CPRI is an organization, directly operated by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services providing trauma-informed and highly specialized treatment and targeted intervention services for children and youth in Ontario with complex combinations of special needs. These needs include severe behavioural and emotional challenges, developmental disabilities, autism, and mental health. Services are provided through both residential and outpatient interdisciplinary teams.

CPRI website.CPRI is looking for a child and adolescent psychiatrist to work on one of our residential teams along with some outpatient care. This position is full-time and permanent with benefits through the Ontario Public Service (OPS).
Remuneration/BenefitsThe position provides remuneration that is negotiated through collective agreements that exist within the OPS and competitive with similar positions elsewhere. This includes a comprehensive benefits package, 5 weeks paid vacation, 2 weeks educational time, annual financial support for professional fees and educational costs.

What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:
1. Provide Paediatric Psychiatry services to children/youth that are consistent with standard practice and trauma-informed care
2. Provide teaching activities internally or externally within your expertise/interests and consider optional associated responsibilities through Western University (WU) with formal expectations outlined by the Department of Psychiatry and approved by CPRI
3. Support collaborative research initiatives with WU, CPRI and/or the Ministry, ranging from supportive to active involvement
4. Provide assistance to the Medical Director in aspects of governance, policy formation, curriculum planning, program implementation, surveillance and evaluation, as appropriate.
5. Attend relevant meetings and performing relevant administrative functions at CPRI as well as participating in Ministry initiatives
6. Maintain CPRI discipline-specific key performance indicators within clinical services;
7. Ensure documentation, charting and records retention of clinical, diagnostic and treatment information/reports in paper and/or electronic format are consistent with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO), CPRI and Ministry requirements;
Clinical Setting/ApproachResidential care includes a large inter-disciplinary team consisting of psychiatry, psychology, social work, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, paediatrician, nursing, child/youth workers and others. Teams use evidence-informed clinical approaches in supporting children/youth which is individualized and trauma-informed. Length of service is typically up to 12 weeks with a focus on interdisciplinary assessment, strategy development to manage challenging behaviours and medication management as indicated. Outpatient services aim to provide tertiary level consultation / intervention for children/youth to community physician referrants. The provision of psychiatric services can utilize a hybrid model of virtual and in-person care. On call responsibilities are shared amongst the psychiatrists for residential and outpatient services.
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
For this role, you must be a member in good standing with the CPSO, with a valid license to practise medicine in Ontario; and certification (or eligibility) as a specialist in paediatric (child and adolescent) psychiatry and/or certification in psychiatry with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or specialist
standing in another jurisdiction, comparable to this certificate, such as the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Additionally, appropriate medical liability coverage is required.
Specialized Knowledge
• You have specific knowledge and skills regarding all medical theory and practice related to paediatric psychiatry, as outlined in the residency training curriculum for child and adolescent psychiatry by the RCPSC.
• You can assess, diagnose, treat and coordinate professional and technical treatment with staff in the management of young people with complex mental health and/or co-morbid developmental concerns.
• You have knowledge of written legislation and guidelines, such as the Child and Family Services Act (CFSA), Ontario Hospitals Act (OHS), Regulated Health Professionals Act (RHPA), Hospitals Act (where applicable), Ministry directives, facility policies and procedures, and medical ethics.
