An Innocent Mistake Just Might End Her Life

Pine Valley, Tennessee’s biggest flirt, Wade McKenzie, has devoted himself to keeping his family’s legacy alive. A decision that cost him the love of his life when he refused to abandon the restaurant that means so much to him. When Jude breezes back into Pine Valley years later, one look at her has him second guessing everything.

Photographer Jude Metcalf had no intention of ever returning to her hometown, but when she accidentally captures a drug-deal gone bad on film, she has nowhere else to run. Her troubled past makes trusting anyone impossible—even the police. So she swallows her pride and asks for help from the one person she’s ever depended on. The man she left broken hearted when she had no choice but to leave Pine Valley and her abusive father behind.

When Jude’s attacked, Wade secures protection for her at Crossroads Mountain Retreat—a place for wounded law enforcement and veterans to heal. People are in town looking for Jude, and Wade knows one wrong move will blow her cover. He left her side once before, and he won’t make the same mistake again. Even if it costs him his life.

Wade McKenzie and Jude Metcalf were each others first loves until Jude left Wade behind in Pine Valley and never returned. Jude had many reasons why she felt that it was necessary to leave and Wade also had many reasons why he couldn't leave. Now it has been over 10 years and Jude has returned and is asking Wade for help. She has witnessed a murder and doesn't know where to go for help and who to trust but she does know that she can always trust Wade. Wade is bitter that this is the reason that Jude has come back but he is willing to help Jude but has no plans to get personally involved with her again. Their story comes with a lot of angst. Jude has a lot of personal baggage that instead of dealing with she has been trying to outrun. Wade is trying to do the best he can with the cards that life has dealt him. He is a kind man and has been dealing with a lot in the past decade as best as he can. Their story was good. Full of loss, laughter and love. Crossroads of Innocence was told from dual POV and easily stands alone in the Injured Heroes series but they are all such good stories I recommend reading them all.

A wonderful read with some favorite romance tropes - childhood sweethearts, forced proximity, and second-chance love. This book is a bit different than the others in the series. Neither Wade nor Jude is any relation to law enforcement and they don’t have the troubles weighing them down that others seek the assistance of the retreat do (PTSD, injury, etc.); but they do have friends, old and new, at the retreat that offer refuge and assistance. So, you’ll be able to revisit several characters from other books in the series.

After years of abuse at the hand of her father, Jude Metcalf flees Pine Valley, Tennessee after high school and never looks back. It was the hardest decision she had to make to leave Wade, her high school love, but in order to survive she had no choice. Now 18 years later she’s back in the place she never wanted to return seeking help from the one and only person she could ever depend on, hoping he won’t turn her away. Seeing him again, and being with her friends and family has her rethinking her decision to leave when everything’s settled. It was almost impossible to do once and being back and entangled with her past again, she doesn’t know if she’ll be strong enough to do it again.

Wade made one of the hardest decisions of his life when he refused to leave Pine Valley with Jude all those years ago. With recent tragedy and family obligations weighing him down, he stayed and devoted his life to his family legacy – the Chill ‘N Grill bar/restaurant and to his mother, though Jude has never been far from his thoughts. When she appears in his bar asking for help, he’s suddenly rethinking everything. He tries to harden his heart and keep her at a distance but when Jude’s attacked he realizes how much she still means to him and to what lengths he’ll go to keep her safe and back in his life.

Though this book is slightly different than the others you’ll still find suspense, danger, humor, angst, drama, and love. I do wish there would have been more resolution regarding Jude’s family issues but I'm hopeful that will come in a future book. It's still a great read and I definitely recommend it and the rest of the series.

Never a dull moment in this book. Jude escaped her past from her father, but now she's back and in danger for a different reason. I'm glad we get to read about Wades story. There's definitely danger, suspense and misunderstandings. HEA.

This book was so suspenseful! I loved the twists and turns of this book! 😍

Jude left town when she was younger and never looked back. Unfortunately, after documenting something she wasn’t supposed to, she’s on the run.

The only person she can think of to help is her ex-boyfriend, Wade, who she left behind 12 years ago.

Wade is surprised to see Jude, but helps protect her the best he can. He enlists the help from the local police to keep her safe.

Along with the man hunting to get her, Jude faces demons from her past that she ran from. Will she be able to lean on Wade for support even though she broke his heart once?

I enjoyed reading this book! The story line kept you so engaged in trying to figure out how they would navigate trying to protect Jude.

Danielle Haas nailed the last installment to the series. This book is full of emotion. A book written about Crime & Love.

Danielle Haas changes things up a bit this time. In Crossroads of Innocence the bad guy is aknown quantity but when, how or who he'll go after is the question. Jude Metcalf is in danger and returns to her hometown and the man she left behind because she's out of options. Wade McKenzie has moved on with his life but having Jude show up after leaving him twelve years ago is a shocker. Despite his hurt, finding out why she's returned raises all of his protective instincts. They need to have an honest conversation but staying one step ahead of her attacker is proving to be difficult. Jude has many fences to mend and that starts with Jude. It turns out that neither of their feelings is one another have diminished but healing old wounds not just with him but with her family is going to take some doing. But first, the threat must be eliminated. Cruz, Lincoln, Chet and Wade are doing everything possible. Will it be enough?

This was a very very good book! I was engrossed in the story from the beginning to the end. I was sad at the end because I wished there would have been a few more chapters to see how it went with her family. The characters were awesome!
If you like suspense, you’ll adore this book. I highly recommend this author and this series.
