Our Impact

Over the past 30 years, artworxLA has served over 15,000 students through our multifaceted arts education program, with over 400 teaching artists leading art-making activities in 50 classrooms and partnerships with nearly 100 cultural institutions.

Partnerships for Good

Every year, we partner with several major cultural institutions across Los Angeles County, along with many higher education partners who offer scholarships to our students for summer programs. We’re proud to announce MOCA Los Angeles and the Autry Museum of the American West as our current Cultural Partners.

Community Engagement

Through collaboration with cultural partners, higher education, and creative industry professionals, we leverage resources to extend to our communities throughout LA County. In addition, many school sites share space and create partnerships with community-based organizations that provide student support services.

“I like seeing us as a community here, especially since we’re not from a traditional school. So I like how, even for kids like us, they still care for us.” — Marleen T., student

Our Sequential Programs

Level 1: Classroom Workshops

artworxLA students participate in two 15-week workshops each year. Professional artists guide students to create art that connects to exhibitions and programs at L.A. museums, theaters and cultural centers. Each 15-week workshop culminates in a trip to the cultural partner institution, where students present their final work.

Level 2: After-school Residencies & Career Skills

Students whose interests are sparked in the Level 1 workshops sign up to participate in After-School Residencies and Creative Career Skills Workshops. While the Level 1 Workshops bring artists into the classroom, the Level 2 After-School Residencies take students out of the classroom and into significant cultural institutions where they receive in-depth exposure to specific disciplines. Simultaneously, students participate in Creative Career Skills Workshops, a weekly leadership program that teaches transferrable life and job skills including resumé-building, interview prep, and money management. At the end of 12 weeks, students get to publicly present their work.

Level 3 & 4: College Prep & Career Prep

Exceptional students who complete After-School Residencies and Creative Career Skills Workshops receive one-on-one support in applying for scholarships to study art in some of the country’s most prestigious summer and weekend arts programs for high school students. artworxLA provides students who receive these scholarships with art supplies, access to technology, and staff support that ensures they successfully complete the programs and are competitive with their peers. Past students have completed courses at ArtCenter, Brentwood Arts Center, Cal Arts, Otis College of Art and Design, Ryman Arts, UCLA, and USC Architecture.

“I came to school today because I knew artworx was going to be here.” — Sarah X., student

I love seeing everyone’s different styles and how they approach the creative challenges we’ve done. I want to find a way to be a bigger part of artworxLA in the future.
