Risky Shot (New York Slammers Book 1) Kindle Edition
I’ve lived and breathed hockey my entire life. As Captain of the New York Slammers, I live my life the way I do on the bench.
Calm and in control.
Getting a top five defenseman wasn’t anything new, until he came strolling into the locker room.
Now, nothing about my life is controlled, and I soon find myself in the fight of my life.
And his.
Asher
Getting traded to New York was never on my bingo card.
A chance to play for the best in the league.
Hockey was my only priority.
But then I met him.
He’s my Captain. He’s off limits.
And I’ve always followed the rules.
Until now.

About the author

Born and raised in New England, Heather Lyn lives in Southern Maine with her husband and son. When she doesn’t have her nose in a book, you can generally find her listening to country music or drinking coffee. Proficient in sarcasm, she enjoys bringing as much life to her books as she can. With a lifelong love of reading and storytelling, she decided to try her hand at self-publishing in 2016, when she released her debut novel.

It's no suprise that I love all of Heather's books. So when I found out that she'd be writing a new book and it was going to be MM romance, I was like YESSSS.
Then I found out it was going to be a series instead of a standalone. I was so excited.
Heather being my all-time favourite author and also my bestie from across the pond she finished writing it and sent me a message saying, "Wanna be reading knox and Ash?" I was like OH MY GOD YESSSSSS.
I literally started reading it straight away, and the prologue had me already tearing up.
Knox and Asher are now my all-time favourite characters. They're both just so damn amazing, and I just love how they started out as friends, then it turned into more.
Knox is the captain of the New York Slammers. He really likes Asher, but he knows he shouldn't. His past boyfriend ended up cheating on him, and he's not been in a relationship since. He was really hurt and never thought he'd ever be in another relationship again.
Asher is drafted to the New York Slammers and is staying in a hotel till he can buy his own place. But after he has a problem with the hotel he's staying at and the paparazzi constantly hounding him, he's stressed out, and Knox notices he ends up telling Asher why don't you move in with me. So he accepts and moves in with him.
Asher and Knox both like eachother alot and they know they shouldn't with being on the same ice hockey team. But the more they both live together the more they can't help having feelings towards one another.
Heather made me laugh out loud, swooning oh so much, saying WOW that's hot as hell, then I was shedding a few tears, having hand on the heart moments, then laughing some more, swooning loads more and then crying sad and then happy tears.
The epilogue was just perfection. Also Rose who's Ashers Gran was the absolute best ever. Reminded me a little of my Gran. I also loved the side characters too and I can't wait for their own books.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 October 2023Oh man! I absolutely fell in love with this couple and the wider cast of characters. Grandma rose totally stole the show during her scenes!
I loved every minute and I really enjoyed the growth between Ash and Knox. Definitely wasn’t expecting that twist in the middle there damn that had my heart in my throat!
I felt everything I laughed I cried I wtf’d and I truly enjoyed every second of this story I just couldn’t put it down!
I cannot wait to see who gets their story told next!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 October 2023This book gripped me from the start and still hasn't let me go.
I have no words.
Knox and Asher were EVERYTHING!
The dynamic of their relationship was so real, sweet, and HOT 🔥
Family, friendship, support, and love.
There were moments when I wanted to cry, laugh, and dive right into the book and live there.
I can't recommend this book enough!!!
A MUST READ 📚

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it 😍
Without giving any spoilers I enjoyed this book. I love the friendships of the team and the 2 main characters. The friendship between them and falling in love omg. I love it. This story had me laughing, crying, and going awe! This book is definitely worth reading. I can’t wait to read more of this series and see what Heather has in store for us with this team.

5.0 out of 5 stars wow
I believe this is my first book from this author & what a emotional one it was. Asher was traded to New York to play hockey but what he didn’t realise was he was about to meet his future. Knox is the captain of the team but is worried he’s at the end of his career until he meets his new teammate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant characters, emotional plot, and so many grammar errors
I will start by saying this really should have trigger warnings in the book/product description. It mentions something about triggers, but the warnings weren't actually listed. There is death mentions, another situation where a pov character nearly dies, and ptsd.
The characters are amazing. You fall in love with them immediately. The story is great with most of the drama coming from outside the main characters relationship, so it's a beautiful story of a supportive and healthy relationship.
The grammar issues are bad though. It's stuff that should've been caught by an editor or beta readers. Missing or wrong words, awkward sentences or descriptions that leave you unsure of what is happening in the scene. Sometimes they pull you out, but in general the story is so good it just keeps pulling you back in.
Definitely worth the read, and I will be looking forward to the next book in the series. I recommend you read it when you have a weekend to devote to it, because I got so wrapped up I ended up late to something 😅

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
A beautifully written love story. Asher and Knox are now teammates. Both are attracted and drawn to the other. After another run-in with paparazzi, Knox invites Asher to stay with him in his home. Soon they are good friends, soon after that they are more . This is their story, the ups and downs to the hea.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet & Spicy
I loved Asher and Knox’s relationship so much. The gradual progression of friends to lovers made my heart warm. I laughed, I cried, I smiled like an idiot and had the best time throughout the whole thing.
