Smart monitoring for water preservation in industrial processes
In Smart Monitoring, the use of advanced analytics, artificial intelligence and advanced sensors allows the use of smart agents to control the different parts of a complex industrial process.
Inside the intelWATT project, the main objectives are water preservation combined with energy production and materials recovery in energy intensive industries. To reach those objectives, the project uses smart agents and integrated dashboards for the different steps in the processes, aiming to balance performance with energy consumption.
The smart agents are being developed using reinforcement learning, an Artificial Intelligence technique that allows them to learn continuously “on the job”. Data from the plants will be gathered using advanced sensor integration with mobile capabilities and a real time data integration platform.
First, the smart agents will provide control indications, in the form of suggestions or hints that will be displayed in the smart dashboards for the unit operator(s). Later, as their output improves with recursive training, these smart agents can provide direct control instructions to the plants.
Agents will be trained using the plant data and cloud computing infrastructure that allows for fast training cycles. Once trained and validated, the agents will be deployed continuously to the plants to be integrated with the on-premises processes and controllers.
