A Message from Pastor Laura
|
|
Dear Friends,
Well, we are off and running (walking? shuffling?) with our Lenten worship theme, “Good Enough.” Last week we explored what a “good enough” faith might look like. Mostly, it is full of acceptance and grace. I can get behind that and I bet you can too. We are all imperfect works in progress, and most of us need reassurance often that we don’t need to be perfect or work harder to be worthy of love and acceptance.
In the coming weeks we are going to challenge the pervasive idea that if we are good, polite, smart, well groomed, and work hard, our lives will be healthy, enjoyable, long, and prosperous, AND if our lives go well, it is a sign that God loves us. The world just doesn’t work that way. Neither does God. Goodness is not a zero-sum game. God’s goodness doesn’t stand up to any mathematical equation, actually. Our creation story (one of them, there are two in the bible) tells us: our Creator created the world and said “this is good”--all of it. Even when things don’t go the way we had hoped, we are still good creations. Please write that down somewhere you can see it this week. “I am a good creation” (even when my car is messy, my emails have typos, I hit snooze 18 times, and I snap at my loved ones).
With you on this “good enough” journey,
Pastor Laura

Daylight Savings Time!
Don’t forget to “spring ahead” on Saturday 3/12, so you’ll be on time for church (in person or online) on Sunday. The good news is if you forget and all of your digital devices, which should update automatically, go haywire, you’ll still arrive at church in time for coffee hour with friends who care about you AND you can still watch worship online, anytime.
