Let me just say up front, there’s no way I’ll do this book justice. If you’re at all a fan of this gifted wordsmith, you know we've all been eagerly anticipating this story. The kids from the Nanny Love Match Series are all grown up, and our favorite nanny matchmaker Madelyn Malone is still showing up in Denver. You didn’t think she'd leave the kids completely to their own devices, did you?
And if anyone needs an intervention, it's Sebastian Cress. He's taken the title of sexiest man on the internet to heart and has been busy living the life of the rich and famous while surrounded by hoards of women. Ugh!
See? This is why I wasn’t sure about a grown-up Sebastian! I wanted that sweet little boy who followed Phoebe, “Princess of the Hot Dog Fairies, Bearer of Cookies, and Eater of Pizza,” around blindly and conspired with the kids to give love a nudge when their adults needed it. But I quickly saw the error of my ways and was falling for Sebastian 2.0 in no time at all.
Phoebe, bless her heart, is still all Phoebe. Her love of hot dogs is now legendary, especially since she created an app to help people in the city find their favorite food trucks. Except her app has somehow managed to help people find their soul mate in the process. Between that and having Gale for a last name, Phoebe is well-known, which also makes her a target for unscrupulous tech start-up wannabes. Cue: Jeremy, the man-bun-sporting poser she’s currently dating.
Phoebe may be all that and a bag of chips when it comes to designing apps, but when it comes to picking boyfriends, it’s one 404 error after another. When the chance to showcase her app for girls in technology arises, Phoebe is determined to get it right. But our nerdy, brainy, socially awkward Phoebe knows she needs to make over, well, everything about herself, so she turns to her friend Sebastian for help. And he guarantees he can get her app in front of investors and acquire the start-up funds she needs.
The comedic timing and talent of Carol Burnett couldn’t have written this story any better. It's ridiculous, zany, outrageous, slapstick, and so much darn fun! But amidst all the frivolity is two young people finding their way, experiencing growing pains, learning what really matters, and finally acknowledging what has been in front of them all along.
Phoebe gets some touching, inspirational validation, Sebastian finds his place in the world next to his favorite person, girl power gets its due when a truly amazing idea comes to fruition, and the man bun gets put in its much-deserved place.
Hilarious and light-hearted but poignant and provocative, this charming, heartfelt, delightful read is my favorite of Sandor's so far and one of my top five reads this year. But will things change again when Phoebe learns the truth about why Sebastian agreed to help her? I adored this funny, sweet, and perfectly steamy story. Phoebe and Sebastian were obviously in love with each other from the start, but I understood why they fought their feelings for so long. I was rooting for them from the very first page and couldn't wait to find out how they'd overcome the obstacles standing in their way. The cameos from their friends and family, who were featured in the earlier Nanny Love Match series, were a ton of fun too. I loved that they were still such good friends, and that the kids used the foot taps in place of swear words even as adults!I highly recommend "The Sebastian Guarantee" for all fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy. After the hints of what's to come that were included in this book's epilogue, I can't wait to get my hands on the next book of the series.
