GovTech Expert | Solutions Architect | Former Government CTO for Estonia | Passionate about microservices and AI
In light of recent news about my professional focus I have been asked "why" is it important to help less digitalized nations to become more digital? Would it not be better to focus on Estonia-only and/or EU? It's a fair question worthy of a fair answer. There is a unique opportunity in helping aspiring, but less digital nations and governments. I believe that the very best thing I can do is not just to help governments and organizations to start using more digital services, but to become digital in a way that they are interoperable with leading digital economies of the world. Interoperability has never been about making one country digital internally - this is a convenient by-product - true interoperability is about digital collaboration for the benefit of cooperation across borders. And technological and architectural choices - as well as responsible ways to avoid vendor locking through open source and re-using well designed building blocks - are going to be critical in this mission. Many countries that are on a road to become more digital are going to be major players in global economy of the future and helping them to become digital is a way to help them reach this potential in the first place: it is a prerequisite, not just an enabler. This will lead to digital collaboration of economies - both financial and data and service economies - which will benefit both sides, including Estonian and EU companies. There's an opportunity to build a world here that we would otherwise not see in our lifetimes, sort of like a digital time machine - this is what inspires me. #digitalgovernment #interoperability #xroad #govstack #digitalnation

🔊 Where are we with our research on digital gaps of seniors and small businesses? 🌏 First results from Lithuania We directly met small businesses companies and elderly people also in Vilnius. ✅ We gathered a very interesting piece of data: nearly half of the population possesses fundamental digital skills, with the EU average exceeding this mark (54% versus 49%). Small countries have the advantage of being flexible, adapting to change faster, and innovating more boldly. 🚀 Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia have made significant progress in digitising public sector services for citizens and businesses. However, compared to businesses, public institutions still find it challenging to keep up with the constantly increasing pace of change. Žilvinas Kazlauskas, CEO of DocLogix, firmly believes that the public sector could accelerate its progress on the digital highway by enhancing communication and sharing best practices among institutions. 💬 During the ALL DIGITAL Week 2024, we hosted a vibrant discussion with government representatives and digitalisation experts from across the Baltics. Together, they discussed how to make public services even more efficient, accessible, and citizen-centric. Key takeaways are highlighted in the articles linked in the comments. 👇
