BETWEEN THE MOUNTAIN AND THE SKY

Maggie Doyne's Memoir: Between the Mountain and the Sky book cover

Between the Mountain and the Sky tells the story of Maggie Doyne’s amazing journey from carefree New Jersey teen to mother figure for over fifty Nepali children by the age of thirty.

Maggie’s memoir turns a hopeful lens on the world and shows us what can happen when a single person takes a decisive action to help another and, in the process, changes the lives of thousands —including her own.

Temple in Nepal

The book begins…

in suburban New Jersey, in a middle-class family that supports Maggie Doyne’s decision to take a gap year before college. During Maggie’s travels, the trajectory of her life changes dramatically when she meets a young Nepali girl breaking rocks in a dry riverbed.

Alongside her co-founder Tope Malla and the local community, Maggie invests her life savings of $5,000 to buy a piece of land and open a children’s home and school in Nepal. This takes her on an emotional journey spanning more than a decade working with women and children.

Maggie and Tope have been recognized around the world for their sustainable community-based work at BlinkNow. However, this book isn’t a how-to guide for philanthropists or nonprofit founders — it’s a coming-of-age story about a young woman suspended between two worlds, as well as the love, loss, healing, and hope she experiences along the way.

Maggie’s inspiring, intimate memoir shows readers an important truth: the power to change the world exists within all of us.

“Where others look upon poverty and injustice and either turn their heads away or shut down in hopeless despair, Maggie gets to work saving lives — one child at a time. She is what I wish I could be — what I wish we all could be. Her story has already inspired countless thousands of people, and it’s time the world had a book about her.”
