📣 𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧! Introducing Circular Digital Health (DiCE project) . Together with global partners we have secured ~10 million Euro(€) from the EU's Horizon Europe program to tackle digital health waste 🙌 For the past two years we have worked in stealth mode to realize this project, which is led by The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, and involves a total of 20 partners from nine different countries and include leading research institutes and universities, waste associations, and two of the world's biggest companies within the electronics and healthcare sectors. The use of digital health devices is predicted to increase rapidly over the next five years, with expected annual global growth rates of almost 20% by 2027. Today, a vast majority of these products ends up in incinerators, or worse. Unchecked, this is a ticking environmental time bomb. But it's also a significant source of critical raw material for producing not only healthcare devices and electronic products in Europe- if the devices are collected, refurbished and recycled properly. The partners gathered in this consortium covers every point in a circular ecosystem; from product design, manufacturing, collection, nudging, logistics, refurbishment and recycling. Together we'll develop and test complete circular systems for selected devices. Our role in GRIN is to further develop and deliver smart, universal collection systems for medical products. Among other things, these will be deployed in three large scale pilots in Belgium, Spain and Slovenia- with the aim of commercializing and scaling these solutions beyond the DiCE project. Our own Daniel Millet will also be leading one of the work packages in the project; "Technology and processes for waste management, reverse logistics, refurbishment and recycling". Drawing on our experience from developing and launching a number of novel multidisciplinary and multi-sector circular projects. The project kicked-off in Antwerp earlier this month, and it will run until 2026. And to say we are grateful, thrilled (and humble) to be part of a consortium with such partners is an understatement. We will actively be looking for synergies and collaborations with partners beyond the DiCE consortium during this project- so don't hesitate to reach out if circular healthcare is something that you feel strongly about!
