The Press of Atlantic City today reported that additional police officers and cameras will be deployed to make people safer on the Atlantic City Boardwalk? But what good will they do? Just a few days later, the Philadelphia Inquirer published this story describing the City’s other main business district on Atlantic Avenue as like the “Night Of The Living Dead” horror movie!
Like most urban areas in America, the Boardwalk and streets of Atlantic City are filled with criminals, drunks, drug addicts, and the mentally ill who wander around, day and night. In addition, there are roving bands of young people who harass visitors, shoppers, and storeowners alike. What were once Atlantic City’s most popular shopping and tourists areas now look like scenes from horror movies like “Night Of The Living Dead” or “Zombie Apocalypse” In 2015, Democrats pushed through and voters approved a state constitutional amendment that mandated “bail reform”. As a result, it is almost impossible for police to anyone who loiters, urinates, or defecates in public areas, or who commits “minor” crimes there.
While these conditions are found in most major cities, they are not sustainable in Atlantic City which depends on tourists who can easily vacation in safer, more appealing places.
