Passed away on August 5, 2022 at the age of 91. Predeceased by his wife Judith Raymond Beyer; sister & brother-in-law Beverlyn (Theodore) Summers; brother-in-law Ed Beutner. Survived by his 2 sons and their families, Steven (Eleni) Beyer and Gary (Elisabeth) Beyer; 6 grandchildren, Gregory, James (Erin), & Anastasia Beyer, and Rebecca, Kurt (Rachel), and William Beyer; 2 step-grandchildren, Max and Andrew Rosenberg and 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Brenda (Richard) Dansingburg & Betsy Jo Beyer. Barry was a loving and caring husband, father, and brother. His career as an educator spanned over 40 years from a high school history teacher to a professor of education and history at the University of Rochester, The Ohio State University, and Carnegie-Mellon University. Before retiring he established and ran the Doctor of Arts in Education program at George Mason University. Throughout his career he co-authored several social studies and history textbooks including the hugely popular social studies series Adventures in Time and Place. He also wrote numerous professional books and articles related to teaching critical thinking skills. Services will be held privately for the family.
