- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2023SINGLE DAD IN A KILT is a standalone read with a happy ending. This is part of a series and if this is your first read, you will not be lost, the story stands alone. Other characters from previous books are explained in an easy way to understand. From a personal part of view, I liked reading from book one to this one because every story is beyond good. This one is no exception. The cover model is great to keep in your head as you read the book. He is yummy. I definitely recommend the whole series as well as this standalone read. The story is set in Scotland.
Afton is returning to her Scotland village after living in Tennessee for the past twp. uears. She left home without saying goodbye or telling anyone where she was going. She left a lot of upset people and broken hearts. She was not sure of the reception she would receive as she had not checked in or tried to get in touch with family and friends. Her best friend, Connor is getting married and with their backgrounds she knew she could not miss the wedding. She would try to make amends while she is home and then she would go from there for the rest of her life.
Hamish, a single dad and a lawyer has always loved Afton, but their situation would prevent that from being. He has a daughter, Freya that is his first priority. The divorce was hard on her in a way but then in other ways it was not that bad. The mother was never a real mother. Her dad has full custody with visiting allowed for the mother. Freya and her mother never see eye to eye. After the divorce Hamish quit the firm, he was working for in the big city, and he moved back to his small village with his childhood friends. It has been an adjustment for him, but he is happier than he has ever been. If he could just have Afton, his life would be complete.
This is the best story. A great love story between the 3 main characters. Freya wants Afton for a mother ad Afton has found the perfect daughter. But somethings just aren't meant to be. This story is filled with love, romance, goats, friends and family. It is a fun read and the best book so far in the series. Of course, I think that after each book. A good read and definitely worth checking out.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer, nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am not a bot. I am a reader, and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 10/17/2023.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2023I have been waiting for Hamish and Afton’s story since reading the set up in Jilting the Kilt. This book did not disappoint. I loved everything about it. The storyline was imaginative, characters lovable and relatable, and the writing addictive. I want to live in this little Scottish town with all my new friends. And the goats. Hamish is a divorced single dad to 12 yo Freya. He is remodeling an old house, working full time as a family lawyer, and trying to raise his daughter who he now has primary custody of. Afton has just returned to her small hometown of Glenlaig after running away 20 months ago from a forced marriage resulting from an antiquated marriage pact and then gambling away her ancestral home. Hamish and Afton have had feelings for each other for years though neither one acted on it. Now Afton is back, feelings have been confessed, but lines have been drawn, and Afton is now the temporary nanny. The way their relationship developed naturally out of sharing time as a pseudo family with Freya as the center made my soft heart melt into happy goo. Freya was such a wonderful and integral addition to the story rather than a flimsy story prop. The story would not have been as rich and well rounded without the full development and inclusion of her character. The journey to Hamish and Afton’s HEA included sweet moments, steamy scenes, chuckles, supportive friends, messy families, painful pasts, healing, and all the heart squeezing love. Plus all the big feels - laughing, crying, swooning, teeth gritting, and cheering. I am so happy there will a new series in this world.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2023So glad to see Hamish get his HEA. If you like 2nd Chance, slow burn, Single Dad angst with the sweetest daughter “parent-trapping,” then Afton and Hamish’s story is for you.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2024This is one of those reads that jus makes you sigh, "ahhhhh" when you finish. Great resolution to the problem that started the series. Loved the crossover not only from characters from this series but also the Eden Ridge crew. Not to mention the steamy love story and the knitting together of a new family. Highly recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2023This romance is one I’ve been eagerly anticipating, and it definitely did not disappoint! I adore these Highland heroes and their strong ladies, but finally, we get Hamish and Afton's story!
And what a story it is! If you’ve been keeping up with this series, you know that Afton and Hamish have a history, with a side of unresolved…something. Now, Afton has returned to Glenlaig and, for Hamish, the timing couldn’t be worse. He's trying to get his family law practice off the ground, renovate an old farm house, and single parent his daughter, Freya. He doesn’t have the bandwidth for anything extra in his overly busy life.
For Afton, returning to Glenlaig is something she always planned to do, but she's rightfully apprehensive about the reception she'll get. Her actions have affected her family, and she has no idea what transpired during her absence. As she’s finding her footing and her place in the family again, while hoping to start her own business, there’s one need she sees that she can fill.
I adore these characters and this series so much, and reading Hamish and Afton's story was better than I ever could have anticipated. At it’s heart, this one is about family, the one you’re born into and the one you make. It's about redemption, second chances, and always being there for the ones you love. It's about mated souls, fulfilling dreams, and love's perfect timing. Charming, sweet, humorous, and heartfelt, this one will have you falling in love with kilted heroes all over again!
