Tech Trek Campers Speak Up

On a gorgeously sunny but windy day, September 19, six young women gave impressive speeches and received awards at Villa Mira Monte Historical House. With over sixty persons in attendance, the audience listened as Tech Trek campers spoke of what they learned and told of friendships made. Listeners learned that assembling and programing a robotic device from a box of parts was no small task, especially when it was all accomplished over the virtual platform, Zoom.

Camper Recognition

Eleven of the twelve campers who attended the virtual camp earned the Certificate of Achievement for 15 hours of coding and circuit design and verified via upload of invention video. The box of parts, or kit, was designed by Qualcomm Thinkabit Lab.

Nine of twelve campers earned the Certificate of Completion meeting these requirements: attendance at morning sessions, submission of final video, attendance at all mandatory and two optional workshops, and completion of post survey.

Two campers, Cara Wargocki and Teagan Hensley, earned the “SuperSTEMinists” who EXCEEDED requirements and attended EVERY optional workshop in addition to all the mandatory sessions and the video upload.

Tech Trek Committee

Additionally, our own member, Krisse Boursier, who gave boatloads of her time to two summer camps, received a Coaches Certificate of Completion award.

Our Tech Trek committee members deserve a round of applause…this past spring they persevered through rushed essays reviews and tricky Zoom interviews, many thanks to Janet McElroy, Heather Poore, Margaret McCann, and Donna Dicker.

If you’re interested in being on the Tech Trek committee, 2021-2022, the first meeting is Monday, Nov. 8, 7-8 pm, contact Tech Trek Coordinator Joy Safakish TechTrek@aauwmh.org to RSVP or for information about this committee.
