“I took so much time on this project because I wanted to express my story the best way I possibly could. And I want everyone watching to feel a sense of relatability to the story and imagery being portrayed. I love what I do and for me to share that with you all means more than you may know.” – Dove Nicol joyfully stated

‘Calm Down’ contains a relationship-based narrative, ear-pleasing vocals, and tuneful melodies that will resonate well with fans of Teni The Entertainer, Ria Sean, and Kenah. The hypnotic tune possesses rhythmic instrumentation flavored with Afro-pop, Afro-fusion, and afrobeats elements. Furthermore, “Calm Down” serves as a fantastic introduction to what listeners can expect to hear on Dove Nicol’s upcoming debut EP, which is scheduled for release in mid-November 2021. Also, the song was produced by Lexyz, a producer who Dove attests as one who truly understands her sound and versatility as an artist.

Music is the canvas from which Dove Nicol paints her truth. The young artist grew up in the midst of an 11-year-long civil war; music acted as her safe space, a beacon of solace away from the societal tragedies that plagued Sierra Leone. That, coupled with a spinal injury in her adolescence, set the foundations for a life that seemingly had the odds stacked against her. Despite this, she has maintained a positive attitude to life.

Nicol’s music combines elements of modern Afrobeat with her own African heritage, a genre she dubs Afro-fusion. Her musical taste includes everything from Nina Simone, Christina Aguilera, Yemi Alde, and Angelique Kidjo. Also, Nicol’s music radiates an unmistakable air of spirituality, echoing her turbulent life experiences told from the lens of a vivid storyteller.

Above all, experiences and emotions drive Dove Nicol to create. That, combined with an aim to inspire millions of Africans who are scared of stepping outside of what they know, she is on a mission to set an example for others. Also, Nicol wants to spread the notion that circumstances are merely just obstacles and not permanent limitations.
