For Readers & Writers

It's that day. The day of the Great Cover Reveal for Truthwitch.

First, though, I want to ask that you guys to try not to share -- at least for a few days. :) Like, only my awesome Misfits & Daydreamers should be "in the know," right? You all put up with my incessant ramblings each week, and you should definitely be rewarded for that.

So...maybe don't share the cover for a day or two? If you can resist?

Now, let's get down to brass tacks -- the reason you're HERE. There's lots of extra stuff below (giveaway winner! cover details! release date change!), but I won't make you wait a second longer. ;)

Cover, Cover, coverrrrrrr!

On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a “witchery,” a magical skill that sets them apart from others.

In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all too well.

Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It’s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.

Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her—but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safi’s hotheaded impulsiveness.

Safi and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and ship’s captain) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

I want to point out a few really cool details that are just plain perfection on this cover. The design team went above and beyond on this baby, and I could not have asked for anything more beautiful. Seriously.

First off: the model is actually holding the same weapons the Truthwitch uses in the book! How COOL is that? A sword + parrying knife -- that's Safi's go-to fighting combo.

Second off, that ship on the right edge -- oh my gosh, I LOVE that ship.
It's PERFECT for the book since the girls spend a good chunk of story-time at sea, facing monsters and enemy navies and...handsome ship's captains. ;)

Originally, the boat was more visible, but the design team (wisely) decided to blur it out a bit -- just to ensure the focus stayed on the model. But seriously, look at that GLORIOUS ship!! Every time I see it, "El Dorado" (the song that I listened to nonstop while I was writing this book) starts playing in my head...

Finally, I want to point out the incredible blurb from Sarah.

Y'all know Sarah is my best friend--like, BFF to the grave and beyond. I wrote Truthwitch because I wanted to write about a friendship as powerful ours -- one that was epic and transformative and unbreakable.

Safi and Iseult are Threadsisters -- the closest non-romantic bond anyone can share in their world -- and that's what Sarah and I are too.

Plus, Sarah is my critique partner. She was the first person to read Truthwitch -- and the first person to tell me this story was the one I needed to share with the world. I can't ever possibly thank her enough for all she's done for me...Heck, the closest I can get to saying "thank you" is writing a book about friends as epic as we are. ;)

So, you can probably understand why having Sarah's AMAZING quote on the front of this book couldn't be more perfect. (Love you, Sadie, till we're nothing but dust.)

Here's the full quote she wrote up for Truthwitch:

“Make room on your all-time favorites shelf: Truthwitch is an instant new classic. It reminded me of why I started reading fantasy in the first place: its fierce and vibrant world, richly-drawn characters, and dazzling intrigue harkens to the best of Megan Whalen Turner, Robin Hobb, and Jacqueline Carey. And while it pays homage to the epic fantasies that have come before it, it also lays the foundation for a bright new chapter in the genre. I haven’t been so enthralled and inspired by a book since I first read Lloyd Alexander’s The Book of Three. Do not miss out!”

-Sarah J. Maas,
New York Times bestselling author of the Throne of Glass series

Needless to say, when she emailed me that, I cried a thousand tears.

MOVING ON, let's name our WINNER for the very first giveaway of Truthwitch everrrrr...

Natasha M.!!
(I'll email you!)

If you DIDN'T win, don't worry. Sarah is still running her twitter giveaway (eeeee!). Plus, in May we'll have advanced reader copies (ARCs), and the sign-up form for ARCs is still live. :)

Now I have to mention the slightly bad news (which I'm clearly trying to sandwich within lots of GOOD in hopes that no one gets too mad at me): Truthwitch is releasing in January 2016.

In the end, it's only ~2 months later than originally planned, but waiting sucks. I'm sorry for it (trust me, no one is more disappointed than I). :(

BUT, I will do SO MANY GIVEAWAYS between now and then to try to compensate.

And NOW, since I have rambled on long enough, I will wrap up this cover reveal with a huge, huge, HUGE THANK YOU.

Honestly, I cannot possibly express my gratitude to all you Misfits & Daydreamers. You subscribe, you read, you message, you spread the word. It's incredible how much you guys do for me, and I only hope that I can pay you back even a tiny smidgen in this newsletter.

Okay, and since I can't resist, I'll end with this beautimous thumbnail. (It's all about the thumbnails in this world of online book buying!)
