Kameron I was never happier than the day my mother ( and grandmother ) agreed that I could leave the great state of Texas to attend a college nearly two thousand blissful miles away from home. They only agreed I also had a secret obligation to fulfill to myself. I was going to pursue my passion —photography—and find a man to give myself to who my brothers couldn’t intimidate. A man who wouldn’t turn college into a cautionary tale of heartbreak and self-loathing , but instead a fond memory. A man who wasn’t a player, an F-boy, or some stupid jock. The thing is, the only guy I’ve met on a campus who’s held my interest is, in fact, a jock. Not just any jock; he’s one of Uncle Brad’s top players . Evan Senior year’s focus should be all about securing my spot with the Brooklyn Bears. Should be skating easy. I s hould be … but I’m not. I’m about to make an enemy out of the one person I should be bowing to— Coach Kosta . Not my fault he hired a smoke show to be our team photographer. One with hella curves , southern charm , and impeccable taste in men —me. One who confessed she’d never given herself to anyone but trusted that I’m the right man for the job. They say, “sticks over chicks,” but whoever coined that phrase had obviously never met a girl like Kameron Kosta, the coach’s niece. I’ll let that chick do whatever she wants to my … stick, no matter the cost.

Snap Shot is the second book in the Taking the Shot series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Evan Smith is in his senior year at Lincoln U and is focused on getting into the NHL. He’s goofy and a little bit of a playboy, but he’s not arrogant.

Kameron has just become the photographer for the hockey team because her uncle is the coach. She’s a little insecure in some aspects because of her past and what her family, namely her mother and grandmother, have said about her.

It was insta-love for them, or at least for Evan. He really just fell for Kameron instantly, and he was very open about his feelings. He didn’t play games, and even when she tried to tell him they couldn’t be together, he was still just a ray of sunshine.

Kameron can’t deny her feelings for Evan either, but there’s a slight problem because of her situation back home. While it could have potentially caused a fight between them, Evan didn’t get overly upset and fight with Kameron, but rather let Kameron explain.

This was a very heart-warming book with all the feel-good emotions. Kameron and Evan were so cute, and Evan was a total golden retriever.

When I read a book by MJ Fields I already know it’s going to be an automatic 5 Star ⭐️ ! She writes with such depth and emotion in her storyline with amazing attention to details and emotions.
I fell in love with Kameran and Evan! She is a junior in college and head of her sorority.
Evan is a senior and of course a gorgeous ice hockey player for the college.
They are absolutely perfect for each other! I love this series, it’s book 2 in the Lincoln U-Ice Hockey Taking the Shot and I am addicted!
This storyline has so many happy surprises and great secondary characters. I loved it when Evan calls her Houston ❤️. It’s a beautiful book with a very beautiful happily ever after. I plan on reading the series and can’t wait for the next book! A definite recommendation ❤️
(Betsy was one of my favorite characters because we share something in common)

This book was everything I hoped it would be! It was so much fun to read, I laughed so much.

Evan is the goofy college kid that you would expect. He’s never been one for a girlfriend but I’m walks Kameron and everything changes. He becomes the guy that celebrates weeks together and remembers her favorite coffee. He becomes the guy that sees how much love can empower you instead of hold you down.

Kameron has always been what everyone expected her to be. She made sure everyone around her was happy and just smiled because she was supposed to. Evan shows her that she is beautiful, strong, smart, and so much more than she’s allowed herself to be.

I love how much they changed each other for the better, not just in their relationships with themselves but in their relationships with the people around them. They were finally happy with themselves which allowed them to become closer with their families (or tell the truth👀) and accept the people around them for who they are.

This book goes into mental health in a sensitive way that can relate to so many people. I was worried when I caught onto it but the way that MJ handled it was beautiful. I love the strength that she gave Cody through Kami, Evan, coach and Mrs. coach. He deserves all the goodness in the world🫶🏻

I have been in such a reading slump and this book made me happy to pick up a book again.

MJ Fields Snap Shot: Lincoln U- Ice Hockey (Taking the Shot Book 2) is a romance about Delta sorority president Kameron and the college hockey team captain Evan. Kameron is assigned to be the Hockey team photographer and meets Evan at a photo shoot. To complicate matters, the hockey coach is Kam’s uncle, and she has a boyfriend, Cody. Cody and Kameron’s parents made the match between them for family financial gain and not a love match—neither of them is in love with the other. Evan falls for Kameron hard and fast. Kam finally decides to date Evan secretly, and each thoroughly enjoys getting to know the other. Evan is a surfer boy to hockey ice king with absentee parents, and Kameron is a third-generation pageant girl with ballet as her talent and overbearing parents(location1220). Kameron and Evan form a new family with friends, Coach Kosta and his wife, Betsy. M J Fields used sensitivity in addressing female bullying and the tragic consequences of an eating disorder that some parents overlook in favor of a distorted view of beauty. Reading Snap Shot was like indulging in a deliciously decadent dessert. M J Fields hooked me on her books with the Rockers of Steel Series and, from there, to her Men of Steel Series. I enjoy reading every book that MJ Fields publishes.

The second book in the taking the shot series, this book centres on a photographer and a hockey player. Kameron and Evan, meet and hit it off, but there is a complication to their relationship, Kameron is the niece of Evan's hockey coach, but she also believes she has to live up to the expectations of the people around her. Evan has dreams of making the NHL. Evan and Kameron have a great connection and it's this connection that allows her to discover what makes her happy and how she can live her best life for her, not just for the people around her. This book was received as an eARC, so thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book, I definitely enjoyed reading about Evan and Kameron.

This is the second instalment in the Lincoln U Ice Hockey series and it was just as fantastic as Book one. Evan was your typical college single guy, happy go lucky and not one to be tied down. Yet from the first moment he notices Kameron the teams photographer and his coach's neice it's game on!

He falls hard and fast and yet she is holding back. Their chemistry is off the charts hot from the get go and they have to keep things under wraps until Kami can share the secrets she has been keeping and with good reason.

I really enjoyed watching the banter between Evan and Kami, they were absolutely adorable and I couldn't stop smiling the whole way through. A wonderful read.

This is book two in the Taking the Shot series but can be read as a standalone. I’m a sucker for a sports romance so this was right up my alley. I really enjoyed Evan and Kameron’s relationship. This is definitely a “he falls first and harder” romance and that’s one of my favorite tropes. It worked really well in this book! Evan felt like a total cinnamon roll character, he was always so positive and understanding and I really liked that about him.
This had some really nice and emotional moments while still being a fun and feel-good read.

Snap Shot is Book 2 in the Taking the Shot Series by M.J. Fields featuring a an entertaining college hockey romance with plenty of emotion too. Kameron’s life was basically planned out for her like a script to be performed. Her only saving grave. The act about college that allowed her to go to Lincoln University, as long as she pledged to the right sorority. She had very personal plans of the male variety. She just never believed that the guy who would fit her criteria would be a hockey player! Evan’s plans for senior year were to focus on hockey, so he could go pro, but he didn’t count on meeting a game changer like her. Their connection is immediate and fiery, but secrets and complications are abound. Is their bond strong enough to overcome the obstacles that may befall them, or were they just meant to be a fling?

Guys, I think I’m in my hockey romance era! I don’t even watch sports, but I love sports romance books! This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and I was hooked right away by the witty banter and the world building of the team and the characters. The thing was, it wasn’t just funny. Kameron and Evan had an instant connection that was spicy when it needed to be, but he was so loving and caring with her. It was probably a little out of character for most guys his age, but I loved him! Also, there are a couple sensitive topics that end up being discussed that I don’t want to spoil, but I will say they were handled beautifully by the author. I will say I especially loved the way characters with a medical issue were portrayed. I have a physical disability myself, so I want to be one particular character when I grow up!🥰 I had no trouble enjoying this book without reading Long Shot first, but I loved Leo and Ellie here, so I look forward to going back to their book now! I think Bass’ story is next, and I am here for it!!

I received a free ARC, and am leaving this review voluntarily.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved the first book in this series and had to pick this one up! 🏒🥅

Evan is on the hockey team for his university and is starting his senior year. He meets Kameron, who is his coach’s niece and photography assistant for the team. Kameron is a sorority girl with some secrets. She had previously lived in Texas and there is a guy named Cody that she’s not telling many people about.

Evan falls first and hard. He wants to convince her to date him, but there is a little snag in that plan. He plans to wait for her and help her get through all of her family drama.

**spoiler alert There is technically cheating because Kameron has a bf back home. However they have never been intimate and are nothing more than friends trying to please their parents. Cody also has some things he’s hiding from his family, and he knows about Kam and Evan from very early on!

Kam’s aunt has MS and it is talked about throughout the story.

I loved how much Evan loved her! He celebrated their week anniversaries and I thought that was so cute! He never shamed her for the other guy, just listened to her explanation and waited for her! No miscommunication after they discuss it! The spice starts early and was written well ! Overall I am enjoying this series!

You shoot you score🏒💙Snap Shot is incredibly amazing!! I loved every moment of this book. MJ this series just gets better and better.

Evan and Kameron are very interesting, engaging and passionate characters with a highly exciting, fascinating and enticing storyline.

The sexy and witty banter between these characters is amusing and HOT. Their connection and chemistry is sizzling and beautiful.

Evan is the type of book boyfriend that will have you falling head of toe for him. He’s sweet, adorable and panty melting dirty talker.

Besides the romantic aspects of this book I really liked the relationship Evan has with his teammates and how Kameron finally let’s go of trying to please her family and become the independent woman she’s meant to be.

Congratulations MJ🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻Evan and Kameron are simply REMARKABLE characters with and OUTSTANDING and INVITING storyline

Kameron “Kami” Kostas is focused on school and becoming the president of her sorority. Although, she is quiet, she has her reasons.

Evan Smith is a star on the Lincoln University hockey team. When a chance meeting at the team’s photo shoot happens he pulls out all the stops for Kami. Never wanting to settle down in his senior year, he wants nothing more than to be Kami’s everything.

“I promise you, if you let yourself fall for me, I’ll never let you touch the ground.”

4 1/2 stars!! I absolutely loved everything about this book. I loved how Kami found herself with the help and love of Evan. She struggled in the past, and he made her feel loved and cherished. I love all of the hockey boys, and even Cody Warren. Can’t wait for Bass.

Wow! Evan really outdid himself in The golden retriever boyfriend department! Evan & Kameron were so cute together and I loved their instant connection. I typically have a trigger when it comes to anything dealing with eating disorders but I thought this was handled really well with the food and weight issue kameron was struggling with and evan did a fantastic job being a supportive boyfriend. Like long shot this read super quickly and felt like I was watching tv the way these kids talk so quickly and in circles I really

Snap Shot – Taking the Shot #2 - Review

Couple: Evan & Kameron

Author: M.J. Fields

Tropes: college romance, hockey romance, sports romance, Coach’s niece, forced proximity, friends to lovers

Review: Captain America takes the ice anyone? M.J. does it again in this hilarious and wit filled rom com! In this dual POV romance we get to read the Captain’s story…finally!

Evan won my whole heart in this book. I loved how M.J. created his character to be a huge flirt but not a playboy. He reminded me of a surly golden retriever in the book since he was walled off but also boundless in his flirtation. I also LOVED how he was with Kami. I felt like his support and care was a driving factor in this book and hockey took a backseat. I also loved how we see his relationship with his roommates and teammates again and how they build on the plot.

Kami is a complex character. Her secret fiancé and tumultuous bond with her parents made me love her about halfway through this book. Her slow growth was also a great factor for developing angst in this romance since it took her time to trust Evan and was slow to open up to him. I enjoyed the dynamic she had with her uncle and the hockey team since the big conflict in the story was how she was the coach’s niece. My favorite areas of the book occurred once we met her “fiancé” and learned the backstory.

This book is a medium burn. The couple has terrific chemistry and fills the pages with their banter and wit. I loved how Evan was a serious MMC yet was also a huge flirt that could break awkward tension. I also loved how Evan was so unaware that he was a flirt and at times seemed genuinely confused when people called him out on it.

This is a perfect college hockey romance for those in the hockey mood!

Rating: 4/5, another great hockey read of 2023!

I haven't read book one of the series, though I assume it is about Leo and Ellie. This made no difference in my enjoyment of this one. Evan Smith is on the hockey team at Lincoln University and shares a house with a couple other members of the team. He is a good-looking guy who has no trouble finding girls to hook up with, but he had never had a serious crush on one. His life, so far, has been about family and hockey. His family owns several restaurants in California and it is presumed that he will come back and run one of them like his brothers do. Evan has no desire to do so, he dreams of going pro and knows he has a good shot at it (pun intended). When he meets Kameron Kostas at a photo shoot for team pictures, he is smitten. She is beautiful, funny, and blushes at him when he compliments her. Unfortunately she is also the coach's niece, but he isn't going to let that deter him.

Kami is expected to 'do her mother and grandmother proud' and become president of Delta sorority like they were. She is just glad she got as far away from Texas as she could, even if it was only because her Uncke Brad was the hockey coach at Lincoln. Massachusetts was far enough away from all the expectations and cutting remarks about her weight and she actually had friends who didn't care about her family ties. Meeting Evan was unexpected because he seemed to like her curves and he made her laugh. But she had a secret, not counting the one where she was a virgin who was ready to lose that distinction. Even her secret has a secret...

I liked Evan, Kami, Uncle Brad, Aunt Betsy and all Evan's friends. I even like Cody, though i was prepared not to. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

I was given an eARC copy of this book from WordSmith Publicity for an honest review.

I enjoyed the heck out of this book. I wasn't aware this was the second book in a series, but now I needta go back and read the first book! I loved the characters, and I loved the plot. He falls first is adorable when some correctly, and this one was great.

Living in the shadow of her family, Kameron Kosta is happy to at least be away form her overbearing mother and grandmother while she attends Lincoln U - but the ties that bind have her bound up in a corset so tight, she's about the pop. Allowing herself to get close to the cute hockey player whose dirty talk sends a shiver down her spine isn't in her life plan. But Hockey player Evan Smith intends to make Kami his - not just for one night, but forever.

With Kami as the team photographer for the university, Evan see this as a way to get in with his coach's niece. Games turn into shared holidays, and the pair spend a lot of time together under the radar, because they are both worried about how Kami's uncle will react. But when Kami's secrets, and the secrets of others come to light, can Evan see his way to her heart? And better yet, can Kami finally admit her feelings for Evan and let him in?

The side characters were fun, the atmosphere was great, and I loved the back and forth between Evan and Kami - and how I honestly never knew what was going to come out of Evan's mouth haha I loved Kami's reaction to his words, too. can't wait to read more in this universe!

M. J. Fields scores with SNAP SHOT (Taking The Shot #2). Lincoln University hockey star, Evan Smith (Smitty) is in his senior year of college. He needs to focus on having a good year to ensure his spot on the Brooklyn Bears. He is intrigued by the new team photographer, Kameron Kostas. He discovers that she is his coach’s niece. He should stay away from her. The problem is no one has ever made him feel the way she does when he is around her before.

Newly elected Delta sorority president, Kameron Kostas, loves being at Lincoln University. After college, she will have obligations to fulfill. Before that happens, she decides to have a fling with Evan Smith.

I like Evan and Kameron. Evan is the teammate/roommate of Leo (LONG SHOT, Taking The Shot #1). He is a good guy. He is flirty and fun. Kameron has had some bad experiences with people fat shaming her. I love that Evan finds her beautiful the way she is and does not let her starve herself. I was also a photographer who covered hockey games in college, so I appreciated having that in common with Kameron.

SNAP SHOT was well-written. It had some interesting twists. It was an excellent addition to the Taking The Shot series. I am looking forward to Bass’ story next, book three, HOT SHOT. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

An excellent quick and dirty hockey romance! This was my first MJ Fields read and she did not disappoint. Evan Smith is book boyfriend gold!!

This college hockey romance - Book 2 of the Taking the Shot series - tells Evan and Kameron’s story. A forbidden romance between an athlete and his coach’s niece. This was an easy read that had me constantly coming back for more. The witty dynamic between Evan and Kameron was great, and the Coach and his wife, Betsy, were definitely entertaining side characters.

Evan’s flirty personality is perfectly written! His incredibly sweet and thoughtful side was deliciously balanced with his dirty mouth. While Kameron is from a privileged upbringing and arrogant, unloving parents, yet she comes across as endearing, intelligent, sassy and relatable. Without a third act breakup, MJ was able to conjure up enough drama and hiccups along the way to have you unable to put Snap Shot down, until the very last moment of their HEA.

I will definitely be reaching for more of MJ’s books in the future, and I cannot wait for Hot Shot, Book 3 of the Taking The Shot series, to come out!!

Huge thank you to MJ Fields and Wordsmith Publicity for allowing me to read and review this ARC.

Snap Shot is Book 2 in the ‘Taking The Shot’ series, all are standalone reads but in my opinion you get a better understanding of the characters if you read the book in conjunction with each other.

Evan Smith isn’t just your typical’jock’, yes he’s flirty, sexy and fun but he’s also sweet and is enjoying a typical Uni pastime, until he crosses paths with the coach’s new hire, the new team photographer, Kameron, then all bets are out the window. Instantly struck with Kameron, but the punchline is, she’s none other than Coach’s niece!

Kameron Kosta has just transferred from Texas but with a lot of family expectations on her shoulders and with her uncle, who is the coach for the uni’s hockey team also keeping an eye on her, doesn’t give her total freedom. But her uncle being who he is, gives her the perfect opportunity to try her hand at her dream of becoming a photographer by joining the hockey team, but with her ‘no jock rule’ she doesn’t expect to attracted to none other than her uncle’s best player.

This book is a sweet heartwarming read of opposites attract, but not without a large dose of drama and a bit of heat and the
fantastic side characters - Coach Brad and Betsy are brilliant! I’m loving this series so it’s ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me.

I was an ARC reader for Long Shot and immediately fell in love with MJ Fields and her book. I got to read her ARC for this book, Snap Shot, and I fell in love all over again!

Kameron and Evan have a different relationship than any other hockey book I've read. I love how MJ Fields tackles another concept in the NCAA and sports in general when it comes to LGBTQ+. Evan and Kameron's story could literally be a movie because of how realistic and dramatic it is. I could just see it in my head! MJ Fields also addresses something with sororities that needs to change today, and I appreciate it as someone who was in a sorority. Evan is such a cute character and the best character for "he falls first." He is the boyfriend everyone wants!

The book is beautifully written, and it's very easy to read. Sometimes when reading, I get confused and have to reread pages, but I didn't have to for this book. For that, I thank MJ Fields. This book has so many fun, spicy scenes and deserves all the love! Evan and Kameron are perfect together, and they are goals!!!
I need the next one asap!

Book two in the series, but can definitely be a standalone. I think I could appreciate the other characters more after reading Long Shot first. Evan is just perfect—gorgeous, nice, funny, flirty. He is also completely hung up on Kameron from first sight. I hated that Kim went into things with him with very different motives than he did. She made a lot of wrong assumptions about who he is as a person. I hated her spending that time with him, letting him start falling for her without giving him at least part of the truth. She hurt him a lot and while the hurt wasn’t exactly done intentionally, it was very thoughtless on her part. I love Coach Brad and Betsy. They are so great and I love that they are finally getting kids even if the kids are technically grown. Cody is pretty good too once we finally spend a little time with him. Cody and Kam’s families leave a lot to be desired. There are a lot of hurtful things going on there. I especially loved confrontational drunk Evan. Maybe Dean will have something with the Lincoln newcomer? That would be yummy.

Evan might be a cocky ice hockey player but he is also a sweetheart and genuinely lovely guy. Kameron is a confident girl in almost all areas of her life but her mother and grandmother make her so self conscious at times.

Evan is a refreshing character because he doesn’t play games, trying to make Kameron jealous etc. Instead he proves to her how much he wants her, he is there for her, he stands by her. He doesn’t allow anyone to put her down and I loved that.

Kameron has a lot going on behind the scenes and she definitely is more than what she shows to most of the world. I loved her confidence and the way her and Evan are together is just so cute.

It was great to see characters from the previous book mentioned regularly. This added another layer to the storyline as it created a deeper connection for all the characters.

I definitely recommend reading this series, each is a standalone but I suggest starting with book one, Long Shot.

Evan falls hard and fast for Kameron the day she comes to take headshots for the hockey team. Kameron has a complicated history with her mom telling her she is going to marry her moms best friends son. She also suffered from eating disorder because of being a pageant and her mother and grandmothers criticism.

Kameron put on some weight in college and when she was elected president of her sorority it was placed on a website about how she is not like the typical sorority princess and that her weight will bring down the quality of her sorority. Ethan finds out and swoops in to fix it and get all the comments removed.

I loved the dynamic of Evan and Kameron and I think its so important when books have real life problems that people may have (i.e. eating disorder). I am also a sucker for a he falls first trope.

I really liked this book and can't wait for book 3 to come out.

This second addition to this series was a pretty good read and a good addition to the series.

In this edition we get Evan and Kameron's story. It was an instant attraction/love type story for this pair with the characters from the first book of the series making appearances as well as the addition of some new characters. This pair had chemistry that was off the charts that started at their first encounter. Where this read has a touch of forbidden romance (Evan's coach is Kameron's uncle) and that Kameron has a history of an eating disorder, both characters are relatable - Evan with his desire/pressure to be drafted to a pro hockey team and Kameron to follow the family legacy and please not just her mother but her grandmother as well.

This book can be read as a standalone with no need to read the first book of the series but reading book one will be helpful just so that one is familiar with the supporting characters. This was a quick read that I enjoyed just like other books that Ms Fields has written. Overall, I would recommend this book to others.

This is book 2 in the Taking the Shot Series but in my opinion it can certainly read and enjoyed as a stand-alone. If you love YA sports romances Evan Smith and Kameron’s story should be on your radar.
Evan is in his senior year at Lincoln U and is looking forward to getting into the NHL, he is not your typical University hockey play because he is quirky, goofy and a playboy without an arrogant bone in his body.
Kameron is the coaches niece and that should put her off limits but she has just got a job as team photographer and that’s puts her in close proximity with Evan.
This pair are total opposites but we all know that opposites attract and from the moment they meet Evan falls hard and fast. What follows is a man deeply in love trying to convince Kameron to take a chance but her past and her home situation means she is not looking or wanting love.
This is an emotional and heartwarming journey, it has characters you fall hard and fast for, it’s has all the feels and it’s a great addition to the series.

🏒 Hockey romance
🏒 College romance
🏒 Forbidden (Coach’s niece)
🏒 Insta love
🏒 He falls first
🏒 Innocent FMC
🏒 Stand alone (interconnected series)

This is by far one of my favorite college hockey romances. The banter between Evan and his friends/teammates had me laughing out loud. He is such a fun loving character and I loved the way he wasn’t shy about his feelings for Kami. The story is a good one with a decent amount of angst coming from a relationship Kami has back home that hasn’t ended yet. It adds a bit of drama and a good storyline that I hope continues later in the series. The side characters are amazing and I have to say, as good as the romance is between Evan and Kami, I am LOVING Uncle Brad and Aunt Betsy. Talk about swoon worthy!! Definitely recommend this to any hockey/sports romance lover.

There are a couple situations that could be sensitive to some readers so caution is advised, but each area is handled well by the author/characters.

Evan knows he should stay away from Kameron - his coach’s niece, it is just asking for trouble if he wants a chance at the NHL. A charmer at heart, he has never been serious about a girl but he falls fast and hard with Kami. While he loves his family and spends time with them when he can, Kami has escaped her family to come to Lincoln, hoping to get closer to her aunt and uncle and live life on her own terms. But the complications of her home life catch up with her - can she break free of everyone else’s expectations and make her own choices?

I really liked both characters in this book. Kami has some hard decisions to make but she make them with grace while protecting others and true to herself.

I read the first book in this series and really liked it, although I think I might like this one a bit more. But they build on each other a bit so I recommend reading the first one.

I read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Kameron and Evan

he falls first
insta-lust/love
coach's niece

Evan fell hard when he first saw Kameron (Houston).

They had a bit of a tough time together because something was holding Kameron back when Evan told her how much he wanted to be together. He was such a good guy. Never pushed or did anything to make her feel uncomfortable or wanted to do something when she knew she couldn't. Not until she had a conversation with someone from back home. Evan made Kam feel like her true self and wanted for exactly how she was. He made her feel beautiful and wanted.

Easy and quick read. I received an ARC for this book in return for my honest opinion. I would 100 recommend this book. This is the second book in the Taking the shot series. can be read as a stand along but has same characters.
