AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE!
This reader has read everything VF Mason has written and Octavius Reed’s story is not only powerful and at the same time heartbreaking; it is a story of love, friendship, right and wrong and emotions. This 3rd installment of the “FOUR DARK HORSEMEN” is an incredible ride. The childhood friendship of these men, their blood oath, their complexities, warmth and undying loyalty is palpable in her words. In each book we learn more about the boys’ tragic pain, support and love for and of each other. Physically scarred, Octavius decided never to marry or fall in love. His Oath. And then he meets Isla Evans, PI and former police officer. Her background story, of which she is totally unaware, has overlapped with Octavius and the others, Santiago, Remi and Florian when she was 15 and watched her family brutally murdered by the “Church Killer”. There is a mystery there which readers get peaks of from her Elsa’s late mother’s diary. Isla believes that Octavius holds the key to the killer’s identity. He does and he doesn’t. Readers know that anytime the Dark 4 step foot in a Church, Octavius always has a Whiskey bottle from which he drinks. We will learn why. The FOUR were involved in something when they were 18., which strengthened their bond. It was video recorded and that video has been sent to the FOUR with Isla’s name attached. Did she send it? In fact, many questions get answered and this reader/reviewer will NOT share. Parts of this book are incredibly hard to read, so note the warnings before starting. This is one readers will be NOT be able to put down. Plus we get insight into the last of the series, Florian and Santiago’s sister Jemina’s book.
This reader is a huge fan of Ms Mason’s writing style and series. While one doesn’t necessarily need to read all of her books…. Although honestly, why not? Definitely read the Horsemen in order. Some of REMI’S WAR , overlaps with Octavius,’ literally. These 4 besties are blessed to have each other and that is noted also. They stand as a unit and will protect each other, unconditionally and each other’s families. They are truly brothers. And the hunt for the ‘Church Killer’ simply tightens their bonds. Does Octavius, who believes himself to be undeserving of happiness due to his physical scars and is he capable of accepting love when freely offered. Can Isla, who believes in a strong moral code regarding THE LAW, accept the Four, their wives, her bestie Giselle (Callum’s book), and Octavius? Trying NOT to give anything away re the twists and turns which are incredible and many..….this is a must read and reread. Readers will NOT be disappointed. 10 Stars at least.
