A Message from Pastor Laura
|
|
Hello,
I recently heard this statement, which I plan to continue repeating: There are no volunteers in churches. There are only ministers. That’s right, everyone at church is a builder of the “kindom,” the family, of God. Everyone who serves the church is a minister of the church, charged with sharing the “good news” of God’s love in everything we do (from washing dishes to sending caring notes, to approving meeting minutes). Serving the church is different from volunteering elsewhere. We expect serving in church to change us and to transform the world through the creative power of the Holy Spirit.
One might consider opportunities to serve in ministry in the church carefully and with prayer. We might ask ourselves, “Is God calling me to this ministry of maintenance or technology, or social justice?” or “Is God calling me to let go of one role so that someone else can have the chance to grow and serve there?” “Am I noticing a holy nudge in someone else that I might encourage?”
At last week’s (wonderful and successful!) congregational meeting, we approved our 2022 budget and our 2021 Annual Report. We also started the nominations process for church leadership and ministry in the coming year. I invite you to prayerfully consider the following opportunities for ministry at Pilgrim:
- Council Positions: Vice Moderator and At-Large Member
- Nominations Committee members with Kerry Williams and Pastor Laura (short term and great for folks who see others’ gifts and talents).
- Committee Positions on: Social Justice, Christian Education, Worship and Spiritual Life, and Called to Care.
May God bless your ministry at church and in the world,
Pastor Laura
P.S. Sunday is Communion Sunday, so if you are worshiping at home, bring something to eat and drink, and perhaps a candle, to your worship space. In person, we will continue to use the prepackaged Communion elements.

Refugee resettlement Kit Packing Day - 2/19/22
The refugee resettlement kit collection, at Pilgrim, is less than a month away on Saturday, February 19th. With Pilgrim acting as one of the drop-off points. The collection on the 19th is from 9am - 4pm.
The collection kit poster, at Pilgrim, is in the narthex. Each list includes items to create resettlement kits for different parts of the home. Pick up a list or two to be part of this Social Justice project to help resettle Montana’s newest residents. Or get a group of your friends to team up to put a kit or two together.
If shopping is prohibitive, you can alternatively write a donation check to Gallatin Refuge Connection toward the truck rental and other transportation costs, Soft Landings - Missoula or IRC.
Check out this documentary that shows what life is like for African Refugees in Montana.
Pilgrim’s Social Justice Team (Susan Reisch, Glenda Barnes or Marci Young) thanks you so much for your participation.
