Lillian Blue Makin – “Let’s Never Stop Growin’ Up”

“I’m just a kid, but don’t call me that. ‘Cause I’m probably more grown than him. I don’t got student loans or debt. But I live in a house and I pay my own rent. I’m in this indecisive in between, kinda like the way I’m seen. A child with mad responsibilities, enticing thoughts ‘bout what a sinner be. I like to think about God, but not on my knees. I love how I have enough autonomy to just breathe, so watch me breathe. I’m just a kid living in my head tryna make some sense but I don’t make my bed.” – lyrics

‘Let’s Never Stop Growin’ Up’ is an exploration of the juxtaposing euphoric and disappointing natures of growing up. The likable tune travels through Lillian Blue Makin’s thoughts of loving and hating all the responsibilities and decisions that come with being an adult. The song feeds off of Makin’s previously released single, “Cover Under Comfort,” which has amassed nearly one million streams via Spotify.

‘Let’s Never Stop Growin’ Up’ contains a relatable narrative, biographical lyrics, and an ear-pleasing rap flow that will resonate well with fans of Chance The Rapper, Noname, Mac Miller, and Rae Khalil. The laidback tune possesses rhythmic drums and bouncing keyboard-laden instrumentation flavored with hip-hop, contemporary rap, and old-school rap elements. Furthermore, “Let’s Never Stop Growin’ Up” serves as a tasty appetizer to what listeners can expect to hear on Lillian Blue Makin’s debut project, entitled, “Primary Language,” set to be released in Spring 2022.

“‘Let’s Never Stop Growin’ Up’ is about sustaining one’s naive and mature characteristics simultaneously, while tackling the tug of war between adulthood and childhood. It’s about the push and pull of learning how to evolve as a person without losing who you are. And ultimately realizing you can just be. One thing I love about this track is that it is tied melodically and contextually to both the intro and outro of the whole project. It’s something I am really excited for people to hear once the project is released in Spring. For example, the intro takes on quite a naive approach, while ‘Let’s Never Stop Growin’ Up’ is written from more of a learning perspective, specific to the last few years of my life. And finally, the outro incorporates my community as they speak on what it means to them to grow up.” – Lillian Blue Makin explained

Lillian Blue Makin believes the process of growing up is never-ending, and it can be a wondrous experience, rather than a taxing one. Also, “Let’s Never Stop Growin’ Up” is a song that anyone can relate to no matter their age because it explores a universal calling for deliverance from childhood but understanding that the responsibility that follows will have you yearning just the same.

“I’m just a kid but my mom’s the only one that calls me that. And my girl’s the only one that calls me back. These days, it’s a childlike philosophy, oversized autonomy. Don’t know how to act so I chalk it to astrology. And if I’m being real, like if I’m speaking honestly—this album’s a mix of non-fiction and mythology. This is not a biography no, it’s more like a testament to growing up. A little sad but benevolently showing love to the fact that I’ll never stop growing up. ‘Cause, what’s the point if we ever stop growing up? It’s the purpose but it still kinda sucks.” – lyrics
