Dynamyte – “Flattery” single

“My momma taught me my manners. You get more with sugar than spice. I don’t have to bend over backwards to say something nice. Thank you (thank you) for everything you do for me. Every little word you speak feels a whole lot like flattery. Thank you (thank you) ’cause every time you hate, honey, it shows how much you think of me. Feels a whole lot like flattery. I don’t want your boyfriend. If I’m being poignant, I don’t even know your last name. But clearly I’m of interest. Since you’re in my business, it’s a shame that you don’t get paid.” – lyrics

‘Flattery’ tells a cheeky tale of a young woman who addresses her haters in a positive way. Apparently, she takes the unpleasant things that people say about her as flattery because haters are the ones spending their free time (working overtime) thinking and talking about her without getting paid to do so. Therefore, she thanks them because whenever they hate on her, their obsession shows that they truly care, even though they won’t admit it.

‘Flattery’ contains a relatable narrative, ear-welcoming vocals, and sugar-sweet melodies. Also, the feel-good tune possesses melodic instrumentation flavored with neo-soul and contemporary R&B elements. Furthermore, “Flattery” fits somewhere in the same sonic ballpark with songs created by Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse.

“The song is about how even hate is flattering. If someone is spending all of their time writing hate about you or talking about you behind your back, they are just obsessed with you. So you should take it as a compliment and laugh it off.” – Dynamyte

With a new year comes new breakout artists. For 2020, one of those exceptional new talents is Dynamyte. The intelligent songstress has been a professional musician for over a decade. So far, she has performed over 300 shows nationwide with her brother (as the musical duo, “Michael & Marisa”). Also, they have toured as the opening act for many Top 40 radio artists including Ariana Grande and Christina Perri.

“My two main musical inspirations growing up were Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen. My music is a bit of a fusion of my favorite elements from these two artists. Amy inspired me to sing and Lily inspired me to write. I’m most inspired by Amy’s vocal because when she sings I feel like I can hear her guts. Her vocal is a strong pang right to the core of genuine raw emotion. Lily has always been a lyrical genius in my eyes, with her witty, intelligent, and very wordy lyrics. There is a cheekiness, but also a mature cleverness in her writing that I’ve been determined to master and replicate since the age of ten.” – Dynamyte stated

‘Flattery’ follows hot on the heels of Dynamyte’s debut single, entitled, “Show Me You”.

“I’m currently 23-years-old and just graduated from Brown University. I studied Sociology with a focus on social interaction and social psychology. I love to analyze human beings and their behaviors (the underlying inspiration behind my lyrics). Also, I use my analyses to make sense of my experiences when writing, while targeting what kind of content I feel the world needs.” – Dynamyte
