Website Christians Against Poverty New Zealand

About CAP

CAP is a not-for-profit organisation working across Aotearoa to bring hope and help to families and whānau who are trapped in debt and poverty.

Every month, CAP receives hundreds of phone calls from New Zealanders who are drowning in unmanageable debt. It consumes more than they have to give; families are forced to sacrifice living essentials to pay their creditors. Our free, professional Debt Help service enables clients to repay their debt using their own income, and work towards a better future. As with all of CAP’s services, Debt Help is delivered in partnership with local churches, allowing clients to receive holistic care as they journey towards the ‘debt free’ finish line.

About this role

CAP is looking for a part-time Management Accountant (three days or 22.5 hours per week) to execute and review all accounting and finance compliance procedures, ensuring the faithful stewardship of financial resources to best accomplish mission impact. This involves completing the month-end process, significant reconciliations, and preparation of all reporting as prescribed by the Finance Director. You will also assist in the organisational-wide budgeting, forecasting and audit processes.

In this role you will also oversee, review and support the Assistant Accountant to execute all employee payments, as well as accounts payable and accounts receivable, including the execution of all IRD related tasks.

About you

As an excellent fit for this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor of Commerce (or equivalent qualification), with at least a minor in Accounting.
  • Three to five years’ experience in a comparable role.
  • Proven ability to communicate financial knowledge and information effectively with internal stakeholders.
  • A strong personal alignment with the foundational Christian philosophy, organisational identity, culture, and values of CAP. You will have the ability to work comfortably in an environment which demonstrates the Christian gospel with stakeholders, shares about Jesus Christ as appropriate, and prays.
  • The ability to work comfortably and well in an NFP organisation that seeks to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi in the way work is done.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, to delve into the detail, and a willingness to work evenings, and weekends – when the work requires it.

Please refer to the Job Description (link found at the application page) for a detailed outline of the role, as well as the skills, abilities, and attributes CAP are looking for.
