Our Advisory Board

In January 2022 STOP Spillover launched its external advisory board. The board provides STOP Spillover with additional diverse perspectives and insights as we work to prevent future spillovers and pandemics. This group of highly qualified individuals from across the globe and many sectors provides knowledge, critical thinking, and analysis that inform STOP Spillover’s urgent work.

Ashling Mulvaney

Chair of the STOP Spillover External Advisory Board, Chair of the Global Health Security Agenda’s Private Sector Roundtable, and Vice President of Global Sustainability and Access to Healthcare at AstraZeneca
Ms. Mulvaney brings 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. She leads AstraZeneca’s Healthy Heart Africa program, a public health initiative that has conducted over 22 million blood pressure screenings and trained more than 8,200 healthcare workers since its inception in 2014. As Vice President of Global Sustainability and Access to Healthcare at AstraZeneca, Ms. Mulvaney leads one of the three priority pillars of the organization’s sustainability strategy. She holds an M.B.A. from the University of Warwick.

Cara Chrisman

Deputy Division Chief, Emerging Threats Division, Office for Infectious Diseases, Bureau for Global Health at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)
Since 2019 Dr. Chrisman has served as Deputy Division Chief of USAID’s Emerging Threats Division. She is also the USAID Agreement Officer’s Representative (AOR) for STOP Spillover. Dr. Chrisman formerly served as Senior Infectious Diseases Technical Advisor for USAID’s Bureau of Global Health and worked with the Ebola Task Force Secretariat. Her previous research includes developing and evaluating new technologies in limited-resource settings with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Dr. Chrisman is a graduate of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine with a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology.

Dr. Kachen Wongsathapornchai

Regional Manager of the Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific
Dr. Wongsathapornchai is the Regional Manager of the Emergency Centre for Transboundary Animal Diseases in the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. At the FAO, Dr. Wongsathapornchai has coordinated regional emergency response projects for infectious diseases, including H1N1 and avian influenza. He previously worked as a veterinary epidemiologist in Thailand's Department of Livestock Development. Dr. Wongsathapornchai earned a D.V.M. from Chulalongkorn University and a Ph.D. in Veterinary Epidemiology from Colorado State University.

Dr. Bassirou Bonfoh

Director of Afrique One
Dr. Bassirou is a veterinarian and epidemiologist with over 20 years of experience. His previous work includes serving as livestock development program coordinator for Vétérinaires Sans Frontières. Since 2009, he has been Managing Director of the Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques en Côte d’Ivoire. He is a fellow of the African Academy of Sciences and has published 200 peer-reviewed papers. Dr. Bonfoh holds a D.V.M. and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology.

Dr. Jose A. Fernandez

Deputy Director of the Office of Pandemics and Emerging Threats in the Office of Global Affairs at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Dr. Fernandez is Deputy Director of the Office of Pandemics and Emerging Threats in the Office of Global Affairs at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). He leads and manages a broad array of strategy and policy development and health diplomacy efforts and supports a policy portfolio that includes global health security and sustainable financing, including the International Health Regulations and the Global Health Security Agenda; influenza and pandemic preparedness; antimicrobial resistance and One Health; and emerging infectious diseases and response policy. He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Purdue University.

Dr. Ibrahima Soce Fall

Assistant Director-General for Emergency Response at the World Health Organization and United Nations Assistant Secretary General
Dr. Fall, who was trained as a military physician, brings over 25 years of experience in medicine and global public health. He previously served as the Regional Emergencies Director for the World Health Organization (WHO) in Africa. In 2014, Dr. Fall was appointed by the UN Secretary General as the Head of the UN Mission for Ebola Emergency Response. Before joining WHO, Dr. Fall served in numerous public health positions in Senegal. He holds several degrees, including a Master’s in Public Health and doctorates in Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Casey Barton Behravesh

Director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s One Health Office
Dr. Barton Behravesh is Director of the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) One Health Office in the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases and a Captain in the United States Public Health Service. She also serves as head of the Collaborating Centre for Emerging and Re-emerging Zoonotic Diseases for the World Organisation for Animal Health. Dr. Barton Behravesh holds a Master of Science degree in Veterinary Parasitology and a D.V.M. from Texas A&M University and a Doctor of Public Health degree from the University of Texas.

Annika Terrana

Director for Forests and Lead for Forests and Health at the World Wildlife Fund
Ms. Terrana has over 10 years of experience in forest stewardship and conservation. Before joining the World Wildlife Fund, she worked with the Forest Stewardship Council and Organic Health Response on reforestation initiatives in Kenya. Ms. Terrana holds degrees in History, Environmental Studies, and African Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
