Editorial Reviews

Review

"I knew this book was gonna be good, but this book shot to the top of my book of the year list. It wasn't what I expected it to be like. It was better." - Donna, Goodreads

"Alison Rhymes is a fantastic author who can connect emotionally with her readers and create every reaction in them as they experience her books. Rainfall is no different. She has perfectly blended sport, love, betrayal, heartache, and forgiveness to create a superb story. I loved it." - Stacey, Goodreads

"Full of betrayal, secrets, heartbreak, forgiveness, heat, and love, Rainfall was an absolute angsty and emotional masterpiece. Isla and Cillian's journey is difficult, and you will feel all the heart-wrenching emotions, but their journey is also uplifting. I loved the complexity of their story, and I am so excited to see what's next in this series." - Amy, Goodreads

"The characters were complex, and their stories were heartbreaking and believable." - Sassy Southern Book Blog

"This is an incredible start to this series and I cannot wait to see what story comes next. I'll be thinking about this one for a while and it has definitely become my new favorite Alison Rhymes' book." - Tammy, Goodreads

"I don't even know where to start with this one. There is so much. Rainfall literally has all of my favorite tropes in the romance genre, from sports friends to lovers, betrayal, secret baby, second chances!!" - Shelby Grenz Winckler, Goodreads

"You'll need tissues. And a soft spot to throw your iPad or tablet or however you read this one. And you'll also need a few hours and a comfy spot because no matter the emotion, you will NOT want to stop reading until everything is answered." - Jenn the Readaholic, Goodreads

"The back and forth between Cillian and Isla was tough to read. The animosity and hatred between these two was intense; just as intense as the love they once held for each other." - Shannan, Goodreads

"I really enjoy Rhymes' evolution of forgiveness with all the aches and pains of making peace with choices made. The author's writing is engaging, easy to read, and captures emotional rawness so beautifully." - Evie_Book_Revs *Evie Book Reviews*

"This is a story of being careful who you trust, independence, growth, and loyalty. This is also a lesson in redemption and second chances; being open to vulnerability again and trusting not only in yourself, but your heart." - Kimmypins, Goodreads

"My relationship with Alison Rhymes' books is a real mix of love and hate. Every new novel makes me stress about reading it, knowing that I'll probably end up loving it." - Chantale St-Gelais

Such a strong FMC
🏒Rainfall🏒The tension and heartache is this one is insane! I absolutely adore Isla, and think she’s so freaking strong for enduring everything she did. I will say I never truly got over the way Killian hurt Isla, even though I know he wasn’t the sole person responsible it still was hard to forgive him.Killian has been the only one Isla has ever loved, but when he left for the pros and broke her heart she kept something from him that would change his world. Now he’s back in town and playing on her dad’s team, and when he discovers her secret the hatred they both feel for each other is palpable.🏒Hockey romance🏒Second chance🏒Accidental/secret pregnancy🏒Angsty

I must admit cheating in a book is a big no for me, but if is well written and the characters behaviour is something I can understand or relate to I’ll give it a try.

Cillian and Ilsa were together for three years by the time he was offered a contract with and NHL team. At 19 they were both young enough to have dreams about the future and believe in their love. Sadly as soon as he left Cillian started to let fame and other distractions get in the way of his relationship. Love was never a problem for them, trust and honesty were. They both made mistakes, it ended in them not speaking for five years, despite the fact that they became parents.

So this is where it gets hard, because as much as I understood Ilsa, not trying harder to tell him he’s become a father is not something I condone.

The actual story is them trying to co-parent while trying to forgive each other for the mistakes they made, while not so secretly still harbouring feeling for each other.

Truth be told, had they not been so young when everything happened would have made it harder to love this book as much. I loved that the blame was mutual and both accepted easily their part in their fallout. He could have tried to live in denial a little bit more, but they knew each other well  enough to accept the mistakes they made. It’s a perfect story about love and forgiveness, I loved the story more than I expected to. I’m looking forward to read the next book in this hockey series.

So I was scanning the part on kindle where it says books you might like or something along those lines and I saw this book. I pressed on it, read the description, saw “Five years after, he’s back. And he’s meeting his daughter for the first time.” Saw secret baby trope and dived head first into it!!!

Isla and Cillian became best friends at 10 while he was at a hockey camp ran by Isla’s dad. At 16 they fell in love. At 19 he got drafted into the NHL and left for Boston. They tried to make the long distance work but things and people got in the way! He was young and new to fame. She was heartbroken and stubborn so she did the only thing she could do after finding out she was pregnant…she tried calling to tell him only to be hung up on by a girl in his bed!

Oh my, those first 3 chapters were pure emotion. I cried like a baby for Isla and wanted to punch Cillian and Trina in the throat! I’ve never read a book with on page cheating but Alison wrote it so beautifully! There was so much anger and hurt and you just felt it all! When Cillian gets traded to Seattle and he’s back and finds everything out, the new level of anger and hurt and betrayal was just another level! Isla had such resentment towards him and held so much anger, but so did Cill for not knowing about Sadie all those years! I loved Isla! She was such was such a fiesty, strong willed FMC, and saddle, just so adorable! Also, this was the first book I’ve read that had a chapter from the child’s point of view and I loved it!!!I will definitely be reading more by Alison!

I never thought I would like a book in which there was cheating but the way this author handled it and the circumstances surrounding it, made it acceptable and actually was part of the story. True, in the beginning the MMC was wrong, but he was a somewhat immature19, was caught up in playing pro hockey on the other side of the country from the FMC, his girlfriend and his love, and in a sense was overwhelmed. For all those who still would have no understanding for the MMC, I am sure not giving him a pass, but what I am saying is although he was weak and very foolish, I know too many young people (including myself at that age) that made some wrong choices. Best thing though is he really turns himself around and makes up for it. And, there is a wonderful HEA and epilogue. Very good writing that moved right along, holding my interest and realistic characters facing real life that is sometimes messy. The secret, the key is—- do they (we) learn from our mistakes to never put ourselves in that position again and never make that same mistake? In this really good story, they do learn and grow. Very enjoyable book.

Good story, new author for me but I really enjoyed it. Listened on audible - well narrated too. A bit of angst, but also good series starter, introducing us to different characters that will appear in future books. Looking forward to book 2.

    Love it!

Firstly, absolutely enjoyed this book. It definitely met all my boxes for what I was in the mood for and im looking forward to seeing if the Author has more. This is also a first time read of hers for me.

Loved the characters. I enjoyed their banter and chemistry. I would have liked to have had more of a build up of their relationship to really connect with them. I think because of that the impact of what the MMC did wasn’t as heartbreaking for me, but I still enjoyed the story. This had twists I did not see coming. I also liked how they navigated coming back together and how the drama seemed to lurk in the background until the very end.

A little more drama would have been nice also but this was still a great read.
