The Southwest region serves the following geographical areas: City of Brantford, City of London, City of St. Thomas, City of Stratford, City of Windsor, County of Huron, County of Lambton, County of Oxford, Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Regional Municipality of Waterloo as well as multiple Indigenous Communities.
What can I expect to do in this role?
As a Program Advisor for licensing and compliance, you will:
• Conduct site visits to inspect and assess compliance with legislative requirements and ministry policies
• Identify and address immediate health and safety issues
• Analyze licensing issues, make recommendations for corrective action and best practices to enhance the quality of care where appropriate
• Liaise with agencies and stakeholders
• Follow-up on complaints and serious occurrences and facilitate issues resolution
• Participate in enforcement action, where applicable
• Participate on projects and project committees
How do I qualify?
Mandatory requirement:
• You are able to travel on a regular basis throughout the service area, as required.
Specialized knowledge:
• You have knowledge of principles and practices of child learning and development.
• You have the ability to interpret and apply the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA) and other relevant legislation and regulations to conduct site visits, prepare licensing documentation and make recommendations to the director regarding licensing.
• You understand programming requirements within child care programs.
Program techniques:
• You have knowledge of budgeting processes in order to review agency budgets.
• You have knowledge of programming and services available to families in the community.
• You can assess effectiveness of programs and compliance with accepted practices.
Analytical and problem-solving skills:
• You have the ability to make recommendations on new programs.
• You can assess the services being provided and formulate recommendations.
Communication and computer skills:
• You have effective oral and written communication skills.
• You work well with others and can present information to stakeholders.
• You are proficient in computer software and databases (e.g. email, word-processing, spreadsheet) and have the ability to use portable automated technology to conduct on-site inspections.
