There are some important lessons that can be learned but most important implemented in cities across Europe. I like especially the bike, tramp and metro travelling system, green energy production and local fresh food network!

Say hello to Europe's Green Capital 2024! 5 reasons why Valencia won: 1. Natural parks - 2x natural reserves, important wetlands for biodiversity 2. Renewable energy - Massive PV installations and 300 days of sunshine / year 3. Green mobility - over 200 km of bike lanes, and a great public transportation 4. Local food production - Fresh food all year round. The city is surrounded by 120 km2 of farms 5. Access to green spaces - 90% of citizens have access to green spaces within 250 meters. Australian cities should learn from this. As the population and cities continue to grow we have the opportunity to build sustainably and with purpose, and a strategy, rather than building and construction companies and tradespeople getting rich off the back of the immigration influx and throwing up poorly built and planned buildings and communities. We need to think long term, not only on the term of the current government to get re-elected. #australia #sydney

Vilnius - European Green Capital 2025! 💚 Lithuania's capital city has earned the title of European Green Capital for 2025, surpassing Guimarães (Portugal) and Graz (Austria) in a prestigious competition hosted by the European Commission. The selection process evaluates cities across seven key areas that significantly impact the quality of life: air and water quality, waste management, the advancement of circular economies, noise reduction, the promotion of biodiversity, and resilience to climate change. This esteemed achievement as the European Green Capital will not only elevate Vilnius's status and visibility but also open doors to increased investment and EU funding. Furthermore, it will greatly benefit the meetings and events industry by attracting environmentally-conscious event organizers and enhancing the city's sustainability infrastructure. Our overarching goal is to usher in a transformative era for Vilnius, envisioning it as a fully climate-neutral metropolis by the year 2030.💚

https://lnkd.in/eqRmhiS3 It was great to have been part of this delegation to Lithuania and the progressive city of Vilnius to learn about their journey and see the reality of a modern, vibrant and decarbonised economy and community. Vilnius is one of the EU’s top 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030 program ……… and from what we could see they were well on track to achieve that goal. The mission ahead for usis to build awareness and understanding within our relatively complacent and isolated island nation of the why, what, and how to use the experience of others to accelerate our own journey to a high value, low carbon, and prosperous contemporary economy and society. A significant part of this knowledge tour was to see how the municipality of Vilnius was using data, technology, AI and innovative thinking to evolve. In particular how that translates into providing a vibrant efficient city that is liveable for residents, attractive and enabling to business, with a focus on improving the natural biodiversity, built and natural environment, health of residents and ultimately the long term sustainability of the there value proposition. The global carbon economy is fast emerging alongside instruments such as the emerging EU carbon border adjustments on imported products to ensure low carbon, sustainably produced products are valued and not disadvantaged on the basis of the cost to sustainably produce.
