From the President and Historian… As it was last year, the #1 thing on my priority list is to publish another book of 4ID War Stories from our veterans and their spouses. December and January were dismal as far as the number of stories received so the deadline has been extended to the first day of Spring – 21 Mar 2023. This is a month longer than the E-Ivy deadline put out in early January – absolutely no extensions beyond this. GET YOUR STORIES TO ME NO LATER THAN END OF DAY ON 21 MAR 2023.
For we Vietnam and older veterans, you are doing a disservice to your Family, your unit, our 4ID, and to American history if you don’t write down at least one memory of your time serving with 4ID and send it to me. Don’t leave your story untold.
For you younger (late Cold War and War on Terror) veterans, we are into the 20th year since 4ID deployed to Iraq in March/April 2003. Your stories need to be written and shared with others. Thus, if you wore the 4ID patch, or were married to someone who wore the 4ID patch, you qualify to put a story or two into our upcoming book.
What I’m looking for is the same as before – a Word document sent to me via email to bob@deedspublishing.com
or babcock224@aol.com – word count between 200 and 2,000 words, and have it to me by First Day of Spring, 21 March 2023. Any questions, contact me on either of my email addresses and I will respond quickly.
My plan is to have the book finished and available by our reunion the first week of August in Jacksonville, FL. THERE WILL BE NO MORE EXTENSIONS TO SEND STORIES AFTER 21 MAR 2023.
As historian, I’m thinking of starting a weekly or twice monthly 20 Years Ago – 4ID in Iraq summary of what I did on a daily basis back in 2003-2004 with my 4ID Update from Iraq. I have copies of all those so am considering pulling out key stories and either put it out via an E-Ivy Extra or send it via email to people who tell me you are interested. Let me know if you would be interested in taking a walk down memory lane from your time in Iraq in 2003-2004 – 20 years ago.
We are still looking for War on Terror veterans to step up and take on leadership positions in the 4IDA. If you are interested, please let Jerry Bumpus, Don Kelby, Rick Adams, or me (or all of us) know and we’ll be in touch with you.
As always – I remain – Steadfast and Loyal, Bob Babcock, National President and Historian/Archivist bob@deedspublishing.com
