Five HOT AF Stars

Vampyr, Mortal, And GOD! Oh, MY!

Hot Damn, Mors and Avea are scorching hot. Avea is half-mortal, half-vampyr. At the same time, Mors is the God of Death. In desperate need of help, Avea seeks help from Mors and makes a deal for ten years.
While Mors acts god-like, he is unaware that Avea will challenge him. She is fierce, fearless, strong, and intelligent. I love Mors. Even Death deserves love.
The author has yet to disappoint me. I know she will write a book that is not only compelling but it’s also spicy. She created a word in such great detail. I love it when an author does this, and I can picture it.
This book is for you if you’re a PNR or fantasy reader.

I really enjoyed the story of this book. An I liked the tie In with the first book. I gave 3 stars because it felt rushed in a lot of places and it felt like parts of the story is missing.

Court of Death held me in its cold clutches right from the start and didn’t let go until the end and I loved every second of the journey.

Avea finds the one person she cares about in life at deaths door and then literally finds herself at deaths feet. Death, aka Mors, is fascinated by the woman kneeling before him begging for the life of another at the expense of hers. Not much in his long lonely godly existence has surprised him but she does so he offers something other than death.

“I do not want your death, love. I want your life,” I murmur. “I will make you a deal. I will save his life, and in turn, you will give me yours. You will come with me.”

Avea may have begged for help but she is far from a weak wallflower. She is light and life and grit in a powerful package. Mors knows this and knows she carries secrets and he is desperate to own her body, mind and soul.

Avea never expects to find Death so captivating and Mors never expects to actually feel.

“I have felt emotions. Once,” I admit.

“When?” she asks, clearly not believing me.

“When you walked into my temple and met my eyes.”

Mors and Avea start to bond the more time they spend together and understand each other on a level neither was ever expecting. The chemistry and intimacy between these two was incredible and I had no problems with the amount of steam in this story. I reveled in it. It was plentiful and so spicy.

“Look at us together, Avea. We are perfect. Light and dark. Life and death. We were meant to be.”

But not everything is easy and danger and politics comes for the two of them, especially after Avea discovers her past. But Mors and Avea will fight tooth and nail for their happily ever after.

I loved this. It was hot, action packed and the world building was unique. Mors was all alpha male and grumpy but had a tender spot for his mate. Avea was strong and didn’t back down from a fight. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can’t wait to see what’s next in this world.

“Where he ends, I begin. We are one. Life and death. Two halves of the same whole, united like we always should have been.”

2,5/5 Stars! I don’t even know where to start with this one. I loved the first third, loved Death and his Loki vibes and Avea promised to be a great heroine. But then Mors became too soft, way too touchy feely and Avea just always gets angry and does not seem to have any character development. The middle part is kind of boring and then she gets so OP and the story sidelines Mors completely and it just…gets annoying in the end. The smut was also mostly repetitive and lost its appeal over the course of the book.
Also, the end felt really half-hearted. She kinda dies and because of that she cannot be killed without taking the world down with her? Just felt too easy and random. And the gods were really boring and flat as well.

So it started really amazing but lost most of its appeal throughout the course of the book. I am a Little disappointed because I felt like Mors had so much potential. Still read it in a day tho.

What a fantastic series K.A. Knight has written in her Courts and Kings series.

This book is the second of the series and while they are standalones, the judges from book 1 popped in for a couple cameos and it was great 🗡️ 😈.

The world building has been fantastic as were the characters of Avea and Mors who is the god of death 💀

I will be reading all these books as they come out.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Honestly, the second standalone in this series surpassed the first one for me. I found Avea and Mors' relationship more captivating in this book than in the initial standalone of the series. Avea discovers the one person she deeply cares about on the brink of death, and she soon finds herself facing mortality. Death, also known as Mors, is intrigued by the woman kneeling before him, pleading for another's life at the cost of her own. Few things have surprised him in his long, solitary divine existence, but she does. Hence, he offers something beyond death. Although Avea sought help, she is anything but a weak bystander. She embodies light, life, and resilience in a formidable package. Mors recognizes this and understands she harbors secrets, yearning to possess her entirely – body, mind, and soul. As Mors and Avea spend more time together, a profound bond forms, and they connect on a level neither expected. The chemistry and intimacy between them are remarkable, and I thoroughly enjoyed the intense passion in their story. The abundance of steamy moments was delightful and added spice to the narrative. I particularly appreciated how K.A Knight introduced the "Judges" in the second book; it was a clever twist that seamlessly complemented the plot. I am eagerly looking forward to delving into the third book of the "Courts & Kings Series."

This book grips you from the prologue. It's one of those books that grabs your attention from the getgo and never lets it go. It was fast paced and never a dull moment. The literal god of death falling in love with a mortal? Swoon.

My favorite part of this whole book was the development of the relationship. The way they grow to love and care for each other was such an enjoyable read. Going from tolerating each other because of a deal to being willing to, literally, die for one another. It wasn't insta love, either. They really had to work for it which I appreciated.

The spice was definitely 🔥🔥🔥. It was enough to make you blush.

If I had any complaints it would just be that the spice was a little much in some areas and got a bit repetitive. Other than that I really can't find fault with this book. It has the forbidden yet undeniable attraction, found family, and a happy ending.

Court of Death is book 2 in the Courts and Kings series and like any other book by Katie I have read, it was amazing. I only starting reading her books about a year ago, and there is nothing I have read so far that I have not thoroughly enjoyed.

We follow Mors, the God of Death and Avea who is half mortal/half vampyr (but we soon find out that is not all she is).

We find out that Avea wakes up in a magical forest when she was just a child. She has no idea how she got there and she has no memories of her life before then. She manages to survive until Mateo, the person who becomes her best friend/brother finds her.

We jump forward and she desperately needs help to save Mateo, so she visits Mors to make a bargain with him if he will save Mateo's life.

Mors is intrigued by Avea, so he agrees. The bargain is 10 years of her life and she will do anything he commands of her during that time. After all to a God, 10 years is just a drop in the ocean.

Both Mors and Avea have led lonely lives, so it was great to see them opening up to each other, the longer they were together.

Their relationship wasn't easy at first, as they did hit a few bumps in the road (like when he left her to do his job, not realising the mess he left her in after getting her worked up).

Avea starts to get some new powers, not linked to her human/vampyr half, but the side of her she is just starting to find out about. She has to learn how to wield and control them without harming herself or those close to her.

And we haven't talked about the spice. There is lots & lots of spice.

This latest installment in the Courts & Kings series by KA.Knight is a must-read. The dynamic between Avea and Mors is captivating, as they navigate through unexpected twists and turns on their journey together. As Avea uncovers her past, there is just the right amount of drama and power struggles to keep the reader hooked. And let's not forget the enticing preview for the next book - I'm eagerly waiting for the rest of this series to unfold. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!

I'm sorry, but this book was horrible. I did not like it at all, the writing was horrible, it barely had a plot, and it made no sense to the original story.

I went into this blind, and thought it was actually more of a continuance of court of nightmares, and not a separate story. But when I realized it was about the god of death I was excited, cause he intrigued me from the previous book.

The last book was just ok for me. I found it was more smut than plot, but I liked the plot a lot. This story? Had like no plot. It was confusing, I didn't get what was going on, nothing was happening for over half the book. The characters are extremely one dimensional and their personalities change. It was insta-lust straight to insta-love. No tension or buildup. The aspects where they had "issues" or "broke up" was literally over the stupidest reasons, if you even want to call it a reason. The FMC started out strong and determined, and then just turned into nothing. She was magically all of a sudden powerful and cocky. The god of death seemed cold and powerful only to turn into a pile of mush.

The ancient ones seemed like it was gonna be a cool plot point or somewhere for the story to go and it was just so flat, and they did nothing with the storyline.

And the smut was like a fraction of the previous book. Like there was still a lot, but the previous book was like 70% smut and 30% plot. This book was like 10% plot, maybe 40% smut and then 50% nothing.

It's a pass from me. Nothing about this was appealing or worth the read. I should have DNF'ed but I kept having hopes the story would pickup, and it didn't.

"Today, the gods will realize that they cannot control death. It answers to only one master--her."

Oh. My. God! This book!!! Avea, I don't blame you one bit, I'd fold too for the God of Death. Wow. Court of Death was absolutely amazing! If you read Court of Nightmares, you're already familiar with the God of Death, since he had a part in the first book, and when I saw he would have his own book I was literally counting down the days until I could get my hands in it. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I seriously could not stop reading! Anyway, a little bit about the story...

Avea is a mystery even for herself, she doesn't know where she came from and how she ended up in the magical forest that allowed her to stay. She knew she was half vampyr, but she did not know whatever else she was, only that she could feel she was different and had more hiding within her. Throughout the book, she'll discover more and more of her past and finally be able to understand more of who she really is, with the help of someone she never expected to be an ally. Death.

Death is... death. He is called by many names but no one really knows the deeper parts of himself until Avea comes along. After taking care of souls for millennia, Death never imagined there was more to it than his duty. What he always thought was a weakness, emotions, feelings, love, will end up being his greatest strength.

This book was absolutely amazing! I loved every second of it and I was so sad when I finished, I really loved it. I already know I'll be rereading it soon and I can't wait to add this beautiful book to my collection, along with Court of Nightmares, which I highly recommend everyone to read before this one. These are interconnected standalone books but the experience is so much better knowing some of the characters already. I loved it! 5 stars for sure!

I genuinely wish I could eloquently express the profound impact this book had on my mind, body, and soul, but some of those thoughts would be quite inappropriate to share. This story exhibits one of the most exceptional executions I've ever encountered: The narration, dialogues, plotline, overarching theme, and premise are all exceptional.

It adeptly portrays themes of death, sorrow, and the sacrifices made in the name of love. The exploration of supernatural eugenics, or something akin to it, vividly illustrates how societies can enact laws and doctrines driven by fear and misconceptions.

This story was both poetic and incredibly multifaceted. From the captivating plotline to the emotionally charged and profound dialogues, every page left a lasting impact on me.

This story centers around „Avea“, driven by desperation to save a beloved one, she delves into the darkest abyss, seeking aid from an unlikely source: the god of death, the arbiter of eternal judgment.

Known as "Mors," this powerful and glacial deity is not only captivated by Avea's beauty but also intrigued by her mysterious identity and the extraordinary power she exudes. In a departure from his principles, he offers a pact to grant her request, initiating a high-stakes battle of wills where the ultimate goal is to make the other yield first.

“Look at us together, Avea. We are perfect. Light and dark. Life and death. We were meant to be.”

Much like its predecessor, Court of Nightmares, this has absolute top tier for spice.

With tropes such as fated mates, restless gods, vengeance, found family and vampires the book was a page turner and I found myself finishing this in just a few short hours.

I did overall enjoy this more than Court of Nightmares, but again I did find that the “big battle” was over before I barely began. Maybe I’m just used to High Fantasy, with intense and heavily detailed wars/battles. But for me this was my only criticism of this book.

Although Court of Death is not an actual sequel to nightmares, what I did like the subtle hints and cameo appearances of that book.

I know that there are more of these planned, something tells me that they’re all going to be linked subtly until the last one where they may all come together!

The story of court of death was great, but the first book and the third book are 500+ page books so in my opinion I think they’re could of been more to Avea and Mors story. I love that we learned what Avea was but it was mentioned that the Ancient Ones created the Gods, so is that how the God of Death was made — like that could of been explained or touched on more. But, I did love them together because Mors is seen as this horrible god because of death but in reality he is just helping souls cross over to another world and he does it with kindness. Avea who is pretty much left for dead by most people is absolutely ravenous, she was an absolutely BAD BITCH — I just know her and Althea could be besties. But life and death are one just like Avea and Mors.

Not enough stars for how much I loved this book

First off let me say that K.A Knight is one of my favorite authors. She is one of the few authors that I will buy her books without reading them first because I have that much faith in how much I will love it. I swear with each new book of hers that I read they just keep getting better and better. I loved the plot, the characters and spice in this book. Whenever Avea and Mors fought it had me laughing they are so perfect for each other. Such a sweet little love story between two people. One that didn't know he could love and another that always felt she wasn't loved.

yessss

Book two in the series. Loved it to pieces. I laughed and cried and it’s HOTTTTT. Court of nightmares was a completely wild ride with the multiple men to one woman but this is just mf. And I don’t mean it in a bad way it’s just different but still equally as smutty. I love that the judges make an appearance in this book keeping everything together and I can not wait to see what book three is about following the epilogue.

DNF at 34%. It was a push just to get this far, but I allowed all of the positive reviews to keep me going. Unfortunately, this was just so disjointed and felt like so many pieces were missing, that I couldn’t keep going. There was no true world building or explanation of how things worked. Anything given was vague at best and felt as though the only way to get through it was to ‘just go with it.’

This felt less like a fully fleshed out novel and more like some type of fan fiction. With hardly any description, minimal backstory and no clear motivations for each character. It also felt as though both characters’ convictions and personalities were constantly shifting. And not in the way that would indicate that their opinions or thoughts were changing. It felt more like inconsistent writing.

And don’t even get me started on the bizarre sexual things. It wasn’t sexually angsty with a good build-up. It was just twisted and WEIRD. I LOVE a good spicy romance… but the key here is to have ROMANCE. This was just too weird for me. And not worth my time.

Not as good as the first book, but a great follow up.

Court of Death is the second book following Court of Nightmares. It is a SOLID and very well written book. And even though IMO, Court of Nightmares surpasses it, it still manages to be a great follow up book.

**SPOILERS**

Avea has always been different. She exists on the fringes of her court, and all its members look down at her because she’s a hybrid, and therefore lesser in their opinion.

Avea remembers nothing before her emergence in the dark forest. She lived among the “monsters” and animals until a Vampyre named Matteo, “saved her.” He breached the blood ward and brought her into a vampyre court. Avea considers Matteo as her family. He’s her brother and she owes her immortal “life” to him. Although she loves Matteo and his mate phoebe, she is treated horribly by the court vampyre’s (who won’t even feed her) and absolutely humiliated and “tortured” all the time by the court’s Queen who absolutely HATES her. Avea “exists” but doesn’t “live.” She’s sad, lonely and feels like an outcast.

Avea’s “life” is forever changed when Matteo crawls back into his home mortally wounded. His mate is devastated, and although Avea tries to heal him with her magic, the wounds are too great for her to heal. Matteo is dying. Phoebe, Matteo’s mate reminds Avea of the bond that Avea shares with her “brother,” and the fact that Matteo “saved her life” when he “rescued” her from the dark forest. Avea realizes she does indeed owe her brother a debt, and she refuses to watch him die. There is only ONE hope for Matteo. Avea never wanted to return to the forest, or the “palace” where the God of Death resides if he’s worshipped enough, or decides to deign the mortals with his appearance. But she knows that only the God of Death can save her brother. She, Phoebe and a near dead Matteo make it to the alter/throne where Avea is surprised but grateful when she sees that the God of Death is there, sitting on his throne.

The God of Death is bored! His immortality has become mundane and monotonous. He was about to leave his throne in the vampyre world when Avea arrives with Phoebe and her “brother” Matteo who is near death. Avea begs the God of Death to save Matteo, and although Matteo tries to stop her with his dying breaths, he cannot. Avea loves Matteo too much to allow him to die and she strikes a deal with the God of Death. The God of Death is amused, and intrigued for the first time in forever by the brash vampyre, Avea, who can meet his gaze without dying, and approach him without fear. He decides to agree to the deal Avea proposes; ten years of her complete servitude to the God of Death. She will trade her life for Matteo’s, and “take his place.” Once the deal is struck, Avea is whisked off to Mors (the God of Death) home…his “realm.” Mors is certain that his infatuation with this strange little “mortal” will subside, and decides to make the most of his time basically driving Avea crazy. You see, both Avea and Mors are stubborn, powerful, and thoroughly unable to accept “defeat.” What ensues is a “battle” of wits and seduction, from both parties.

So, it was pretty obvious that Avea would win Mors (the God of Death) over. It’s a slooooooow process, but she eventually gains his trust, and ultimately his love. There is the situation with the fact that neither Avea nor Mors know what Avea is. She’s obviously a hybrid, but a hybrid that Mors has never seen before. While their relationship and love grows, they investigate Avea’s origins, trying to figure out “what she is.”

I really loved both Avea and Mors. I truly saw how Avea broke down Mor’s emotional walls and won his heart. These two characters are so well written. They are thoroughly “fleshed out” and absolutely enchanting. You root for them the entire time. The only reason that I gave Court of Death 4 and not 5 stars, is because the great “reveal” of who Avea really is, and the “action” in the book seemed VERY HURRIED.

Due to the fact that the author spends a lot of time on developing Avea’s and Mors characters…”showing” their day-by-day activities and their slow descent into total devotion and love; she doesn’t leave a lot of time to “tie up” some of the MAJOR plot twist that occur in the book. As much as I adored Avea and Mor’s characters, the great reveal of what Avea is, AND the huge battle that follows the discovery of her origins, and her “winning over” the creators of the universe, basically, feels like a RUSH to the “finish line.” I felt as if the author truly needed to finish the book, therefore she slapped together all the major twists and finished the book too quickly. Or at least the twists/issues weren’t given their due. I wasn’t as satisfied with the ending of Court of Death as I was with Court of Nightmares. It just seemed, as I said above, too rushed. However, Court of Death is a solid, entertaining follow up to Court of Nightmares. And you will not be disappointed with Avea and Mor’s characters and their development thorough-out the novel.

The epilogue suggests that the next addition in this series will feature the wolves. I am very eager (will be counting down the days) until the third book is released.

the world building in this series has been so fkn good omggg! and hot damn Mors and Avea were hot hot hot!!! it’s giving very much beauty & the best vibes. one of my fav parts of this book was the development of their relationship. the way we get to seen them grow to love and care for one another. and become so protective over eachother was perfect. they love eachother so hard and would literally die for eachother. i also loved how unlike the first book, this one wasn’t very insta-love. they really worked hard to be where they are, made my heart burst. you could feel their love through the pages of this book, it was so real and raw. they brought out the best in eachother. i loved them.

Avea: she is half mortal/half vampire…but we find out she’s actually more than that, she’s more powerful than she even knows and such a fkn badass! i loved going on this journey with Avea of figuring out who she is and learning to truly love herself. she’s fierce, fearless, strong, confident, intelligent, loyal, stubborn and has such a fiery spirit. when she wants something, she gets it. i loved how she challenges Mors and never puts up with his shit. she truly has a heart of gold and would do anything for the people she loves. i loved her so much!

Mors: the god of death! he really hates everyone but her. she brought this god to his knees. he is soooo fucking soft for her, watching her completely break down his walls was too damn good. he’d do anything for her. he’s obsessive, possessive and protective. he really helped Avea become her true self and loved her through it all. In the previous book Mors comes off as cold & dark but in this book you really see who he is. he truly appreciates the simple things in life. he honored his duty as death and sees beauty in pain. and who knew how kind & understanding he would be. although he was stubborn and arrogant at times, i loved him so much. watching him be vulnerable with Avea was soooo cutie. also…his sense of humor. the god of death is funny asf.

my only complaint again would be the amount of sex that’s in this book. i usually never say that, because the more the merrier but it became very repetitive!

fav quotes🔥📖

“Everything lives and dies. I simply celebrate both. To die, one must have lived, and I live here. The plants die and are reborn; the animals die and their young live on. Even the grass dies, but death doesn’t have to be frightening or gloomy. It can be beautiful. It can transcend time and space. It can mean regrowth and new life.”

“You are more beautiful than the sun shining around you like a lover’s caress. You are everything good in this world, everything people wish they were. Even the moon is jealous of the way the sun caresses your skin. You are the prize and my contest all at once. You are so full of life and laughter that it almost steals every inch of me and makes it yours.”

“I want to feel your fangs buried in me while I’m buried in you. I want you to feast on my blood while I feast on your body. I want to be in you, blood, body, and soul, Avea.”

“Brats get punished; good girls get fucked.”

“You are more beautiful than anything I have ever seen in all my long life.”

“She is my world. She is my reason for being. She is the air in my lungs. She is the sun on my skin. She is the moon that guides me. She is the power that keeps me alive, the food that nourishes me, and the water that heals me. She is everything.”

“I do not want your death, love. I want your life,”

“Every type of love is different, and this is ours—dark and dirty.”

“My devil has been alone for so very long, but he will never be alone again.”

“I would do anything for her. I would die for her. I would kill for her. Most importantly, I will live for her, and as long as this galaxy exists, we will be together—two broken souls finding a home.”

“Our souls are intertwined forever. We are infinite, my god and me.”

“Look at us together, Avea. We are perfect. Light and dark. Life and death. We were meant to be.”

Standalone book two in the Courts and Kings interconnected series. Each book follows a different set of characters and does end with a HEA.

𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰:
After growing up and doing what was required in order to survive inside a secret forest, Avea is rescued by a man who becomes her best friend. Now she’s able to live a fairly normal life… or at least the type of life a half-vampyr has. That is until her friend is on deaths door step, and she is making a deal to save his life in exchange for 10 years indebted to the God of Death himself… in any and every way he may want her.

Mors, the God of Death, is use to being alone. He deals in death and as powerful as he is, no one goes against him… until Avea. Mors has never met someone like Avea and is instantly intrigued by her. He can sense something in her other then just the vampyr she claims to be… but what is it? Having her in his space is proving to be so much more than he ever imagined. What he thought would quickly result in boredom… has quickly become his only obsession.

We got a few glimpses of the God of Death in Court of Nightmares and I’ve been wait for his story since. Avea and Mors were a powerhouse of a couple and not ones to be messed with. Avea was opinionated, feisty and determined. Mors was just as head strong and set in his ways.. after all he’s had thousands of years to get set in his ways. I absolutely loved when these two would go head to head. I love the banter and the push and pull. I also loved how Mors had a bit of naivety when it came to Avea’s world. I really enjoyed watching their relationship change and grow, becoming stronger. As always Katie brings the heat and these two are nothing short of explosive. I’m ensnared by this new world she’s come up with and can’t wait for more!

I had a taste of the god and now I want more. I crave him with a desperation that borders on obsession.

“I know you can take it. That’s it, relax for me. I’m big, baby, but you were made for me,”

“Fuck, look at you. Look at you taking it all. I’m inside every hole. There will not be a place inside of you untouched by me.”

“Your mouth feels too fucking good, Avea,” he growls. “Like a silken fucking vice. Look at you, taking every inch like such a good girl. You truly were made for me, made for me to fuck and use, and you love it, don’t you? I bet you’re wet right now, feeling my cock deep in your throat. You crave my brand of pain, don’t you?”

I have lived since the birth of this world, and nothing has ever meant anything to me until her. There is only Avea. She is my world. She is my reason for being. She is the air in my lungs. She is the sun on my skin. She is the moon that guides me. She is the power that keeps me alive, the food that nourishes me, and the water that heals me. She is everything.

“Remind me that I’m alive, Mors.” “In death’s embrace?” He chuckles. “How fitting.”

Mors’s heart is mine and I want it, so if I must go to war for it, I will, right here in this church of death. I will fight death itself for my god.
