Cruel Crypts (Gods of Hatherley Hall Book 1) Kindle Edition
Knox Ashcroft. One of the so-called gods of Hatherley Hall. He’s everything I despise–a spoiled, arrogant, lacrosse-playing rich boy.
From the moment we met, he made it clear that the loathing was mutual. I don’t belong in his world, and he wants me gone.
Too bad for him, I’m not leaving until I get what I came for.
Everyone has skeletons in the closet, right?
I’ll uncover his.
I just have to make sure he doesn’t discover mine.
Cruel Crypts is the first book in the Gods of Hatherley Hall series, and is a standalone M/F new adult academy romance with enemies to lovers themes.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2025I'm not going to get specific, no spoilers. This book is so well written. It doesn't drag on with a bunch of useless filler, fluff stuff. Couldn't put it down. Read it in a day. Becca is an amazing writer. I feel like I've read half of her books already. Getting ready to open Roman now. Happy reading :)
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2024This books has a little bit of everything. It is an enemies to lovers story. With a bit of mystery along the way and the way Becca is able to tie everything together is just wow.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2023This is book one of a new series that won’t disappoint. This is a standalone but will be interconnected with the rest of the series. I was pleasantly surprised to see a few characters from Becca Steele’s “The Four” series play a part or mentioned.
I loved that Knox is a morally grey hero. Forever the bad boy image, but with a heart of gold…way deep down. I loved that Elena was the one who got to see and eventually experience that heart of gold. What turned out as enemies with secrets and telling lies, turned out to be an epic adventure in finding love.
My heart went out to Elena with all she experienced growing up and dealt with in her present. I love that as she started unraveling the mystery for the truth, she realized what side she needed to be on and stood her ground. I loved her feisty, strong, independent and sassy spirit. She was perfect for Knox.
I love that Knox was protective over his family and friends. I love that even though he didn’t like or trust her, he was determined to find out Elena’s secrets, and also make sure she was his. I loved all the little things he did to help her learn and be able to not struggle like she was used to.
I loved Knox’s parents and their meddling. It was great to see the wealthy parents encourage their child to not worry about what others think. The fact that they encouraged and support Knox, they could also still embarrass him. The fact that they both loved Elena from the start, made me love them even more.
I’m so excited to read the rest of this series and meet the strong and sassy women who will bring the rest of the Gods to their knees.
I received an advanced readers copy via Wordsmith Publicity. These thoughts and opinions are my own and left voluntarily after reading for my own personal enjoyment.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2024I liked this book! It had a little bit of everything. Not so much dark but had some decent elements of it. I liked the alphaness and the heat. Boy oh BOY the heat was plentiful and descriptive. 🥵😮💨 That isn’t even the whole of it.
We had a good who dun it story as well a fully developed cast of side characters, setting us up for book two.
All in all a flew through this book, kept my attention from beginning to end. Just needed a bit…more…of the “dark-bully” side.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2023So many ups and downs in this book Elena went in looking for revenge for something we didn’t know of with her mom in the process she started to like her enemy. Knox was a jerk and he couldn’t help his feeling for his enemy either they couldn’t keep to themselves they angry likes each other for a long while. Elena learned she no longer wanted revenge she wanted peace and to be with the man she learned to enjoy over the month but things aren’t so easy. The plot twist in this story blew me away! Wow 😯 and it was so good! I loved the way the flow of the book went. It maybe could have been just a few chapters shorter but I know the author wanted to make sure we got everything and the characters got their points across well I enjoyed it very much. I’m hoping we will get Tristan and Romans books next.

Cruel Crypts is book 1 of the Gods of Hatherley Hall series. This book follows Elena and Knox's story. Knox did not like Elena because she is supposedly hindering him for having an amazing senior year. Elena is supposed to not like Knox and his family at all -- there is a reason for it and it will be revealed as you read the book.
The character developments in this book was perfection! With the guidance of Knox's parents, they were able to salvage their relationship even though it was sort of doomed from the beginning. One of my favorite about this story is that, although they hated each other, they were honest as much as they could to one another.
The plot twist was not something I could guess but it completely make sense when everything was revealed. Knox's nickname for Elena was my little liar, which is supposed to be an insult but it ended up being endearing.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2024It was nice enemies to lovers story, definitely a YA book, but it seemed like it was easing its way into what could be a dark romance. While I find the turn in the book completely unrealistic as far as everyone just forgiving Elena the way they did, it was a nice ride. I just wished it didn’t happen on such a short timeline, I think that’s what makes it unrealistic to me. But I recommend it and will be be reading Roman’s story next.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2023Elena and Knox were definitely enemies at first sight. Knox wasn’t looking for anyone to disrupt his plans, and Elena was just trying to get revenge for her family. I will say that I found the chemistry and tension between these captivating. There was a lot of secrets and angst as well, and I enjoyed uncovering all of the missing pieces. Overall, I did enjoy this read, and I’m definitely looking forward to getting Tristan and Roman’s stories as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This starts off as enemies-to-lovers with chemistry flying so not heavy on the enemy which to be honest is refreshing. Knox is a total sweetheart beneath his exterior and as Elena's story slowly comes forward, we see how much she deserves some sweet. Some great twists and the start to another awesome series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Low angst read
It was kinda ok, not much angst and bully. A straightforward read with hate to love vibes, but insta-everything. Something to read between heavy reads.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Enemies to Lovers Romance
A good enemies-to-lovers romance. When you meet Knox, initially, he does come across as the typical rich boy.
Elena was a strong character, and straight away, we realised she and her mother were hiding something.
Knox didn't like the fact Elena was there messing up his plans for senior year, but realising she was hiding something, he was determined to get to the bottom of it.
Everything that Knox did, Elena didn't back down, and I liked her character for that. Despite his annoyance, Knox was actually a pretty caring guy. His family meant a lot to him, and he wasn't going to let anyone hurt them.
I liked the fact that despite knowing Elena was hiding something, he was falling for her anyway. It was a fairly fast-paced story. These two characters had chemistry, and the animosity between them made it hotter. The fact they kept denying what they meant to each other had me chuckling.
The level of suspense in the story was good, and the storyline kept me interested. Overall, it was a well written book that I found enjoyable. I'm looking forward to the next one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cruelty, crypts and compassion
It was a good story. Elena and Knox clashed from their first meeting but all their encounters were surrounded with sexual tension. Knox could sense deceit on Elena and she was filled with guilt. After everything came to light, with no more secrets between them, they were able to be honest with themselves and their feeling for each other.
