New in PJ Media:
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-D), who believes that there was a Jan. 6 “insurrection” and that he has a chance to be president of the United States, is outraged at statements Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) made Sunday about the separation of church and state. On Wednesday, Kinzinger raged semi-coherently on Twitter: “There is no difference between this and the Taliban. We must opposed [sic] the Christian Taliban. I say this as a Christian.” The Christian Taliban! Did Boebert call for the beheading of unbelievers? The firebombing of girls’ schools? Throwing gays off the top of tall buildings? Not quite.
What Boebert did say was certainly controversial. Speaking at the Cornerstone Christian Center in Basalt, Colo., Boebert declared: “I’m tired of this separation of church and state junk — that’s not in the constitution. It was in a stinking letter and it means nothing like they say it does.” The “stinking letter” in question was one Thomas Jefferson wrote in 1802 that spoke of a “wall of separation between Church and State.” As commonly used as the “wall of separation” phrase is, it doesn’t appear in the Constitution, which says only that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”
This means that there is to be no established, that is, government-supported, religion in the U.S. or government favoring of one religion over another. It does not mean, as it has often been taken these days, that religion is to have no place in public life, while drag queens cavort in elementary schools right after gender transition class.
Boebert, however, went even farther, asserting: “The church is supposed to direct the government. The government is not supposed to direct the church. That is not how our founding fathers intended it.” Many of the Founding Fathers would strongly object to the idea that “the church is supposed to direct the government,” but Boebert was likely trying to articulate the principle that the government should be informed by religious values, as John Adams stated: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Nonetheless, there is no doubt that she stated her point clumsily, in a way that left open a big target for the likes of Kinzinger.
In taking aim, however, Kinzinger revealed both his prejudices and his ignorance. The Taliban, after all, is a terrorist group. Given the fact that the Biden “Justice” Department has likened angry parents at school board meetings to terrorists, it’s not surprising that the RINO congressman would imply that Boebert is a terrorist, but in doing so he revealed that, despite professing Christianity, he knows little about both Christianity and the Taliban.

However unartful and telegraphic, Boebart and Kinzinger managed to articulate a debate about the role of religion in our country. Christianity in all its denominations is professed by 65% of Americans according to a 2020 Pew survey. I am comfortable with that. Jews are 1% and Muslims are 1%.
Separation of church and state, at least institutionally, has been part of Christian tradition since its beginnings as a minority religion in the Roman Empire. The Founders of the United States, no doubt mindful of the religious diversity of the original states and the recent European religious wars of the 17th century, took that Separation a step further with the 1st Amendment to the Constitution. I think that Boebart the natural warrior is artificially introducing more conflict into a system already laden with cultural conflict.

She may not be the best person to “articulate” the ideas she was presenting, but one must admit that L. Boebert is unafraid of speaking her mind. And her track is much straighter than the idiot and liar, kinzinger.
I have serious doubts about kinzinger’s claim to being Christian. I don’t believe he knows what it means to be Christian. He certainly hasn’t demonstrated any knowledge of Christ.
And, once again, I appreciate the quote from Adams: he said a mouthful
‘John Adams stated: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
so many people in this day wish to deny any religious basis for America’s founding. And a large proportion of those have no “moral” part to their character. Those ones have given the proof to the words of Mr. John Adams.

kinzinger has, evidently, stated he is not running for reelection. mozlums would most likely decide not to vote for him if he did run. After all, he compared their lovely taliban to the enemy of all mozlums, the hated Christians.

Leftards believe there was an “insurrection” by unarmed patriots on 1/6/21, and Good Christian Conservatives believe evil wimmins are hacking up babies on delivery room floors accompanied by satanic rituals.
I’m probably staying home this November. Voting for crazy people has never been a wise policy.

I know many Christian conservatives, a very plentiful amount, including my own sister (and remember, I am an agnostic), and not one of them thinks what you asserted about them. As for Leftists thinking that January 6th was an insurrection, even though it was not, here I am in agreement with you. I think there is a reason for all of this and that is that Christian conservatives en masse have not lost their collective mind but Leftists speaking in the aggregate have. So, we half agree here.

I’m perfectly fine with leaving religion out of the whole abortion debate. Just define for us scientifically when a human being becomes a human being. After that has been decided then decide as to when a human being qualifies for protection under the laws of the United States. Finally, write and pass a law. Do as we’ve been told to do so many times over the past few years. Follow the science. It’s not a question of writing abortion into the law. It’s a question of setting the point at which human life begins and then setting a point at which protection under the law begins. No religion is required to do any of that.

It’s just as well that he’s not running again: he’s totally lost it
I’ve lived in this country as a Hindu for now 30 years, and never had any issues over religion. It’s safe to say that it would have been another story altogether had I lived in Afghanistan – be it during the Taliban or the last 20 years under Hamid Karzai
Kinzinger should be absolutely ashamed of comparing the US to Afghanistan when it comes to religious freedom! In fact, he should be sent to Afghanistan and traded for any number of Americans still trapped there

Kinzinger is a traitor and he should be send to a muslim country He betrayed the US so he has no right ti live there

There is something terribly wrong with Adam Kinzinger. I think he needs help. At the very least, he needs much more accurate information.

You say that as an idiot, Kinzinger. I’ll tell you to your face AND prove you wrong.
