Overcharging customers
November 2023 I purchased an elliptical directly from Nordictrack.com. They gave me a price and I explained that I am outside the city limits and the tax rate was too high. I was told it would be adjusted at time of delivery. I paid extra for white glove delivery which included setting it up in a room of my choice. The two men who delivered spoke little English and used an app to convert the instructions to English. They left without testing anything or making sure it connected to the internet. I was told they would test everything. They took all the 'extra' parts with them. The part were not extra! No washers were used but my husband was able to find suitable washers and made the machine usable and stable. When my card was finally charged, it included city tax. I have reached out multiple time trying to get them to refund the extra tax charged but was told they cannot do this as their computer calculates the tax. I informed them that their computer was incorrect and per MN sales tax laws... Retailers must determine the proper sales tax rate applicable to each transaction. A five-digit zip code without a street address is insufficient to determine the proper sales tax rate because 5-digit zip codes often cover multiple jurisdictions. I provided them with the 4 digits after my zip code. I have sent 4 emails with no reply. I have tried calling... nothing. Big company, little people.
