FM5 5G meter – Freedom Monitor (FM5) Complete 30

This is the world’s first and only hand-held meter for measuring 5G millimetre waves that is both sensitive and affordable. It was developed by the millimeter wave business unit of a defense company.

New testing shows that it effectively measures radiation from 200 MHz to 40 GHz, with the exception of 8 - 10 GHz (which is detected less effectively.) This is a far greater frequency range than detected by most wireless meters.

The FM5 Complete can be used to measure radiation from common sources as well as the higher, millimetre 5G waves that will become more common in the future. This includes:

  • cordless phones, mobile phones and base stations
  • WiFi
  • wireless modems, routers, tablets, baby monitors and other devices
  • IoT devices
  • 5G millimetre sources.

It also has the capacity to be upgraded as technology evolves in the future.

You can see how the meter can be used to pick up millimetre wave frequencies in this short video clip.

Features

  • Quick response time measurements taken thousands of times per second
  • Displays peak and maximum signal strength on LED screen
  • Directional antenna for highly accurate HF screening
  • Audio speakers for identifying signals and determining direction
  • Audio range 40Hz to 16kHz
  • 2 year back-to-base warranty

Technical specifications

  • Measures in microWatts per square metre (uW/m2).
  • Sensitivity, 200 MHz to 8 GHz:
    • sensitivity 1uW/m2 to >100k uW/m2
    • noise floor: better than 1 uW/m2
  • Sensitivity, 10 GHz to 40 GHz:
    • sensitivity 1uW/m2 to >100k uW/m2
    • noise floor: better than 100 uW/m2 *
  • Power draw approx 50mA on low freq module and approx 200mA on high freq module.
  • Power source: 9V battery, battery life depends on battery quality and module used (mm wave module is 400% more battery hungry than the low frequency module) Rechargeable batteries may be useful.
  • Size (mm): 139.53 x 82.21 x 26.69 (L x W x D).
  • Internal loudspeaker with volume control.

Frequently asked questions

How do I measure 10 GHz to 40 GHz?

Select the 24-32 GHz option on the meter which will measure this greater range of frequencies.

* Why is the Noise Floor in the millimeter wave module 100 microWatts per square meter?

The R&D and production for this meter are mainly done by an innovations electronics development company with comprehensive testing in the EUROFINS Laboratory in Bristol, UK. This noise floor level is the best reasonably achievable level at the moment, and the result of more than two years of intensive R&D.  The noise floor can be lowered electronically to achieve nicer numbers (some companies do that), but the manufacturers decided against this. As the meter measures values of up to millions of microWatts per square metre near active 5G millimeter wave devices and in active phone tower beams, they feel confident that this noise level will not really interfere with detection activities.

Customer Feedback

'I have just used it for the first time and using these instructions, it was much easier to use than I expected I must say!' H.D.
