I dove into this series without knowing much, and let me tell you, it completely wrecked me-in the best possible way. It's one of those reads that grips you from the first page and doesn't let go. Rylee's character was everything I didn't know I needed.
She's fierce, resilient, and so beautifully human.
Watching her navigate through trauma and find her strength was such a real, raw experience. I loved how the story didn't shy away from tough topics like therapy and mental health, showing that healing is not only necessary but powerful.
Then there's Colton-broody, intense, and so unapologetically protective. He's a tough exterior hiding layers of vulnerability, and the chemistry between him and Rylee? Absolutely electric. Their connection is soul-deep, filled with tension, yearning, and moments that will have your heart racing. And the fact that he never pressured her into anything? That made their love feel even more genuine. It's the kind of slow-burn that tortures you in the best way, but the payoff is *so* worth it.
But let's talk about the side characters-Mac, with his charming Irish accent and pure heart, is impossible not to fall in love with. He's that golden retriever personality who fiercely loves and protects his found family. And Holly? Her journey through grief and learning to trust again hit me hard. She's a character you'll root for from start to finish.
The story itself is packed with everything-suspense, angst, heartbreak, happiness. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, and just when you think you have it figured out, Emerson hits you with a twist that leaves your jaw on the floor. The found family aspect is beautifully done, and the way the characters grow and evolve is nothing short of amazing.
And if you're a fan of that Robin Hood, Sons of Anarchy, or Ravenhood vibe, then you're going to be completely hooked. It's got all those mysterious, do-gooder, bad-boy moments you crave, but with a fresh, modern twist. Colton and his crew give off that "good guys doing bad things for the right reasons" energy, and it makes the stakes feel so real.
You're constantly questioning who to trust, what secrets are lurking, and how far these characters are willing to go for the people they love.
This series is addictive-an emotional ride with unforgettable characters and a plot that keeps you on edge. If you love a mix of high stakes, deep love, and characters who break and rebuild themselves, this one's for you.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2024“It can take years to heal, and only a moment to break.”
Sometimes you just know from the very first page that a book is going to take your heart & soul and shred them to pieces so slowly that you're going to feel every brutal second of it. You can just feel it in your bones. Yet you're going to keep asking for more because you know that you're going to slowly get stitched back up, even if you lose your hope along the way. You're going to love every second of the pain because the light at the end will be worth it all. The light at the end, will heal your obliteratec heart and shattered soul. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE BOOKS.
Starting from page one, my heart splintered, while being held in a vice grip. But because I was so obsessed with these characters and the world Emmerson created, I couldn't stop reading even though my heart broke more and more with each page. And wow, what an incredibly heart-breaking, absolutely unforgettable and beautiful ride this book turned out to be! I don't think I've cried as much reading any other book as I have reading this one. Emmerson dealt so many heart-wrenching moments that at times it was hard to breathe, at others I just wanted to scream and throw my kindle across the room. But I absolutely devoured this book and loved every single second of it!
Summer Sparrow is the second book in the Jackals and Vipers duet. It is ultimately a journey of hope, heartbreak, and healing. This duet immediately became an instant favorite for me, my top book of the month, and they are some of my top books of the year! I'm absolutely obsessed with this duet and now this author!
Emmerson warned us that Summer Sparrow is a “different beast” and she wasn’t lying. This duet had me in a choke hold from page one of September Doves, but thanks to Summer Sparrow, which amped up the suspense, drama, angst, and mystery. This story has carved a permanent place into my heart and soul. I just finished book two, barely got stitched back together and am already ready to dive back in for a reread. I just want to be back with the characters and in their world. The writing was phenomenal and the characters just felt so real. The only thing I could ask for is more. More of sunshine and tiger. More of them. More of this world. I just want more!

Colton and Rylee Part 2
I have never read a book that has given me so much angst. It literally gave me an emotional rollercoaster that I was not prepared for. There were numerous times where I did not want to finish. My cousin kept telling me to pull through. I am glad I did. If you are reading this review just know that you will get pissed and want to throw things but it will all come together at the end, I promise.
Colton and Rylee are apart for a majority of this book. Rylee went off with her sister Holly to protect themselves from things that are happening all around them. Leaving Colt to do things that he does not want to do but he is protecting every one he loves. This will end up breaking them. They both do things that make you want to throttle them both. The story is full of suspense and a lot of twists that will keep you reading to figure it all out.
We get a few new characters in this book in which I am hoping at some point we will get their story.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2025"He broke our hearts to save our lives."
UGH BOOK TWO - WE GOT BOTH POVs from Colton and Rylee, WHICH IS EVERYTHING WE NEEDED AND MORE. To hear what he was thinking, was LIKE OH MY GOSH. HOT DAMN. Excuse me, but YESSSSSSSSS.
I think it was the best ending to an amazing duology. The writing was just as great as the first one. I just connect with Emmerson's writing and love all the descriptions but the emotions she has you feeling through the words and the thoughts of her characters. There is a main story line going but also a few side plots to happening in the background that all come together so smoothly. This duology is one that I recommend with a few others and wish that I could read it for the first time all over again.
BUY IT. :P

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Perfect Conclusion
I owe Emmerson Hoyt my life after concluding the story of Rylee and Colton. My therapy bills are being sent right to the author.
I was a little nervous going into this, with how the first book ended, and that this book was double the size of the first. I'm a big believer in that sometimes the final book in a duology can go both ways: either rushed or goes too slow.
This book however? It was the perfect amount of longing, angst, hurt, and when they finally reunited? I was punched in the stomach again and again by their hurt and angst but the fact they were like two magnates that couldn't stay away from each other .. just perfect all around.
What I appreciate the most about this duology is that it doesn't feel like it drags on, or even that it is a retelling. Sometimes authors can really hit you on the nose with retellings, but honestly I had to tell myself multiple times this was a Robin Hood retelling cause it was done so well, the perfect hit on the nose with the retelling and the perfect romance story.
Found family has always been one of my favourite tropes, and the Jackals had that. If you're looking for a really good adventurous, tense plot with a great romance story to go along with it? Honestly this is the series for you.
I'm so glad that I signed up for the bookclub reading the first book this month, as it was the easiest 5 star series I've given in a long time.

“I’ll love you until the day I die, Rylee Adder. But I’ll let you go, if that’s what you need.”
Oh em gee I loved this duet! Top read of the year, and I have read 260 books so far. The world Emmerson has created is so captivating that if I could climb through the pages I would live in this world forever. The twists were shocking, the mystery & suspense had me on the edge of my seat. This story is a Robin Hood reimagining and if you loved Ravenhood than this is a must read for you, the story line has a similar vibe of secret groups, stealing from the rich to help the poor. Emerson has made this reimagining her own. She has plotted this story out so incredibly well & I am stunned this is a debut!
The characters are impeccable, each plays an important role in the story. A found family that are loyal to a fault.
Rylee had such growth through this duet. I loved the way her character developed, she became so damn strong, resilient and independent. She knew her worth and she would not settle for less. She fiercely stood up for those who needed it.
Colton, oh my dear Colton. I’m utterly head over heels for this man. I will be his Tiger any day of the week. He has taken my heart. So loyal he broke people’s hearts to protect them, so in love with Rylee he let her become independent and encouraged her to follow her goals. Mac, my sweet giant. I’d love to see a book for him, he deserves all the happiness in the world. Danny, the heartbreak he has suffered is not fair, he rose up and lead with such strength though. I’d love to see a book for him also.
Honestly, I could talk about this duet for hours. I wish I could wipe my memory and go back to read it all over again.
