Hi friends,
I’m back from my summer of frolicking and road tripping to the east coast where I visited family. You can read about it in my most recent blog post: A Road Trip and Doing Hard Things.
I’ve never done a multiple-day, distance-drive in my van before. My only experience has been with six-hour drives to camp sites. I was afraid I didn’t know how to do this and wasn’t physically healthy enough to manage it.
I felt fine on the trip, maybe because I didn’t eat much. It was returning home that was difficult. I turned a three-day drive into two days, driving for eleven hours the second day. When I got out of my van at home, it felt like my skin had absorbed the road vibrations and motion. It wasn’t a good feeling.
Plus, I didn’t have a proper home reentry plan. Who knew I even needed one? But I did, especially when it came to returning to my writing life.
Maybe I put too much pressure on myself to return to my old normal—to catch up on all the things I didn’t get done while I was away. Maybe I didn’t allow myself enough low-key recovery time—something with phases. As always, life is a process, and I’m still learning.
I can’t believe it’s October already. Here in Anoka, the Halloween capital of the world, the decorating has already begun. Me, I’m trying to get into the mood. Maybe writing a spooky story would do it. I almost bought a witch’s hat on Etsy, but it was too expensive for me right now. I’ll have to make do with witchy thoughts and a cheap witch hat I bought years ago to wear on a Halloween night bike ride.
I've also been watching YouTube videos about celebrating Samhain. One of my favorite witchy YouTubers is The witches cookery. I’m too lazy to do all the rituals involved with magic and witchery, but I value the walks through nature, being aware of and honoring seasonal changes, growing herbs in my garden, making my own medicinal tea blends, and stirring in good intentions as I brew my tea and make food. Here’s an example of Kitchen Witch Hacks, which is basically food porn:
