Fuquay-Varina has a rich history with professional baseball, especially for what was once a very small Town. The history dates back over a century, and includes athletes such as Bill Holland, who played professional baseball after his successful days at ECU, where he would later make the school's Hall of Fame.
In modern history, athletes have returned to Fuquay-Varina after their professional baseball days were complete. For example, Harris Honeycutt, who played for the Cincinnati Reds organization, returned home to start a business in the insurance industry. Caleb Mangum played for the Phillies organization after NC State, and later worked with the Town for years and in private industry. Jeremy Cotten was drafted in the second round by the Pirates, and when an injury cut his professional baseball career short, he became an attorney, and has worked for many years in downtown Fuquay. Kevin Brandt won many accolades while playing for ECU, and then was later drafted by the Devil Rays.
Fuquay-Varina has two current professional baseball players that I'm aware of, DJ Burt for the White Sox organization and Brett Daniels for the Cleveland Guardian organization. Jackson Humphries may become the next local professional baseball player after next week's MLB draft. As you can see, our Town has a rich professional baseball history!
