Thank you Dr Lujain Alqodmani, Immediate Past President, World Medical Association, for representing WMA and World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) at the World Health Organization 2nd Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health, two weeks ago, and thank you for your insights. #BreatheLife
🌍Two weeks ago, I had the privilege of participating in the World Health Organization’s 2nd Global Conference on Air Pollution and Health (March 26–28, 2025) in Cartagena, Colombia, hosted by the Government of Colombia. Representing the World Medical Association and the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA), and standing proudly as a BreatheLife Champion, I joined colleagues from across the globe to advocate for bold, science-driven action to combat one of the greatest public health threats of our time: air pollution. 💬 I had the honor of sharing testimonies on the health impact of air pollution, the vital role of healthcare professionals, and the WMA’s stance through our Declaration on Air Pollution and Health. The voice of the health community is clear: clean air is a human right and a medical necessity. 🚨 For the first time ever, the WHO set a visionary, quantifiable target: 🔵 Reduce global deaths from air pollution by 50% by 2040. The global response has been inspiring: ✔️ Over 47 million signatures gathered in WHO’s Call to Action ✔️ Countries pledging tangible action: 🇬🇧 🇧🇷 🇲🇽 🇨🇳 🇻🇳 Aligning air quality standards with WHO guidelines 🇩🇪 🇲🇳 🇲🇽 Updating sectoral policies 🇲🇽 Regulating black carbon emissions 🇪🇸 🇳🇴 🇸🇴 🇨🇺 Committing to clean energy transitions 🇬🇧 🇳🇴 Pledging funding for international clean air programs 🌬️ But we are just getting started. It's not too late to add your voice. Sign WHO’s Call to Action and help us drive momentum for cleaner air and healthier communities: https://lnkd.in/dpfrKiww 🙏 Heartfelt thanks to WHO, the Government of Colombia, and all co-organizers for their generous hospitality and their unwavering commitment to a cleaner, healthier future. #CleanAir #HealthForAll #AirPollution #BreatheLife #WHO #WMA #WHPA #GlobalHealth #Cartagena2025 #ClimateAndHealth #PublicHealth #DoctorsForCleanAir Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Maria Neira Samantha Pegoraro Heather Adair-Rohani Jeni Miller Josh Karliner Kirk Douglas MBA, Ph.D. Marina Belén Romanello, PhD Pablo Vega Angelo Moreno Nina R.
