September Doves: A small-town, enemies-to-lovers romance.
Rylee Adder is a struggling college student desperate to reconnect with the only family she has left. She finally has her chance when a late-night phone call sends her rushing to Eden, West Virginia—a small mining town with a veiled past.
She arrives ready to console her grieving sister, but instead discovers a distant, secretive woman she hardly recognizes, and Colton Archer, a tattoo-covered troublemaker with a knack for pushing her buttons.
As Rylee battles her growing attraction to Colton, who is as infuriating as he is handsome, she comes face-to-face with a shocking discovery that has her questioning everything.
When danger closes in, she must decide what rules she is willing to break for the ones she loves or risk losing them all.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2024Oh my heart!!🥹 Sometimes you just know from the very first page that a book is going to put your heart and soul in a blender, spin them around and wrench them apart and that you’re going to love every second of the pain and keep asking for more…this is one of those books.
“𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐤, 𝐓𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐫.“
Rylee Adder has been through a lot in her twenty-two years and when she receives a mysterious call from her sister that she’s needed she doesn’t hesitate to rush to her side. She heads to the small mining town of Eden, West Virginia, where she finds way more questions than answers and also meets the beautiful and infuriating red flag - Colton Archer.
“𝐒𝐨, 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐟, 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐛𝐚𝐫? 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞, 𝐓𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐫? 𝐎𝐫 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞?“
Rylee is a little broken but smart, feisty, and resilient. Colton is fierce, focused and intense but hiding underneath lies a softness and pain that takes your breath away and cracks your heart when it’s revealed. Although oil and water at first, the magnetic draw and undeniable chemistry between these two results in some of the very best spicy spice!
“𝐒𝐡𝐞’𝐬 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭. 𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲. 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐫.“
“𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲,“ 𝐈 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐥𝐲. “𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭.“
“𝐈 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧.“
Emmerson’s gorgeous writing gives us characters that I immediately fell deeply in love with. With a suspenseful Robin Hood-esque vibe, there are twists, turns, and secrets that will keep you superglued to every page. September Doves is filled with so much angst my heart is still aching.
The found family vibes are perfection and some of the best I’ve ever read! Family, blood or chosen, is the lifeblood of this story.

𝐋𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲.
I really can’t say enough about how phenomenal September Doves is! The writing is so beautifully lyrical; it’s instantly captivating and the people and places feel incredibly real. This is one of those books that made me cry a lot, I mean, a LOT, a lot - actual sobs of pain and heartbreak. But there is epic banter and laughs and so much love! The world that Emmerson has created is deep and meaningful - to be immersed in this world feels like an incredibly special gift and I want to live in it forever.

“𝘐𝘵’𝘴 𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘻𝘺 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘢 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘯, 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘴𝘺𝘮𝘣𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩, 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘳, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴.”
Emmerson Hoyt’s debut novel took me by surprise in the best possible way. From the very first page, I was completely hooked, and by the end, I was left desperate for the next book. Rylee and Colton’s story is a wild ride—full of tension, emotion, and intense chemistry—that had me hanging on every word. The “Robin Hood meets Sons of Anarchy” vibe is undeniable, but it’s so much more than that. The writing has a seamless flow, with vivid characters and a plot that weaves mystery, found family, and heart-wrenching stakes with ease.
Rylee is an unforgettable lead—fiery, strong-willed, and fiercely protective of the people she loves. Sure, she has her naïve moments, but her passion and resilience make her an easy character to root for. Then there’s Colton, the brooding, rough-around-the-edges bad boy with a past that haunts him. He’s not just some stereotypical tough guy—his deep loyalty, vulnerability, and the way he cares for Rylee shine through and make him a standout. Together, they set the pages on fire, both in their moments of tenderness and the smoldering tension between them.
The way the supporting cast is developed is just as compelling. Each character brings something unique to the story—Jack, Danny, Minho, Alex—they all have their moments that pull you deeper into this gritty, found-family dynamic. It’s impossible not to fall for them one by one, as their camaraderie and shared grief are woven into the larger narrative. These relationships aren’t just side notes—they’re integral to what makes this story hit so hard.
And let’s not forget the spice. Hoyt has a knack for writing steamy scenes that feel visceral and genuine without ever being over the top. The connection between Rylee and Colton, especially during the intimate moments, is electric, and it only heightens the emotional stakes as the story unfolds.
“𝘐’𝘮 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘢 𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘵 𝘣𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩.”
Yes, there’s a cliffhanger, and yes, it’ll leave you reeling, but the journey to that point is so satisfying that it’s worth it. If you’re into intense, spicy romances with a side of mystery, found family, and vigilante justice, do yourself a favor—grab this book. You won’t be able to put it down, and like me, you’ll be diving into Summer Sparrow immediately!

- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2025I devoured this so quickly! I think I stayed up until 3 AM one night because I could not put it down. The interplay between the characters is expertly done, and the spice is added in a way that enhances the story.
This will be getting a reread for sure!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2025The way I am in love with all these characters. This is my new roman empire and new fav series. Rylee for starters is a damn spitfire, a lil firecracker, a damn TIGER!! She won't take your shit and will hold her own. The banter between her and Colt is absolutely delicious. And their love is will freaking devour you. I can't even begin to explain how my heart was at my damn throat all through the second book waiting for a certain someone to come to their damn senses. I understood the actions taken completely but they also didn't have to go into it alone. A lone wolf doesn't survive without his pack. Each character in this is so easy to fall in love with and absolutely adore. The way they all truly welcome her in with open arms and respect her. She gained the family she never had with them. "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water in the womb".
My only wish is for an extended epilogue so I can attend a certain party. But I absolutely love the way this ends. Truly an amazing ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars September Doves will forever have my heart.
I was completely swept away by ‘September Doves’! This was such a great story where love blooms amidst the complexities of a morally grey world. The characters, especially Colton the bad boy with a heart of gold, linger long after the final page. A truly memorable read that I’ll cherish!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for fans of small town romantic suspense ❤️
I’ve always wanted to read a reimagining of Robin Hood and I’m so glad I discovered this one! This is an adult contemporary romance, with some dark themes, a lot of family drama and a sizzling romance! It gave me Twilight vibes but spicier, darker, and without the supernatural element.
Rylee comes to the small town of Eden in hopes to help and support her sister, and soon discovers that everyone in this mysterious town seems to be hiding something from her. There are whispers behind her back, odd gang-like behaviour, almost everyone seems to have lost someone… and to top it off, a tattooed badboy who infuriates her as much as he attracts her. The combination of suspense with a slow burn romance is so addictive!

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book!
“You fit in here, with us.”
September Doves had me from the beginning. The Robin Hood reimagining was done well and
I love a small town where everyone knows everyone so immediately I was right at home with this book.
I loved the characters; Rylee didn’t disappoint, I felt for her with all the secrets flying around this town! Colt, the tattooed bad boy and his morally grey brothers, ah they were all great. Colt is an add to the list of book boyfriends character. The enemies to lovers also made for great banter.
While the banter is brilliant, I’d keep those tissues handy too. Colt and his brothers are part of the Jackals and this found family throws out all the emotional feels 😢 I loved learning a bit about the backstory when it comes to the Jackals and am so keen to know more.
I did get some slight Flock vibes from this book but the characters and the found family were so much nicer in September Doves.
Highly recommend and can not wait for book 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfetto per i fan di small town romance e romantic suspense
The beginning of the story hooked me immediately. I was intrigued by Holly’s disappearance—and sudden distressed reappearance when she begs Rylee to come to Eden because her husband Jeremy untimely end. My mind immediately starts going in investigation mode. However, once we arrived in Eden, it’s not Holly that held my interest, but the Jackals. Colton, Danny and Minho were all amazing and my favorite part about the story altogether. I loved the brotherly bond between them, and of course I was intrigued to find out more about them and the Jackals. As for Holly, she irritated me most times—though things are revealed later that explain her attitude. I loved the small-town atmosphere and enjoyed Rylee and Colton’s dynamic.
--
