And he wasn't the only one because I was obsessed with them. From the constant let downs and disappointment from her father, and her dream internship within close reach, Sidney King has five rules; one: no kissing. two: one night only. three: no exchanging numbers (Imao Jax was pissed about that one) four: no hockey players Jax was also pissed about that) five: no falling in love.Yet Jax wasn't deterred by Sid's rules, in fact, he had every intention of breaking them, and making her his. He wasn't your typical hockey player, which I loved. He was plagued with grief at the loss of his best friend, and gave cinnamon roll vibes- well, towards Sid, he did! And good Lord, did he had a mouth on him; honestly there's just something about a filthy mouthed hockey player that will do it for me every single time. Swipe to see the cute merch and character art of Jax and Sidney.Onto the side characters, who I also loved; they were the hilarious and I really enjoyed getting to know them in and in Rules of the Game, which takes place before Jax and Sidney met. I'm looking forward to the third book in the series; Rules of Our Own, and if the teasers in @jessawilderauthor's FB group is anything to go by, two filthy mouthed hockey players pining after one girl, and each other may very well push me over the edge! 😳I can't wait to see what else Jessa has in store for the future!Tropes- bov obsessed- college romance- friends with benefits- he falls first, and harder- hockey romanceNot a trope, but should be; he looks after her when she's sick and does her laundry!

Sidney is driven and determined to make it in Politics. Jax is a bad boy Hockey player, already drafted into the NHL. These two meet on a night out where Sid is celebrating her internship. They instantly hit it off but slowly the 5rules are revealed, the ones she has in place to protect her heart. When he is recognised and she learns he plays, she walks away. Jax has never chased a girl but theres something about Sid that draws him in. And he wants more..

‘I could never resist breaking the rules.’

Watching Jax try and convince Sid he is worth the chance is everything! Its hilarious (Jersey scene), its heartwarming. It broke me and gave me goosebumps and I think I slowly fell in love with him at the same time as Sidney! Finally his chase pulls off and she agrees to make the most of the time they have before graduation. Thats their expiration, because after that they’re each following dreams. She refuses to come second to the game, as she has done time and time again in the past, with her father. The connection these two have is beautiful, the walls they both have come down slowly (the junkyard 😩 and his best-friend), when they let each other in its magical. The spice is damn hot! They are #couplegoals. He falls first, and hard. He proves to her numerous times that he truly loves her but she is hesitant. I wanted to scream at her a lot but I understood her reasons. Jax was worth the jump though. He was stunning. The words J.Wilder wrote as him made me sob. He was def top 10 book boyfriend material. Not the ‘player’ I had expected. When he read her favourite spicy book and the text messages that followed.. damn!! No real guy will ever compare to fictional men. Ever! There is so much about this book I loved. I really hope we get a book for Alex, Mia & River (unless there is one I’ve missed 👀)

I really enjoyed the book and the relationship between main characters Jaxton Ryder and Sydney. It was cheeky and playful and you could really feel the emotions and internal conflict.

Yet again another ice hockey romance that has me hooked. It was a really cute quick read and I would definitely recommend.

My only reason for less than five stars was because unfortunately you could tell this book had been rewritten from its original publish. I think some of the scenes although cute, we’re out of order based off the information we read earlier on so it felt like the relationship had gone backwards it’s advancements and then back to the current, like the rewriting one moment they’re in one location, the next sentence they have moved location but it hadn’t been noted. Just small editing issues that made it a little disjointed.

I loved it as a whole and the friendships are amazing, outfits cute and of course joint grief sprinkled with some toxic parenting.

    ⭐️-3.5
    🌶-3

I loved the angst between Jax Sidney before they got together, I thought it was done really well and I was sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for them to get together. I loved the scene where they both met, I was literally dying at the chemistry between them and I was rooting for them to be together. The hallway scene of them running to open doors for one another was just adorable, and I loved that he was the one helping her study for the class they shared together. So often it’s always the ‘dumb jock’ that needs the help from the ‘nerdy girl’ so I absolutely loved that they were both super intelligent but it was her that needed his help. It was very refreshing, and I loved their interactions together about it, when Sidney said she wasn’t surprised like everyone else that he was smart, just impressed at his intelligence. It was a real nice touch.

Jax and Sidney were great when they got together, the spice was so hot and their relationship was super cute. I loved how much Jax wanted her, how he was always telling her and showing her that he wanted more with her. When he showed up early from spring break to surprise her in the library I SWOONED, and then I was flustered at the turn it took 🥵 so hot! Jac was head over heels in love with her, and I was dying for her to break that fifth rule for him. He was just adorable with Sidney, which I think is why the ending fell a bit flat for me.

Him forgetting to pick her up in Ottawa was a great plot device but I was left feeling like it was brushed over and played more as her insecurities rather than making him take responsibility for his actions. I wanted him to beg for her forgiveness and show her exactly what she meant to him, prove to her that he was going to leave her like that again. He didn’t try to right his wrongs, he just let her go for months before deciding that he wanted her back. All because he found out that her dad was a famous hockey coach and that was the reason she had her walls up. For me, it had gone past the point of him deserving her back.

One thing that confused me was the briefs mentions we go of the whole Mia, Alex and River thing. It was just very random and added absolutely nothing to the plot at all. We didn’t get any insight in to what went down with them so it just felt like it wasn’t necessary.

Overall, this was a really great story! Up until the end I was sure I was going to give this a 4.5 or 5 but it just felt a bit rushed and not right at the end which totally lost my interested. Otherwise, the rest of the book was super cute and I definitely recommend giving it a go if you want an easy read.

Rule Number Five is a heartfelt and emotional sports romance that beautifully explores themes of hurt, loss, and love. J. Wilder delivers an incredible enemies-to-lovers story with Jax and Sidney, two characters who are impossible not to root for.

Both Jax and Sidney have endured significant losses, shaping the walls they’ve built around their hearts. At the start of their final year of university, they’re anything but friends. However, as the story unfolds, their rivalry shifts into an unexpected friendship—one that soon becomes much more. Their chemistry is undeniable, and watching them slowly break down each other’s defenses is both captivating and deeply emotional.

The third-act breakup is particularly heartbreaking. Sidney’s pain is raw and real, and her decision to walk away from Jax mirrors the hurt she’s carried from her past. He let her down, just like her father had, and she couldn’t let history repeat itself. Their shattered hearts make this moment gut-wrenching, adding to the depth of their journey.

This book had everything I love in a romance—passion, heartbreak, and the slow-burn intensity of two people learning to trust again. I can’t wait to read the other stories in this series. If they are anything like Rule Number Five, I know I won’t be able to put them down. Such a fantastic read!

I absolutely loved reading Rule Number Five: A College Hockey Romance( Rule Breaker Series Book 1)!!!! All about Sidney King a senior poli-sci major & Jax Ryder a kinesiology major who is the star forward on the Husky Hockey team at Windsor University in Canada. Jax meets a gorgeous brunette at the bar after the team won a game. Turns out Sidney has five rules and Jax ticks off everyone of them. Read about Sidney & Jax as they traverse their last semester in college together trying to pass a course the professor insists nobody can. Lots of emotion and plenty of toe curling does occur. This was a fantastic book, that will keep you mesmerized from page one till the very end!!! Be prepared to laugh & cry over the antics!! Definite Read!!!!!

Jax Ryder, you may be a dreamy hockey player, but Syd will keep an armor for your charming ways....

What happens when a senior hockey player who's about to go Pro has an instant connection with the one girl that is not looking for anything too serious that might distract her from her ultimate goals? Sydney is focused and driven... she will wear her best armor to prevent falling for the dreamy hockey player Jax Ryder is. But what Sydney doesn't know is that her indifference and that her Five Rules for not falling in love will represent a challenge for a man like Jax Ryder, he's ALL IN and he will get Sydney even if she has no clue he's coming for her!

OhDear, this was steamy, YES, it was sexy, YES, Jax is charming, he's noble and he's very human! He won't do anything to purposely hurt Syd, however, his career might get once or twice between these two. UFF, I deeply respected Sydney and her wishes, her goals and her dreams! She reminded me of myself a bit! This couple is perfect for each other and I don't even want to start with this group of friends, I can't wait to read each of their stories!

The only thing I disliked about Sid was her love for strawberry shakes ( can't stand them) but my gosh I want to be her when I grow up. This was an absolute treat... I finished this in one sitting. Couldn't put it down... If you love cute, over the top but totally realistic love stories, this one's for you. You won't regret it. J. Wilder is awesome 👍
