The Town of Fuquay-Varina is proposing to widen Sunset Lake Road from US 401 (N. Main Street) to Products Road. The proposed project would include the construction of the following new dedicated lanes:

The Town of Fuquay-Varina is proposing to widen Sunset Lake Road from US 401 (N. Main Street) to Products Road. The proposed project would include the construction of the following new dedicated lanes:
» A second northbound through lane from US 401 to Products Road
» A northbound right-turn lane from US 401 onto Products Road
» A second southbound through lane from Products Road to south of E. Broad St.
» Extending the dual southbound left-turn lanes from Sunset Lake Road onto US 401 to provide more storage for vehicles
» A southbound right-turn lane into shopping center north of E. Broad St.
Additional improvements include constructing a sidewalk along the east side of Sunset Lake Road for the length of the project, as well as extending sidewalk connections on the west side of Sunset Lake Road to tie into existing infrastructure. Traffic will be maintained in the existing corridor during construction.
The Town has secured approximately $1.3 Million in federal funding for design and construction through the Metropolitan Transportation Planning’s Locally Administered Projects Program. The total project cost is $1.64 Million and the remaining $328,000 will be Town-funded. Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2022.
