The English Gent Romances #3

The Romance Rehearsal

Rate this book
If the first time was a rehearsal, is this the real thing?

Directing a play in London’s West End was an ambition met, only it meant I’d see the boy who was my first everything for the first time since that summer.

Anthony was no boy anymore. He was all man. Charismatic, talented, famous and devastatingly handsome, and now staring in my production.

My leading man - on stage, at least.

He wanted to be my leading man off stage too.

But we’re not kids anymore, and my heart doesn’t think this is a rehearsal. Like all good love stories, the course isn’t going to run smooth, not when he’s carrying a secret that could destroy everything, including my heart – and his.

Was that summer romance a rehearsal for heart break, or a rehearsal for the real thing?

Maven's first and only love is coming back, and she's the one that has to direct the play he's in. No one since Anthony has ever measured up to him and the summer they spent together falling in love. Will their still very much there feelings give them a second chance, or is the secret Anthony's hiding going to be the ultimate obstacle?

Anthony's family life is uh complicated. He has a brother whose behavior affects Anthony is less than brotherly ways. He has ties to them that will never let him have the life he wants with the woman he loves. Will she forgive him and stand by him when his secret comes out?

I love this sweet, sexy second chance love story. Maven is awesome - independent and strong with a loving heart. Anthony is so sweet and hasn't gotten over that summer anymore than Maven has. Their chemistry is simply delicious, and the world it's set in - London's theater district, just made me all the more eager to finally travel there to explore part of my own heritage.

Suddenly finding yourself promoted from assistant director to director in a London theatre could be overwhelming enough. But when the leading man is also the boy you never quite got over twelve years ago? That's going to add an interesting angle to the experience.

It's probably obvious from my review history that I'm a fan of Annie Dyer's writing. She creates realistic characters who say and do believable things, and this book is no exception: I can almost hear the characters saying the dialogue. There's also a refreshing lack of manufactured drama: Maven and Anthony didn't have a tumultuous breakup and become mortal enemies, but went their separate ways due to entirely valid life decisions. When they come back together, the shared chemistry is unmistakable and full of heat. The world around them, populated with family and theatre colleagues and framed by the production of the play, is deftly drawn and rich with detail... and we are given some surprising and intriguing hints of what's coming next in this series, which I am definitely here for!

The Romance Rehearsal
Annie Dyer
Maven Green a theatre director who moved back to a city she loved to be closer to family. She is passionate, strong and witty. He is charismatic and honourable. Anthony her newest leading man on stage and a blast of summers past. With 12 years to make up for sparks fly.
An epic love story where life imitates art. Solid, mature characters who live life to the fullest. Set mostly in the theatre district of London where locations are richly woven into the story.
This book has nods to Ms Dyers much adored characters in the Callaghan- Green series but can be read as a stand-alone novel with hea.
I received an arc of this book.

Annie Dyer takes readers into the theater world with the Romance Rehearsal.

It was so much fun following Maven as she achieved a dream of being a director of a play on London's West End. Getting to be the new director brings Anthony back into her life. The two of them had a short relationship during a theater program years ago, but the chemistry and connection they shared never really died.

This was such an engaging and entertaining read. I loved getting to see behind the scenes of their play and how Maven and Anthony both loved theater so much. It was wonderful seeing them find their HEA after all these years.

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

The Romance Rehearsal by Annie Dyer, book three in The English Gent series, is a must read for theater lovers everywhere. Suddenly finding yourself promoted from assistant director to director in a London theatre could be overwhelming enough. Finding out the leading man is the boy you never quite got over twelve years ago is definitely going to add an interesting angle to the experience.

Maven Green a theatre director who moved back to a city she loved to be closer to family. She is passionate, strong and witty. During the summer before college, she fell in love with a boy who shared her love for the theater, She knew they only had the summer, but even years after they said goodbye, no one ever really measured up to Anthony. Anthony Dewhurst was born to a titled English family, and while he loves his family, he wanted to follow his passion, not run his family estate. He chose to follow his acting dream. He is charismatic and honorable. Almost a decade later fate pushed them together again. Maven was a successful producer and Anthony was a successful actor. When he is cast in her new production, the passion that they once shared is still there, with sparks flying. While Maven never pictured herself as settling down, she realizes that no one could capture her heart except Anthony. When she dares to show her vulnerability, he pulls back. Anthony realizes that Maven is worth giving up everything, but thanks to the deal with his brother, he may never have what he truly wants most.

Ms. Dyer has created a wonderful story of life imitating art with characters full of depth and layers.
This tale is rich with magnetic attraction, off the charts chemistry, clever banter, and charming characters chasing after a second chance for a forever love. I enjoyed and highly recommend The Romance Rehearsal is to other readers.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

This is book three in the English Gents series, but it can be read as a standalone and ends with a HEA. It is written in first person from an alternating dual POV.
This story follows Maven Green, who was recently promoted from assistant director to director of a stage production in London’s West End. As she deals with the challenges that promotion presents, she faces another with her leading man. That man, Anthony, was her summer love before college. He is also the one she never got over. Twelve years have passed, but their chemistry still burns bright.
Anthony is an actor on stage and TV. He is the oldest son of a Viscount and has some family drama he needs to attend to. He finds himself falling for the woman in the present who was the girl from his past: his first love. Anthony has some things to get through to get his HEA. I love the friendship he and Maven share and I adore the chemistry between them.
Second chance books are not always my favorite, but I found this love story very sweet. I appreciated that when they split in their youth it was without drama and that it was a summer love fling that had an expiration date as they moved onto the next stage in their lives. They needed to be more mature to move forward with the love they both still feel as adults. There are flashbacks from both POV to their summer fling as well as accounts of events in the present. I loved how beautifully those are arranged and tie the story together in a cohesive way. This was a wonderful read and I recommend it.

I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is Maven Green's story, and it takes place in London where Maven has moved to be with her family. As the story opens, she has been promoted to director of a play and she has to decide who the shows leading man will be. One of the choices is Anthony who was her fling 13 years before when she was 18 and he was 21.

This is a second chance romance, and the author sends us back 13 years in the past throughout the story so we can see what happened that long ago summers when Maven and Anthony were together at a drama camp program and fell for each other.

This was a wonderful second chance romcom story with lots of theatre fun and some more serious things. In addition, we learn about Anthony's extremely complicated family situation as he ran away to the theatre many years ago and has issues with his younger brother.

This was a fast-paced story and a light read that I really enjoyed. The life of a director and on the stage in England was a really different story for me but I also really enjoyed it. There is a wide range of quirky characters that made this book amusing and very entertaining.

If you love second chance romances and life in the theatre, then you will love this lighthearted romance.

I was lucky enough to receive an arc of this book .

I want to give it more than 5*.

Absolutely love Maven & Anthony’s story ….. Anthony with the ‘th’ sound & not the ‘ t’ sound , lol.

This is truly a love story , a love that has never faded , even though they were not in each other’s lives for 12 years , no one else came close .

Both come from amazing, much loved families , although Anthony’s brother ‘ Will ‘ has issues , & would test the saintiest of saints .

True love never runs smooth, but true love isn’t a quitter.

This is a must read

A must read for theater lovers everyone. I love this once-lost-and-found-again love story. I love that the main characters stay true to our beloved Green family and Callaghan family series’ men and women; and we get more of all of them in each and every book. It’s like being part of another family. Even if this is your first Annie Dyer book, you will fall in love and quickly make this extended family one of your own.
Maven is our strong and sassy heroine. She fell in love with a boy with the same love of the theater, during the summer before college (university). She knew they only had the summer, but even years after they said goodbye, no one ever really measured up to Anthony. Anthony was born to a titled English family. Old money and expectations. While he loves his family, he wanted to follow his passion, not run his family estate. He chose to follow his acting dream. Almost a decade later fate pushed them together again. Maven was a successful producer and Anthony was a successful actor. When he is cast in her new production, the passion that they once shared is easily re-ignited. While Maven never pictured herself as settling down, she realizes that no one could capture her heart except Anthony. When she dares to show her vulnerability, he pulls back. Anthony realizes that Maven is worth giving up everything, but thanks to the deal with his brother, he may never have what he truly wants most.
Annie Dyer always delivers the best and most passionate happily ever after to her reader, but I can’t tell you anymore, you’ll have to find out what happens to Anthony and Maven for yourself!

I’ve enjoyed more than my fair share of gin with Maven and friends and I’ve enjoyed every sip and the company I’ve been keeping is brilliant !

I first meet Maven getting a decent dose of caffeine and she’s assistant director at the emperor theatre group then she gets an unexpected promotion and one of the lead auditions for her current production is none other than Anthony , her Anthony from 12 years ago ❣️, her Anthony that was her first love love , her first everything , the reason she’s single , while she’s not pining away no man has ever measured up to Anthony …..

Anthony was next in line to be viscount , his heart however laid in the arts and theatre and he pursued that path despite the fact and he’s done pretty well for himself and what made him real to me was that despite his success he still got nervous for auditions 🥰

So after their summer romance 12 years ago neither really moved on as they were still hung up on each other and they’re focusing on their careers , yes their were flings but nothing with substance and what a pleasure it’s been to watch them rekindle that love and romance ❣️ it’s been so much fun !

Anthony and Maven stole my heart but there’s a special place I reserved for Elaine and Gina , 2 characters I’d love to hang out with , enjoy coffee and just absorb their wisdom and life experience 🥰

This read really deserves every encore it gets ❣️📕

Absolutely loved this story!

"His smile was still the same. My reaction to him was still the same. Wrecked. I was wrecked by him again."

Maven Green and Anthony Dewhurst met over a decade ago during a theatre summer camp. They fell in love but when summer ended, they went their separate ways. Now, they are once again face to face for the first time since then and working together - and the explosive chemistry that was always between them is still very much there. Unfortunately, now that they're older, the path to their HEA is still not particularly straightforward.

"She was every award, every good review, every round of applause. I was a fool for not knowing it before, but I knew it now."

OMG! The chemistry between Maven and Anthony was electric! They were inevitable and inexorable. This story was just the right mix of plot and sexiness. The two main characters had a very intense carnal connection, but there was still a solid storyline to follow. I loved how honest they were with one another. Anthony didn't mince his words at wanting to be with Maven again. It was almost compulsive. Maven was a wonderful heroine - smart, sexy, and capable. This was a wonderful, absorbing and addictive read. Looking forward to the next book from this fabulous author.

Maven fell in love with a boy one summer before college, who held the same love for the theater that she does, but their timing was off, and she hasn't seen him for over a decade. Over the years, no one has ever come close to measuring up to Anthony, so she's not found anyone to spend her life with. Anthony was born into an English family with titles, and old money, so as you can imagine, him doing what he loved wasn't going to be easy whatsoever, not to mention, it really wouldn't matter who he fell in love with either because there are heavy expectations. These days, Maven is a theater director who moved back to be close to her family, and it just so happens, her newest job has brought Anthony back into her life as her new leading man. It's funny, the connection they developed so long ago is still there like no time has passed, so now, they just may have a shot at the future they should have had all along but it won't be easy, and I can't tell you why. The moment I picked this book up, I couldn't put it down until I devoured every last page, and I believe you'll have the same experience after you hit those one-click buttons! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

There are so many amazing things I could say about this book. I'm always in shock how easily Annie Dyer's book top the previous ones each and every time. Everytime I read a new book they fight hard for the top of my favorites list and while two have a strong hold, this one is easily one of my favorites.

Anthony and Maven have a beautiful story. I adored the balance between their younger years and the present. All of the present and the past connected so well and only added to the story.

Anthony has a lot of family issues he is working through from a promise made during college. That promise causes a lot of issues between Anthony and Maven and Anthony and his family. When it comes down to it and Anthony has a choice to make, who does he choose? His family or Maven?

I also loved the glimpse into Shay's book and I haven't been this excited for a character's book since Seph so there is that and I cannot wait.

This is Maven Green and Anthony ‘s story. It’s a second chance romance! Oh! It was so much fun!! They knew each other when they were young, but knew they had an expiration date because of how young they were and their circumstances. Over the years they successfully avoided each other despite working in the same industry until they have to work together again. It seems they pick things up where they left them 12 years ago, but this time around there are tons of complications… until they finally get their HEA.

It’s always fun to read about the Callaghan- Greens, as they are such a fun family to be around. I love to hear about them a little in these stories and now I want to know all about Shay. This book was wonderful and just what I needed to read at this time. Thanks Annie Dyer, you never disappoint!

The Romance Rehearsal was such a fun, emotional, steamy, and with just enough drama read! I devoured this book. Maven is finally directing her own show and the past roles in for the male lead. Anthony wants the part and can’t believe fate has brought Maven back into his life. He came ignore the old connection and chemistry, meanwhile Maven is all business and doesn’t want to put her heart on the line. These two had a summer fling and haven’t seen each other until now and from that moment you will be hooked and devouring this story to see what will happen between these two. Maven and Anthony have an undeniable connection and dance around each other like a performance, but fate keeps throwing them together. I couldn’t get enough of these two. I loved this Tory of second chances and Anthony will have you swooning after him.

Another amazing story by Annie Dyer. I’ve been anxiously awaiting Maven’s story and it way exceeded my imagination.
This is a captivating second chance romance, our protagonists had a summer fling over a decade ago when they were very young adults at a theater summer camp.
Anthony is a successful actor, both TV and theater, auditioning for a play to fill in during a break from filming TV series.
Maven, to her great shock and excitement, is tasked with directing the play Anthony is auditioning for.
They are both in their dream careers, will they be able to revisit and reexamine the feelings from long ago? The feelings that never really went away?
I enjoyed appearances by my Callaghan-Green clan favorites throughout this entertaining book and would definitely recommend it to all romcom enthusiasts!

Can first love be true love? Well that’s why you have to read the book!

Aside from a steamy story we get to delve behind the curtain (pun intended). We see the people besides their characters and see the complexities and possibly the why of why people want to go off and be someone else.

It can definitely be true that the course of true love never runs smooth. However, if you’ve never been in love how do you really know if it’s love?

This is a story where the secondary characters are as important as the main characters. Anthony and Maven captured my heart but Shay, Will and Thea kept me riveted to the book.

This is a standalone but you will definitely want to read the others in this series.
I can’t wait for the next book!

Maven and Anthony were spectacular!
Second Chance romance at its best! Anthony was just delicious! He has a bit of everything going! He's a gentleman, is charismatic and if there was an Olivier award for dirty talking he would be the clear winner! Maven was amazing! She knows her own self worth but when she unexpectedly gets promoted to director overnight she didn't expect to come face to face with her first love.......but either did he and from the very first moment they met again the sparks were flying!

I loved the little teases that this author dotted about and I have so many questions! But my one big question is........when's Shay's book?

The Romance Rehearsal was so incredibly cute and hot all mixed together.

Maven and Anthony first meet during a summer theater program and have a summer "fling". They don't meet again until 12 years later when they try to rekindle that romance while being met with obstacles they have to overcome.

I loved Maven and Anthony! They are an adorable couple that have the best chemistry. I loved how not only those two characters are brought to life but also the side characters. I found myself begging to know more about Thea and even Will.

It definitely hits the 5/5 ⭐️ mark for me, if I could give 10 it would be an 11. The spice was amazing, just enough to not overwhelm the plot.

This is the 3rd book in this intriguing series, and this is Anthony and Maven’s story. Maven fell in love with a boy who loved the theatre as she did, and now 12-years later these two cross paths again, and he is not a boy any longer. Maven is strong and sassy, and she is directing her 1st play in London’s West End, while Anthony is talented, famous, handsome, and the leading man in the play. This is a well written story which has secrets, intrigue, 2nd chances, emotions, tension, family, friendships, and love, which leads to an entertaining page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Maven and Anthony are a match made in theatrical heaven. Maven found herself thrust into the role of director for a new play and her first love Anthony was cast as the leading man. Over the past 12 years they have done a great job of avoiding each other which considering they work in the same field was a miracle. Now however they are forced to work with each other and relive the past. I loved how they were able to pick up where they left off and it's always fun to revisit with the Callaghan/Green family.

I fell in love with this story for many reasons, first Anthony and Maven are 10 star characters! both written with such depth and care that you can't help but love both of them at the very beginning - insta love if you will! Secondly I loved the setting in London's West End Theater world, it felt magical and big but not big city big if you know what I'm talking about. I loved Maven's take charge attitude and how she never really let people take advantage of her. Anthony was just the right amount of leading man and humor that just made this book a joy to read!

A lovely read with so many feelings involved.

Maven is a director in a theatre and she has to cast a leading man, one of the actors she hasn’t seen for 12 years, and knows that when she does her heart might not be able to cope!

Anthony is a famous actor and knows that he is seeing the one woman that his heart has never forgotten for the first time in over a decade, he has been keeping an on her online to keep up to date on her career.

Will working together again be their second chance at a happily ever after, or are they destined never to be together again!

A second chance like never before!

Maven and Anthony had one magical summer together. They knew it would come to an end and they would be forced to go their separate ways. That didn't mean that they ever stopped thinking of each other. Or that their connection was ever lost. Once they are thrown back together the sparks fly. And they finally have the chance they needed before if they are willing to take it.

I loved this. One of my top reads of 2022. So much steaminess. So much family drama. So, so good!

It was more than a summer fling.

Maven and Anthony meet again after 12 years of their summer fling. And their chemistry is still off the charts. You almost felt like you were part of the production for the play they were both working on. Anthony has a lot of family drama with his brother Will that will leave you wondering if there is any hope for them. We even get loads of clues about Shays love interest. You will need to read it for yourself to find out. But you won't be disappointed.

What a great story! Annie has once again created characters full of depth and layers. This is a second chance romance starring a director and her leading man. There are lovely snippets from their teenage romance which enhances your interest in their current relationship. There is plenty of drama, both on and off stage, which will keep you wanting to read 'just one more chapter!'

I received a free ARC of this book in return for my honest review.

The story of Maven and Anthony is a good and relatable one. You meet the person you connect with on so many levels, but the timing is wrong, you're too young, you've got big things happening in your life, and you just realize that you must go your separate ways....always left wondering and wishing for that bright star to return. However, the Easter eggs about Maven's brother...the elusive Shay are top shelf, and Annie does an incredible job of setting us up in anticipation for the next episode.

I loved Maven and Anthony! This is a very strong series, without a bad one in the lineup. I’m not always a fan of the second chance trope, but I really enjoyed this one.
Fate has thrown them together again after years apart. There’s also a twisty curve in the road that I hadn’t expected. Read it and find out what it is.

This book is about Maven and Anthony ‘s second chance at their HEA. It's really nice to see how Maven and Anthony's story started years ago. I also loved seeing how they started to build their relationship once again. I really enjoyed going through their love journey with them and seeing them get their HEA, and I can't wait to see more of them in the future books.
