Bad Boys of Bardstown #1

You Beautiful Thing, You

Rate this book
Nineteen-year-old Tempest Jackson wants a baby.

No, her biological clock isn’t ticking, but she’s desperate for unconditional love. Rejected by all except her brother and soon to be married off by her father for financial gain, she aches for someone to hold close and call hers.

Enter Ledger Thorne. Soccer god, devastatingly handsome and her brother’s rival.

Once upon a time they had a thing. A beautiful thing. But while Tempest thought she was madly in love, Ledger was only using her for petty revenge.

So Tempest has a plan: seduce the sexy jerk who broke her heart, use him to get pregnant and then leave him in the dust like he left her, to marry a stranger.

Only the problem with making babies is that it doesn’t feel like revenge. It feels a lot like that thing they used to have: Hot and stormy, and intense and intimate.

But Tempest isn’t a fool. She’ll stick to the plan.

Because wasn’t it Ledger who turned their beautiful thing into something ugly?
Now it’s her turn…

NOTE: This is a STANDALONE set in the world of Bardstown, a St. Mary’s Rebels spin-off.

I'm getting a strange sense of deja vu 💀.

I feel like I start every single one of these reviews for SAK's most recent books by saying that I wanted to like them 😭. Because trust me, with this one in particular, I really really did.

Because let me tell you- ever since Tempest & Ledger had been introduced back in 2020, I have been WAITING for their book. And I was even more excited because of their cameo in Wyn and Conrad's book.

So to end up being overall disappointed actually sucks. I felt like this couple had SO much potential, and so so so much to give but they just...didn't?

Anyways 💀 This review is going to borderline be a therapeutic rant for me, so don't mind me 😍.

-=-

I'll split this up into my main issues with it:
※ Inconsistent angst/ conflict
※ Lack of respect & chemistry
※ The nonexistent dialogue 😭

One of my biggest problems was just how inconsistent and irrelevant the conflicts in this book felt. It went from Tempest wanting to get revenge on Ledger by getting pregnant (we're not even going to get into how stupid this is), to him apparently breaking her heart when they were younger, to her father getting involved and her getting married.

Why not just pick one? Everything just felt so messy because of it. This to me also ties heavily in with the writing. It's hard to take a conflict seriously when you literally don't get to experience it. We're TOLD that Ledger broke Tempest's heart, and we're TOLD that she loved him, and we're TOLD that they had this undeniable chemistry in the past- but we literally don't SEE it.

Yes, we get a chapter or two in the beginning, but that doesn't make up for the hundreds worth of pages after that. You can't base such a big plot point around an undeveloped conflict.

And I specifically use the word undeveloped because (tying this back to what I said earlier about being excited to read about this couple), their angst was inconsistent. In Conrad and Wyn's book, there was specifically a scene where Ledger tells Wyn that Tempest means nothing to him, where she overhears and runs off. I was SO excited to see that scene being addressed in this book, and was one of the main reasons that I rushed to read this in the first place:

(extract from These Thorn Kisses):
[“What about her?”
“I thought… she was important to you. I mean, the way you were pretending to not stare at her and —”
“Tempest is nothing.”
...I notice movement behind Ledger’s shoulders.
A flash of dark hair and stricken gray eyes.
Tempest.
She’s standing at the kitchen threshold and from the looks of it, she heard everything. When she spins around and leaves, my heart twists for her, for the disdain and rejection she must’ve heard in Ledger’s voice. ]

So colour me surprised when the above scene wasn't ever addressed- and that it apparently just didn't happen anymore. 😐 It would've made for some really nice angst, but it was just written off.

-=-

The next thing that absolutely baffled me about this book was the lack of respect that Ledger showed to Tempest, with not nearly enough grovelling to compensate for it. I won't talk a lot about it, but the way that he cut Tempest off was simultaneously hilarious and frustrating because I'm not even joking she barely got a full sentence out. And anything she did get out was usually just her parroting back what he said to her, the dialogue literally went this isn't real :

“I want a baby.”
“A baby.”
“Yours.”
“Mine.”
“I want—”
“A baby.”
“You remind me of a bug.”
“A bug?”
“Because you won't shut up.”

I wrote that and no it wasn't an extract from the book but it damn well could be 💀. I don't think they truly had one meaningful conversation in the book where Ledger didn't either tell her to shut up or stop talking 💀☝️, cut her off, or just truly listen. This was shocking to me, because it was written as if that was just his personality, and tried to play it off as being possessive- but you can be possessive and still respect the supposed love of your life BYE.

And what made it even worse to me was the fact that Tempest DIDN'T CARE. She just took it in the name of him being misunderstood 🥺👉👈. That is a grown-ass man.

I was so excited to read about her character because she was always portrayed as being this hothead who knew what she wanted- but the way that she let this man walk all over her was crazy. I get caring for someone, but to justify their shit behaviour to such an extent, and accept such half-assed apologies was wild. Just so I don't seem like I'm pulling words out of my ass, here's some of their literal dialogue:

“I think you need to shut up now.”
I jerk back, offended. “What?”
“Because I think if I let you talk any longer, you’re going to put me to
sleep.” I gasp but he keeps going, “And then this big fat boner that I’ve had
ever since we sat down in the tub would just go to waste.”
“That’s very —”
“And then where will your poor little cum-hungry pussy be?”

This ties into one of the points above about the lack of proper dialogue between the two- because I genuinely feel like there was no progress made in this relationship. There was just so much filler in the form of inner monologues. I'm reaching my breaking point.

-=-

The next thing I wanted to comment on 💀, and felt weird to me was the timing. For example, the pregnancy, which is arguably the biggest part of the book: we go from Tempest getting her period and finding out she isn't pregnant and being absolutely gutted to an immediate one-month time jump to her holding the positive pregnancy test- and mind you this wasn't even a chapter later 😭. The timing of the book felt really random and abrupt.

The reason I chose to mention this was that the timing really messed with the grovelling, in particular with the side characters (I'm looking at you, Reed). When he (Tempest's brother) finds out about the pregnancy he really emotionally hurts her, and we never see him apologize, but instead are just told that he does and that she forgives him 😐🥺.

-=-

In terms of the smut 💀☝️ I'm not going to say anything but just know the line about '✨life-giving cum✨' was somehow worse than baby batter and I didn't know that was possible.

-=-

In terms of the characters Ledger really caught me off guard. Off-topic but what was his obsession with saying 'horndog.'

IM CRYING. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

His dialogue actually left me on the floor because what was he yapping on about. I just could not connect at all with his character. His whole persona was centred around being 'possessive' and 'angry' but that was literally it. He felt strangely 2D to me in a way that I haven't felt about any of SAK's other heroes.

In relation to Tempest, I don't even know. The lack of self-preservation was shocking 😭. I'm not even going to expand on that.

-=-

Overall 😭 I don't know what to say. SAK has no joke written two of my favourite books of all time, so it's not like I don't like her writing and am reading this book for the funsies- but she has officially lost the plot 💀. The whole concept of pregnancy for revenge (mind you this is coming from someone who loves the pregnancy/ breeding trope) was crazy to me, and was equally as crazy as to how it was handled. Overall this was wild.

From the lack of grovelling to disrespect, to lack of self-respect, and just overall ridiculous behaviour, I'm out.

I do have to say, that the last chapter of the book was so sweet, and was literally everything that I was looking for with this story. I was expecting relevant angst, some strong characters, a LOT of comfort care and more, but we just didn't get that.

I have so much more to say but for my sanity, I'm going to stop there.

I don't understand this!!!!! You know the style of the author, you know what her heroes are, you read the annotation and you didn't like it - DON'T READ THE BOOK! Why waste your time, take an ARC, just to give 1 star to a book. There are many books for different tastes, find good books for yourself, read them and enjoy. You are on goodreads, after reading the reviews, you can always find a book suitable for you, with heroes that you like!!!!

Look me in the fucking eyes and tell me you understood one goddamn word ledger or tempest said in this book.

Also if I had to read this sex scene then so do you. ⬇️

.. You did. You do. I don’t want you to go a-away,” I whisper, clutching his hair now.
“I guess I can’t anyway,” he says in between kisses. “You’re fucking stuck on my dick.”
I am.
Stuck and pinned.
Trapped.
And while I feel another wave of pain coming in, I still can’t help”

“but smile through my tears. “It’s because I’m a Firefly.”
He looks up, his tormented eyes flashing with possession, his dick throbbing even harder inside of me. “Yeah, you are.”
“Your Lovelorn Firefly.”
“My Lovelorn Firefly.”
“And you’re my Beautiful Thorn.”
“I am.”
“So then,” I adjust my lower body, trying to ease up the pain, “m-make it fit.”

“His cock throbs and pulses inside my slick and swollen channel.
As it fills me with his cum.
Fills me and fills me with his life-giving cum.
Fills me to the point that I feel it overflowing, smearing my thighs, the sheets. And I close my eyes and pray. I pray that despite everything, it takes root. It latches on inside of me and gives me a piece of him.
Of the guy made of thorns and thunder.”

.

“Especially where my belly button is.
Something tight and swollen.
Something that can be called an orgasm.
Only this isn’t mild like the orgasms that I’ve given myself in the past. Or ordinary.
This is something else.
A thunderstorm. A hurricane.
A bright flash of falling stars.”.

i was “lucky” to get a arc. the blurb sounded strange, but i thought, hey i can’t be that bad.
spoiler, it was THAT bad.

there will be spoilers throughout my review. so if you don't want to be spoiled, stop here now.

we're 5% into the story and he's already saying that:

“𝖳𝗁𝖾𝗋𝖾’𝗌 𝗉𝗅𝖾𝗇𝗍𝗒 𝗈𝖿 𝗆𝖾 𝗍𝗈 𝗀𝗈 𝖺𝗋𝗈𝗎𝗇𝖽. 𝖠𝗇𝖽 𝗒𝗈𝗎 𝖼𝖺𝗇 𝗁𝖺𝗏𝖾 𝖺 𝗍𝖺𝗌𝗍𝖾 𝗈𝗇𝖼𝖾 𝖨’𝗆 𝖽𝗈𝗇𝖾 𝗐𝗂𝗍𝗁 𝗁𝖾𝗋.”

what a perfect way to start the book, i was already starting to hate it at this point.

their relationship was super weird at the beginning and it doesn't get any better. they're so annoying. i’m sorry, but i hate them so damn much.

the way they both act childish, he doesn't even want to share the cupcakes she bakes for his sister and her husband (fmc’s brother/rival of mmc).

i mean are you kidding me?

she can't even say "pussy" or "dick/cock", she prefers to say "package down there"..

girl, you are nineteen years old, you are literally acting like a child, stop being so embarrassing
also her strange obsession with being a mother??
i get it, you have a crappy family and want to give your child a better childhood to heal your inner child too, but wait until you're older and don't choose the worst guy as a father!!?

hmm, you think?
well i think that’s exactly how you treat someone.
if a guy would treat me like that i would dump his ugly ass IMMEDIATELY!

i could mention so many scenes that show how disgusting he is, but i’m tired of him and i don't want to think about him anymore.

i seriously cannot recommend this book to anyone, not even my worst enemy.

DNF at 30%. This is just not my jam. It’s wordy. Young. Repetitive. And it’s bully romance. I was expecting enemies to lovers, but that’s not what this is. Where is the romance? I don’t feel it. Not for me unfortunately.

I was given this book via eARC, and as always I will be giving my HONEST review because I don't believe in sugar coating.

This book was NOT for me. I mean, there were points where I flailed my arms in defeat and was ready to put the book down and stop, but I always try and give books the benefit of the doubt and try to redeem themselves. In this case, I really wish I just stopped reading.

This review will 100% contain spoilers because i feel the need to share with everyone what I just read. I took time out of my day to read this so you don't have to and personally, I would not recommend it. I'm not trying to be rude, but this book was SO HARD to get into. We start off with a young 16-year old Tempest who falls in love w her brothers nemesis, Ledger, who is his soccer teams captain. Then she proceeds to stalk him for a week and when he wants to use her as revenge on her brother, she decides to stop loving him... AFTER A WEEK OF STALKING HIM. Fast forward three years later and we find out that she never got over him. IN FACT, everyday she would message him or call him and fill him in on her life JUST in case ONE DAY he finally would let her in and say he loves her. We also find out that Ledger's sister Callie is also Tempest's best friend (and god she won't ever let you forget it with the amount of times she uses BFF in the book). And his sister is ALSO married to Tempest's brother Reed.

There are a million plotlines in this book going from wanting a baby with Ledger as a revenge plot (at 19 may I add.. like girl c'mon, you want a baby at 19 just because your best friend just had a baby - serious FOMO), to fake marriage to a horrible father using his daughter for financial gain. Let's also not forget that this whole time we're dealing with Ledger and his HORRIBLE possessive attitude. This man got suspended from his team for punching someone and has to go to anger management therapy but to him its the END OF THE WORLD. Like we all can enjoy a good possessive man once and a while but Ledger takes it to the EXTREME. Like sorry bud but not EVERY MAN is looking at your pregnant girlfriend. OH and i forgot to mention at one point in the book after Tempest gets pregnant (with twins) he has her sign all these documents INCLUDING A MARRIAGE LICENCE that she doesn't even know about. They're married for a whole damn quarter of the book and she doesn't find out until the last act during HER WEDDING TO ANOTHER MAN!!!! And how does she find out? Oh because Ledger is fucking her in front of a window for the whole wedding party to see and then he confesses that she's his wife and then proceeds to beat up her father and her fake fiance.

Another negative is BABIES DO NOT DESERVE DIALOGUE. If I have to read "goo pah pah" ONE MORE TIME IM GOING TO LOSE IT!!! I have a whole notes document on all of the crazy messed up shit that happens in this book but I'll spare you all the details.

This whole book is a headache. I did NOT expect this from this book and I don't think I'll be reading anything else from this author.

AGAIN, this is my HONEST opinion and you are 100% allowed to disagree if you enjoyed this book - it just wasn't for me.

Nothing beautiful is ever made without enduring some pain first. Whether it be the making of a star or a diamond. Whether it be birth of a new life or death of a girl's innocence.

a lesser man ⋆ the weeknd

for ledger, ledger, ledger—not that there’s anything wrong with tempest, it’s just that i couldn’t for the life of me relate to her in any way shape or form, unlike, say, my best girl, echo from the hatesick diaries. ledger goddamn thorne, the man that you are.

as saffron’s reddest shade of red, red flag of a hero ever, he is the worst, the absolute worst, he is quite literally the meanest, rudest, unhinged-est, of all sak men. i mean, in all honesty, for a split second there, i was scared i wouldn’t ever take to him, but i should’ve known—he tore through the pages of my kindle and literally ate me alive.

〝Instead of breakfast and soothing your hurting cunt, I can give you a sore fucking throat. And since you're tied up, you won't be able to do anything about it. So I suggest you shut your fucking mouth, keep the talking to a minimum and be a good girl for me.〞

if a man spoke to me like this…my heart would burst, my eyes well up with tears, my knees bruise and jaw ache, i’m not sorry.

His dark-as-night eyes flicker down to my mouth.〝And you've got a smile for every occasion. A tight-lipped, sarcastic smile. An angry smile. An amused smile, usually for things that no one finds funny except you. And then are times when you smile and your eyes shine like little blue diamonds. Your cheeks go pink like cotton candy. Your pulse, that freckle over it, flutters like a hummingbird or something. Your entire face goes soft, dreamy. You light up, like a firefly. And you do it for me.〞

i can’t lie, in my eyes, tempestledger are no echoreign—i’m still in the throes and coming off of my echoreign-addled high, the hatesick diaries reigns supreme-is still my favorite of saffron a. kent’s 2023 releases—but they made the unthinkable happen, made me not only keep reading a romance with—but ultimately enjoy—the pregnancy trope. that in and of itself is something.

p.s.: saffron dipping her toes into dark romance waters… •͈ᴗ•͈?

if this is true…if she’s going there…if saffron writing dark romance is up-and-coming in her upcoming novels…i might cry…i’m trying my damndest to not get my hopes up here.

.

before reading/release:

i can’t wait for the hate-reading and trash-talking no doubt forthcoming, and from the very people who swear they’re done with saffron a. kent for good, a million times over, no less, only to shit on anew with every new release of hers. not to mention, those who can't get enough of getting off on making anyone who happens to appreciate her work feel lesser: get a grip. get a life. go away.

From the start I was shook, This is a different feeling then the Saint Marie's world... but its still very much signature Saffron too. Firstly, I applaud Saffron for venturing out to more of a darker dynamic between the main characters. There were some moments where I was like oh my gosh saffron went there. I was squealing with excitement at how unhinged Ledger was, and how Tempest didn't just roll over and take it from Ledger... when he was trying to be a total brute.

Tempest is definitely one of my favorite Saffron heroines, she's sassy, self confident but extremely loyal and caring to those in her life as well. I loved seeing her interact with the Saint Marie's girls as well as with Halo. You just know she's going to be an amazing mother. Tempest has a lot of internal struggles, leading her to believe a child is what she needs to be happy. This is a unique take on the pregnancy trope, one that I knew only Saffron could take on.

Now Ledger, honestly he stole the show for me, he is definitely saffron most unhinged hero to date. Over the top possessive, he claimed Tempest from the first moment he saw her and this man will do whatever it takes to make her his. Gosh he left my jaw on the floor so many times... but also as we get to see his thoughts I wanted to give him a hug too, he's a broken boy and Tempest is the only one who can fix him.

Overall this was a really fun and enjoyable story, it has me so excited for what's to come within the "Boys of Bardstown."

one thing saffron kent is gonna do is write the most obsessed, DELULU characters in the world and it’s a wild ride that i eat up every single time.

you have to understand these books are kiiiiinky and 10000% delusional. think jessa kane, jenika snow type k!nks with mutual stalking. i eat it up but i will give the disclaimer that these will not be for everyone!!! and this is a LONG book but it honestly flew by for me.

ALL that being said. this was hot af and crazy and i loved it!! the premise is literally that she wants a baby and is like, will you give me a baby, to her brother’s rival. CRAZY. i love it.

ledger thorne might be her most possessive, crazy hero yet and i am here for him. this one has lots of primal/br33ding and the pregnancy trope has all the possessive goodness that a gorgeous villain has.

No idea why it had to be this long and also why can't they talk normally? Ledger always cuts off whatever tempest is saying, like all her dialogues are literally "I don't... ", " What do you... ". And the plot doesn't even make any sense.

Wowwwww!!! I am so glad I read this!!!! I almost passed on it due to bad reviews, but a few highlighted passages were so intriguing I couldn’t help myself and so I walked in, expecting it would be a disaster

And I LOVED it. It wasn’t a disaster. Were there a couple of plot holes? Sure but nothing that took away from the overall story, and they were easily swallowed up by the intense emotion, the angst, the passion of the characters! We have a hero who pretends to be an uninterested douche to the heroine , who plays the jerk with her, BUT REMEMBERS EVERYTHING SHE EVER TELLS HIM.

AND. HE. STAYS. FAITHFUL!!! (I cannot believe the audacity of some reviews implying he wasn’t!)

The writing was razor sharp, the hero was cold and cruel, but secretly and utterly devoted to the heroine, the heroine was plucky, optimistic, and refused to be defeated. She was the perfect softness to his jagged hardness. I loved their relationship, even with the angst, their broken attempts at being with one another, even the misguided attempts at revenge only heightened an emotional read.

And did I mention—

A faithful and celibate hero. What’s not to swoon over?!!

This book swept me off my feet and I’m so glad I read it!

Safe. Hero is faithful and celibate to heroine after meeting her. Some unwanted OM drama, but no physical or emotional intimacy between them. Heroine is a virgin and belongs only to her hero, gives him the gift of claiming all of her firsts for himself. No cheating or sharing. HEA with epilogue

“If your love is a war, then my love is peace. If you’re what tragedies are made of, then I’m made of fairy tales. If you’re toxic, then I’m the cure. Because I’m the girl made of candies and cream, remember? And I’m the only one who can handle the boy made of thunder and thorns.”

(ARC Review)

This definitely is a Saffron A. Kent book. And if you get it, you get it.
Tempest and Ledger have history. She'd been obsessed with him ever since she first saw him years ago, and he'd broken her heart in return. Now, she’s found herself in a complicated situation and in need of unconditional love more than ever…so why not ask the guy who broke your trust and rejected your feelings to give you a baby? Only for closure purposes (or something), of course.
Tempest really intrigued me. While I’d always kind of thought about her as a badass, she’s actually the sweetest and dearest character ever, someone you can always count on to light up the mood—a lovely firefly, indeed. I mean, she’s as stubborn as expected, but she’s also a girl full of dreams, that has been through quite a lot considering her age and how protected she’d been by her brother for most of her life. And Ledger—mostly known as The Angry Thorne by people who don’t really know him, and as her Beautiful Thorne by the one girl who always saw more in him than he’d like to show—he’s something else. He’s charismatic in an unconventional way—he’s crazy, possessive and has many flaws, but the more you get to know him, the more you like and feel for him. I liked seeing both of their developments throughout the book, seeing her finding her voice and getting braver and him, by learning how to deal with his emotions.
I really enjoyed seeing Tempest and Ledger’s dynamic and how it changed, plus the nuances of their relationship as the chapters passed by. They always had an insane chemistry, that much is obvious, but getting to see them finally explore it, and how it evolved as they learned each other better was amazing.
And I may be biased when it comes to this part of the plot because I love pregnancy trope, so. I always enjoy seeing the woman connecting with the baby during the pregnancy, and I absolutely love seeing the obstinate, grumpy man becoming a softie for his baby, though he hasn't met them yet, and the whole perspective of being a parent. And it wasn’t any different with Tempest and Ledger—only they surprised me a bit, mostly Ledger, in a very positive way (and I won't go deep into it to not spoil anyone)!
And last but not least, I loved seeing Tempest's relationships with all her best friends, mostly Callie (I love their friendship so much!!). I also enjoyed a lot all the content related to Ledger’s relationship with his brothers (thank you, Pest), and his after-all-almost-civilized relationship with Reed lol. And most of all, I loved seeing Tempest’s and Ledger’s interactions and moments with baby Halo—the hint they’d make great parents was always there, you see!!
Overall, I really enjoyed the book. It’s exactly what you’d expect from a SAK’s book, and it didn’t disappoint! Now, I’m just excited and waiting for Oh You’re So Cold to drop!

Thanks to Saffron A. Kent and Love Notes PR for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Expect Ledger phantom touch to stay with you long after you read the last page of this story.

Tempest is the brave and stubborn person I expected her to be, in true Ms Kent’s style her path is meant to be bumpy and full of tears, but if something is true about this author’s female characters, it’s that they’re nothing short of determined. Tempest is no exception, despite suffering from the thorny pangs she never stops and she isn’t shy to play dirty when it comes to get things done. I liked how she maintained her softness but still forged head on to achieve her goals always keeping in mind her loved ones with unrivalled protective streak.

Ledger is such a complex and more that meet the eye character. I loved his possessive persona and his craziness, his actions may result dangerous and deranged and yet I appreciated him all the more for that. His flaws and weaknesses make him who he is. He may be reckless but his good intentions are always aimed to protect and cherish his Firefly. His OTT and questionable ways didn’t stop me from happily fall for his magnetic aura.

As usual, when it comes to Ms Kent, expect to have your feels all over the place, do not think this will be an easy ride, it cannot be when such strong emotions tormented characters are involved. I’m, once again, invested into this new world and new characters and I’m looking forward to reading more from the Bad Boys of Bardstown universe.

Breeding kink has never struck a bell, it’s one of those kinks I felt partial about not particularly keen nor annoyed. That was before Ledger… I don’t think I have ever felt so hot and bothered about a character wanting to impregnate his girl. I don’t know what happened here but I was full mode team Ledger and his obsession! And the way Tempest took it in stride. Oh wow! I was so totally sold on how these two wanted a baby. Ms Kent totally nailed it.

Told in dual POV, the narrative pace is steady but at times redundant, the repetitive questions and answers structure took away some of the angst and it felt that the action stopped or took longer than necessary to progress. The chemistry between the characters is beautifully portrayed and there is never a doubt these two belonging together.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: second chance
Angst: 😱😱😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥

I have lots of thoughts about this book. I did enjoy it, but you need to buckle up, buttercup, because You Beautiful Thing is an absolute BEAST of an angsty read, coming in at over 800 pages on my kindle, lol. The writing was beautiful, but a tad bit repetitive. But it has everything you expect when reading a Saffron Kent book. Flowery and emotional and tons of evidence she took her creative writing degree seriously (absolutely no shade there), but at the same time it managed to be darker. Ledger was definitely a bit different than her other heroes. We're used to bossy and manipulative, but there was definitely a darker edge. His rage issues. A bit of degradation. Some breeding/lactation kink. He's definitely a walking red flag and if that's not your thing, you may just want to move along. The story did meander a bit and I also felt like all of our loops weren't closed - especially with Ledger's relationship with his brothers. But I'm still happy I read it and I can't wait for the next books in the series!

I had to DNF at 50% I truly thought it would get better as I kept reading, but it did not. I felt like the beginning of the book kept going back and forth that I had no idea what previous connection they had in the past. It was extremely repetitive. Tempest felt like that friend you have who is obsessed with a guy who treats her like shit, but swears he's different. If you want a red flag man LEDGER IS IT.

WHERES THE EPILOGUE?!?!?!?! What the hell im pissed that there’s no epilogue. I loved this book, but the fact that the book just ends with no epilogue makes me mad. Not even a link for a bonus scene with a newsletter. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book by this author (and I’ve read every single book this author has written) that didn’t have an epilogue, so why didn’t this have one? We don’t get to see the babies born, she’s still only 28 weeks in the last chapter. We get no look into the future 😤This was very much a saffron Kent style book, which I love, but I know a lot of people don’t like

This would’ve been a five star if there had been an epilogue.

Web-Photo-Editor He’s the guy made of thunder and thorns. He doesn’t know what love is when all he’s ever thought about is revenge and all he’s ever known is anger. And it’s better that we stay away from each other.”

Star Rating : 4.5 / 5 Stars

Cliffhanger : None

Hero : Ledger

Heroine : Tempest

Pace of the story : Moderate

Angst Rating : 6/10

Heat Rating : 7/10

Web-Photo-Editor She gave me calm and in return, I gave her violence and pain.”

Plot Summary :
Tempest Has issues. Usually people stay away from their enemies but she might be the only one who gravitates towards him like crazy. Yes , its a "him". Ledger Thorne. Her big brother's eternal enemy. The one she should definitely stay away from. But her heart wants something else and being a romantic at heart , she is going to go after the beautiful Thorne. That is until he proves her wrong. There are no happy endings in real life , only broken hearts. It took him so less time to turn something they had into something so ugly. He broke her romantic soul.

Ledger breaking her heart was not the painful part. Him still stomping on it continuously might be. But now it is her turn to get the closure. She will use him and discard him once she is done. Only then will she get her revenger and the baby she wants. What she didn't expect was the process to be so torturing. And before she knows it , ledger might do the one thing she never thought he would be capable of again. Break her heart.

Web-Photo-Editor They call me the Angry Thorn, don’t they? Well, I’m going to show her exactly what that name means.”

Overall Opinion :
Saffron has been teasing us with Ledger and Tempest from the past few years and I must say it has been a tough journey for me lmao because I am not a patient person. I used to highlight their scenes Like crazy in the other books by this author because the chemistry and angst these 2 have is absolutely amazing!

This one is a standalone but I kid you not , saffron had me sobbing in the first 6-7 chapters. The pain , the angst was too much ughh. I expected this from these 2 because they have had their thing goping on for a few years and obviously they would have pent up issues , what i didn't expect was for it to be so painful!! Ledger and Tempest are truly saffron at her very best for me. I have highlighted so many scenes , so many quotes and even some side character scenes. Everything was amazing in this book!

There is not one time when I don't feel that 1 book for a couple by this author is ever enough. I need so much more! I can't wait for more books in this series now. And not to mention that this author has created this masterpiece when she was pregnant , she is truly magnificent !!

Dnf 70%

These main characters are fluent in both English and complete and utter nonsense. HEAVY on the nonsense. That's essentially all this book is: unintelligible yapping and awful decision-making skills.

I'm usually a big fan of Saffron's OTT writing-style and dramatic characters, but sadly, I just can't with this...

However, I am still looking forward to reading about the brothers, and I hope their books have a similar vibe to her St. Mary's rebels series,(related) because I really enjoyed those.💄💋

DNF @ 25%

This is my second book from saffron and I think it’s safe to say that her books just aren’t for me. It does pain me to say this because all of my besties love her and therefore, I wanted to love her too.

The biggest reason I dnf’d this is because I’m 25% thru and I have no idea what the plot really is. I personally need to know what the point is within 100 pages and I gave this book 200 pages to tell me.

I really did want to love this book 😭😭😭
