What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:
• lead the interpretation and implementation of policies, legislation, programs, standards and guidelines consistent with the activities regulated under Oil, Gas and Salt Resources Act (OGSRA)
• lead the transfer of information and provide petroleum related operations input to the review and development of related legislation
• provide strategic guidance, leadership and advice in resolving public issues
• liaise with ministry policy areas and various external client groups and other agencies in relation to petroleum related program delivery
How do I qualify?
Technical expertise:
• You are knowledgeable about the Oil, Gas and Salt Resources Act to provide specialized advice to staff, managers on petroleum related issues and lead task/project teams in the development of sound provincial policies, programs, standards and guidelines.
• You have working knowledge and experience in the application of petroleum principles and practices as applied to production and operations.
• You have knowledge of Indigenous issues, including, land claims and additions to reserve to apply proper protocols in discussions with Indigenous groups.
Communication and interpersonal skills:
• You have a demonstrated ability to work with partners and stakeholders in the sharing and transferring of knowledge, opinions, ideas and information.
• You have proven communication skills to prepare and present briefing notes, Minister's letters and technical reports and to explain policy approaches to staff and the public, including making senior level presentations.
• You are able to develop and maintain effective relationships with clients, federal/provincial agencies, and partners, public, media and participate on a number of provincial, regional and/or inter-agency committees and working groups.
• You have facilitation and conflict resolution skills to identify various perspectives, determine areas of common agreement and develop/gain support from a variety of partners, clients and ministry staff.
Project management and organizational skills:
• You have organizational and project management skills to organize and complete complex projects under pressure, within assigned timelines.
• You have knowledge of financial projections to develop project estimates and track expenditures.
• You can provide team leadership to lead diverse task teams or assigned staff and to coordinate public meetings or public workshops.
Analytical skills:
• You have reasoning and problem-solving skills to analyze information and make recommendations to management and convey appropriate information to staff and the public relating to petroleum operations.
Computer proficiency:
• You have knowledge of personal computers, internet and common office productivity software, such as word processing, email, spreadsheet and presentation applications to prepare briefing materials, correspondence, reports, etc.
