Mentors for New Moms

If you're a parent, you probably remember the support you needed when you were starting out with a new baby.  Volunteering as a Mentor for a new Mom is your chance to walk alongside someone who's just starting on their own parenthood journey. Elizabeth House feels like home - not just for the Moms and babies who live there, but also for every member of the staff and all the volunteers.  You'll will play a key role in making the house a very special place to be. 

As a member of the Elizabeth House Mentorship team, you will work closely with the your team to support the Moms living at Elizabeth House. Your support may look different on every volunteer shift and will require you to flex and adapt to the needs of the Moms and babies on any given day.  

Mentor duties may include: 
•	Providing childcare, giving moms time for self-care
•	Helping with household chores 
•      Leading recreational activities for Mom(s) and/or baby(ies) in the home or out in community 
•	Accompanying Mom and/or Baby to appointments
•	Supporting moms in running errands
•	Preparing good food for and with Moms and babies
•	Connecting Moms and babies to fun activities in the community 
•	Helping with donation-sorting 
•	Helping with house events like milestone celebrations, annual events and recreation

You will also attend monthly Mentorship Team meetings (virtually or in-person, when possible) to share experiences, build skills and support one another. 

Mentors will work shifts in pairs of 2.  Shifts are scheduled weekly (1 shift every week). Shifts are 3 hours. 

Mentors contribute the directly to the achievement of program outcomes by  offering supports focused on social emotional support, helping residents to participate in meaningful planned activities and offering parenting support or respite in times of need.
Additional Details & Skills Required
Mentors will receive 5 hours of training and will be oriented to the program, the role and the facility.
