The Best Events Around Hull & East Yorkshire This Week | 22 – 28 June 2022

As things begin to cool down, the next few days are the perfect conditions to get out and make the most of Hull. With Yellow Day coming up and The Big Malarkey Festival at the weekend, make sure to mark your calendars. So here are some Top Events in Hull you might want to look out for!

The incredibly interesting Hands-On History Museum opens on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, so consider paying a visit this Saturday. Theatre performances such as Zog And The Flying Doctors and A Tale of Orpheus & Eurydice are great starters for days out with the family, and with a mix of other events such as the Brick by Brick exhibition and Rag’n’Bone Man gig, it’s a good week to be out and about in Hull & East Yorkshire.

Hands-On History Museum (Free Entry)

Saturday 25 June @ The Hands-On History Museum

The Hands-on History Museum, in the old Grammar School where William Wilberforce studied, houses the story of Hull and its people. Hands-on History includes a fascinating glimpse into Victorian times, the Story of Hull and also features the Egyptian Gallery. This gallery is home to a genuine 2,600-year-old mummy and unique replicas of King Tutankhamen’s treasures.

Zog And The Flying Doctors

Wednesday 22 June & Thursday 23 June 2022 @ Hull City Hall

Zog, super keen student turned air-ambulance, still lands with a crash-bang-thump. Together with his Flying Doctor crew, Princess Pearl and Sir Gadabout, they tend to a sunburnt mermaid, a unicorn with one too many horns and a lion with the flu. However, Pearl’s uncle, the King, has other ideas about whether princesses should be doctors, and she’s soon locked up in the castle back in a crown and a silly frilly dress!

With a bit of help from some friends and half a pound of cheese, can Pearl make her uncle better and prove princesses can be doctors too?

Artists Talk: Hannah Gibson (Free)

Friday 24 June 2022 @ Ferens Art Gallery

Hannah’s artwork Whispering Sweet Nothings is on display in the Brick by Brick exhibition. Whilst studying Geology she became fascinated by the mineralogy and reactions between various elements, metals and compounds. This led to her passion for working with glass and using recycled or found materials. Join artist Hannah Gibson to find out more about her artistic practice, her interest in sustainability and recycling, and why she is inspired by LEGO® bricks.

The Gin To My Tonic Festival returns with another nationwide tour for 2022, bringing together over 120+ different craft gins and spirits from across the UK and beyond. A Tale of Orpheus & Eurydice

A joyful 45-minute exploration of love, music, and hope for the future. The Orpheus myth opens with the death of Eurydice, but their story began long before that. Discover the legend of the original star-crossed lovers in this pop-up musical experience. Performers from South Asian and Western musical traditions imagine a prequel to Monteverdi’s opera. A perfect introduction to this timeless myth, and opera itself, for audiences of all ages.

Blooming Yellow Day 2022

‘Yellow Day’ was a project that rolled out across Hull, by Preston Likely with the help of countless people from all corners of the aforementioned city in 2017. This year’s theme is ‘Blooming Yellow Day’ with yellow flowers in abundance! The day itself was created to help people from Hull to celebrate their love of their city, and its fascinating history, by means of wearing or creating something yellow.

The Big Malarkey

The Big Malarkey Festival returns to East Park on 25 and 26 June with a fifth helping of family fun to celebrate children’s books and stories. This year’s festival theme is What’s the Story? with a diverse programme exploring stories from history, music, science, and dance plus well-loved classics – pure Malarkey fun!

Rag’n’Bone Man

Monday 27 June 2022 @ Bridlington Spa

Neo-blues & soul singer Rory Graham, aka Rag’n’Bone Man, is an English singer-songwriter known for his distinctive baritone voice. Having won the 2017 BRIT’s ‘British Breakthrough Act’ and receiving the BRIT’s Critics’ Choice Award in the same year, Rag’n’Bone Man cemented his success with the record-breaking release of his 4 x platinum No. 1 album Human and a further BRIT Award for ‘British Single’ for the title track (Human) in 2018. The album has been recognised internationally, earning Rory sell-out tours and festival appearances around the globe. Subsequent side-projects include the monster hit collaboration track ‘Giant’ with Calvin Harris.
