Last Friday, I had the particular blessing of being back at Boston College School of Theology and Ministry, where I earned my M.Div, for "Catholic Women DO Preach: Making Our Voices Heard" – an event to celebrate the publication of Catholic Women Preach: Raising Voices, Renewing the Church - Year A. Of the 64 contributors to the volume, at least 11 have ties to Boston College, either as alumnae or faculty members.
Kayla August, pictured with me above, began the event with rousing preaching before a standing-room-only congregation for the Feast of the Presentation. In her preaching, Kayla noted that Anna (Lk 2:36-38) - while essential to the story - is optional in the lectionary, adding that too many people in our Church and world are left out, silenced, left behind. But is no one is optional in God's eyes: we are ALL a part of God's story, we are ALL essential in the unfolding Reign of God. Our stories matter, our voices matter.
To that, I join the congregation that gathered last week in a hearty "AMEN!"
*The event was recorded, and I hope to be able to share it with you when it becomes available.
