Fuquay-Varina's James Mountford named Athletic Director of the Year at HighSchoolOT Honors

Fuquay-Varina athletic director James Mountford has won the 2022 Athletic Director of the Year award at HighSchoolOT Honors.

After the Bengals spent time at Willow Spring High School prior to its opening and while its own campus was being renovated, Mountford led the charge as the Bengals returned home, and success in several sports followed.

Mountford has been the athletic director at Fuquay-Varina since 2012, having served before that as the head coach of the boys and girls soccer programs.

The baseball and softball programs both just wrapped up outstanding seasons this spring. The baseball team, which won the 2021 4A championship, lost in the Eastern regional final in three games to Pinecrest.

The softball team also made it all the way to the regional championship series before losing to D.H. Conley.

The football team went 7-4, finished second in the Greater Neuse River conference and made the playoffs.

The boys soccer and basketball teams also produced winning seasons, finished in the top half of the conference and qualified for the 4A playoffs.
