Established in 1969, the United South and Eastern Tribes, Inc. (USET) is a non-profit, inter-Tribal organization serving thirty-three (33) federally recognized Tribal Nations from the Northeastern Woodlands to the Everglades and across the Gulf of Mexico. USET is dedicated to enhancing the development of Tribal Nations, improving the capabilities of Tribal governments, and improving the quality of life for Indian people through a variety of technical and supportive programmatic services. The Nansemond Indian Nation in Virginia is getting back what it has been working for for decades: land. More than seventy acres of land in Suffolk has been returned to the Nansemond Indian Nation. “The sacred land where our ancestors once thrived has finally returned back to us. The invasive emerald ash borer endangers the health and survival of the black ash tree. Tyler Everett, Mi'kmaq Nation citizen and USET Tribal Forest Adaptation Technical Assistant said basket makers alerted regional leaders to the emerald ash borer's devastating impact on black ash trees.
