Starlight Cove #5

Possessive Heart

Rate this book
I’m her brother’s best friend, and for the past ten years, I’ve also been Addison McKenzie’s dirty little secret.

My pro-hockey player lifestyle kept me from her, but I thought we had a good thing going. Burning up the sheets whenever I visited home worked well for us.

Or so I thought.

When a season-ending injury sends me back to Starlight Cove, I find out she thinks of me as nothing more than a mistake.

She’s trying her hardest to ignore my presence, but being snowed in together is making that difficult.

So is sharing a bed.

Old habits die hard, and it’s no surprise we fall right back into each other. Undeniable chemistry was never our problem, though. Making it last in the real world was.

But I’ve been in love with Addison for years. And I have no intention of giving up on us now.

Award-winning USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brighton Walsh spent nearly a decade as a professional photographer before taking her storytelling in a different direction and reconnecting with her first love: writing. When she’s not lost in her own made up worlds, she’s probably either reading or shopping—maybe even both at once. She lives in the Midwest with her real life hero of a husband, her two kids—both taller than her—and her dog who thinks she’s a queen. Her boy-filled house is the setting for dirty socks galore, frequent dance parties (okay, so it's mostly her, by herself, while her children look on in horror), and more laughter than she thought possible. Let me say that Chase's (30) mouth is goddamn dirty, wicked, and talented. The things that it can do and the words that come out of it should be banned. Gaawd, I've never been so hot and bothered by reading filthy and sexy things coming from this man. And all the highlights I have—nope, I'm having a hard time sharing them with my GR friends because they make me so on fire, but then there were sweet things too. 🥹 Aside from his dirty mouth and obviously sexy body, this guy was so freaking down bad for Addie. She's one lucky girl, that's for sure, and damn it, I'm so jealous right now. 😭

As for Addie (28), I think for the most part of this book, she was just snapping at everyone. I mean, she could benefit from anger management therapy or something. Don't get me wrong, I love feisty and spitfire heroines, but when it comes to Addie, she comes across as immature at times. Is this the reverse grumpy? Because I feel like she was mostly just being rude. When things were out of control, she would bite the head off the person in front of her. Unfortunately, those people are her brothers and Chase. She's mad for the first half of the book or rather 60%-ish, and instead of listening to Chase's explanation, she would always run away and avoid him for a few days.

I think this couple wouldn't have happened at all if it weren't for Chase's effort to pursue Addie. He was determined to finally make her his, and he was relentless in doing so. He's patient and would take all the snapping and harsh remarks from Addie, as long as he could be near her.

I have to say, I'm really amazed by him and how much he was all in with her. It was the same for Addie too; she's still very much in love with him, but she was hurt, and the media always portrays Chase as if he's a hockey player who has been around. So I partially understand the hesitation and anger, but it got too much to handle, at least for me.

Anyway, once they clear things up about what really happened, they just fall back into their routine. The only difference was that this time Chase wasn't going to settle for letting what they had be a dirty secret. He's finally ready to make it known to everyone that Addie's his and he's hers.

Overall, it was good. The tension and chemistry between the MCs were off the charts, right from the very start up until the end. The smut here was on fire! 🥵 Got me fanning myself over some scenes. But I have to say that I feel like Chase carries the weight of this story, and, tbh, my rating was solely for him. Still, this was fun, especially reading Mabel's scenes; this grandma is really something. 😂

================

Notes:

— Chase was interested in Addie even before they were teenagers, but she's two years younger than him. It was implied that when he went to college, he spent the first two years getting over her by having fun (iykyk). I didn't like this part, but I was able to get over it because it was only mentioned once.

— On Addie's high-school graduation, Chase overheard her and her friend discussing losing her v-card and saying, "just get over with it." He didn't like the idea of Addie losing it to anyone else, so he ended up taking her virginity. This was only mentioned in passing and not an actual flashback. But that's when he decided she's it for him, and since then he hasn't looked at or touched anyone else.

— I'm not sure if Addie had been with other men during her college years, because nothing was mentioned about it (but I think she was celibate too). After Chase and Addie slept for the first time, he sent her off to college the next day and told her to live her best life. He just found out that his sister has cancer, and thought getting involved with Addie was not the best course of action. So he let her go and shifted his focus to hockey and his family.

— After Addie graduated and came back to their small town, that's when their secret hookups started. But it was said that they only slept twice a year because of hockey, and this has been going on for the last five years. Until they stopped last year because of his injury.

— Addie thought that Chase had officially ended their situationship, and was mad at being left without a word. It turns out that one night, after she and her best friend, Avery, got so drunk, Avery ended up blocking Chase's number, and Addie didn't remember it. She thought, because of his lack of response, that he was done with her, and that's the reason she didn't want to do anything with him at all, and she vowed to never let him hurt again. Freaking miscommunication. 😭

— OM. When Chase was asked to join the bachelor's auction, Addie got annoyed and decided to go on a date with someone—more like a revenge date. But Chase crashed that, and the OM ended up fawning over him. 😂

Ladies and gentlemen… Chase Lockhart has entered the chat. And he isn’t messing around.

📕 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Possessive Heart by Brighton Walsh

📙 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Starlight Cove character series. Book 5.

📗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: ARC e-book on Kindle. 🆓️ on KU

📘 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Contemporary romance

📔 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: Small town, sports (hockey), second chance, he’s loved her all along, brother’s best friend, no third act breakup.

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Addison and Chance have been hooking up in secret for the past decade, but suddenly a year ago Chase went no contact. Now he’s back in Starlight Cove, rehabbing a knee injury and immediately in Addie’s orbit.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: This is one of those series I wish everyone was reading along with me. I’ve shouted it from the rooftops, and will continue to because it’s just that freaking good.

Possessive Heart is the fifth book in the series, but it can definitely be read as a standalone. And it had everything - the spice I absolutely love in this series, the hockey aspect, the banter, the angst. But man, on top of it all is Chase Lockhart.

Chase is the embodiment of “if he wanted to, he would.” Sometimes in these reviews I say I swooned… well I literally read this entire book - especially Chase’s POV - with a huge smile. I love that from legitimately the first line, there’s no question what he wants.

One more book left in Starlight Cove, and I’m holding on for dear life because I can’t bear to see it go.

𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you hate miscommunication tropes like I do, this book is not for you because OH MY GOD!!! IT WAS CRAZY!!

The only reason I gave this 3 stars is because of Chase motherflipping Lockhart!! That man is dreamy 😍

Now, I like Addison in previous books but in her own book she came off immature, childish and whiny.

Tropes:
🏒Small Town
💙Hockey Romance
🏒Second Chance
💙Brother's Best Friend
🏒 Dual POV
💙 HEA

Possessive Heart is the fifth book in the Starlight Cove series but can easily be read as a standalone. This book has everything, spice, hockey, a sassy FMC and great banter. The MMC Chase Lockhart is amazing and I absolutely the main characters in this book. I honestly could not put this book down.

Addison has a rock-hard shell but is ultimately very soft on the inside. She's strong and works so hard to prove herself, even when she doesn't have to. Her attitude and banter with Chase is sublime and I loved every minute of it.

Chase is the perfect combination of obsessed with his girl, golden retriever and dirty talker extraordinaire. Chase knows exactly what he wants and does everything he can to get it throughout the book. I loved reading the chapters in Chase's POV and watching him maneuver trying to win over Addison and dealing with his injury and what that meant for his future.

Addison and Chase are so good for each other, and it is clear that Chase knows Addison sometimes even better than she knows herself. Their sexual chemistry is off the charts and the spicy scenes do not disappoint.

I genuinely could not put this book down, so it was clearly a 5 star for me. I highly recommend this book! Especially for anyone that loves a steamy hockey romance with great and well written main characters.

Thank you to Brighton Walsh and Wildfire Marketing for an ARC in exchange for my honest review!

This was exactly what I could have wanted for Addisons story. She has so much fire in her, it takes someone as leveled headed and patient as Chase to tame her.

Watching him reinsert himself into all aspects of her life without giving her choice was EVERYTHING. He exuded so much BDE, I was down bad for him. Please at one point I told myself if she wouldn’t take him back then I would be happy to take him off her hands.

The spice HIT, that bedroom scene with the toy lives RENT free. The angst and tension did what it needed to do. I’m loving this series and I’m gonna be so sad when it’s over.

Tysm to Brighton Walsh for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

I have been eager for Addison's story since she first forced her way onto the page and it was well worth the wait.

Addison is a crunchy shell and a warm gooey inside. She's fiercely loyal, fiercely loving, and just fierce af. Chase is protective, smitten from the start, and borderline obsessed (in the best way.) Together these two have a lot of history, banter for days, enough UST to choke someone an entire town.

Plot wise, it's so good. There's a lot of sweet gestures, arguments, and open conversations. What I loved the most is that these two know each other so well, they know how to provide exactly what the other needs without asking for it. The last couple of chapters are fantastic and so satisfying.

Overall, this is exactly what I wanted for Addison and I'm so happy she got her HEA. Oh, and the set up for Levi is delicious.

**Huge thanks to Brighton for spoiling me with an early copy**

Each book in this series just keeps getting better and better! Seriously. Go read them allll now if you haven't!

Anyway back to Addison & Chase. They had me laughing with their expressions & jibes, melting with their sweet talk & sweating with Chase's mouth.

I love how Chase is in it from the beginning:
"For the past ten years, I’d lived by one mantra and one mantra only: I have a wife. I’m just not married."

“Well, you’ve got a fucking hold over me,” he said, his voice low and rough, his gaze pinning me in place as he stood too close, too close, too close. “You always have, firefly, and you always will.”

It was nice to see a softer & vulnerable Addison throughout this book, she actually nearly had me crying.

' “But don’t worry, baby. I won’t let you fall.” As we glided around, just the two of us out there in the falling snow, the stars and the twinkling string lights glittering above, I knew it was already too late. I’d fallen a long time ago.'

'My heart was inextricably linked to Chase Lockhart. I was inextricably linked to him. And no amount of time or distance would ever change that.'

And like all of Brighton's the spice is good 🔥

'A matching smile swept over my mouth. “You look drunk.” “I am drunk. On your pussy.”'

The HEA is perfect & now I'm looking forward to Levi's book, going to have to reread the entire series once it's done!

Sports romance
Brothers bestfriend
Secret relationship

Can i just start out by saying that i loved chase!!!! He did all he could to show and prove to Addison that he still loves her and never stopped! They have been “together” for the past 10 years and he sees them as arrows without paper! Awwww how stinkin cute is that and that he’s a professional hockey player and he hasn’t had other women since Addison! Man what a guy! Addison thought he forgot about her and what they had b it after finding out what truly happens with them, they can work it out and actually know he togwther! I honestly really loved this story and i could feel the emotion and love bwt the MCs!

I sadly wasn’t as obsessed with this as I wanted to be, but it was still a cute read!

Second chance always makes me sad for the time they lost together.

And this was no exception because they’d been secretly hooking up for 10 years when he’s in town, and both wanted and should’ve been together but weren’t! Her, because he’d hurt her when they first slept together and had to focus on hockey so she kept it casual in the future. And him because he thought he had to devote himself to his career.

Chase was a boy obsessed which I do like in a book. He didn’t waver on Addison but like also didn’t deliver as much as I hoped?? I think they needed things out in the open WAY sooner and also not that much happened overall. He wouldn’t have even truly gone after her if he hadn’t been hurt.

I also thought Addison and her brothers might’ve had more of a emotional break through, even if they did talk about things, it was pretty quick and not that satisfying.

I do adore the grumpy/sunshine and that Addison was the grumpy one and Chase was not bothered by it.

I just wanted more of them spending time together, actually solving their problems, and being out in the open.

One good thing that made me rejoice - Chase isn’t with any other women since he slept with Addison all those years ago! We get a throwaway line that he “wasn’t discerning” about who he slept with in high school or college (god forbid we don’t get a hint of a ho) but a win is a win, and I will take it!

So overall, it was a cute read but I think certain things could’ve been better. I am interested and scared of Levi’s story!

Great hero

Let's be real - this hero carries the love story on his back, and I'm not mad about it. I was fully prepared for this one to go awry because their backstory is so MESSY, but he counteracted that by being so freakin' SMITTEN. He says things like, "I have a wife, I'm just not married," and remains devoted even through years of being pushed away. Every time the logistics of their backstory started to distract me, he'd do something adorable or hot or swoony. It's a tense, SPICY ride to HEA, where both characters are in love from the start... and a single conversation could've saved them a decade of heartache. The hero won me over so much that I was able to push aside how perplexed their backstory made me, and I ended up sincerely enjoying the journey. So, it wasn't a perfect read, but I still had a great time.

The story follows Addison, a woman who has been sleeping with her brother's best friend in secret for the past ten years. Addison and Chase first hooked up as she was leaving for college, when his pro hockey career was just getting started. At the time, Chase couldn't commit to a real relationship, breaking Addison's heart. So she's kept things casual between them ever since, despite the fact that they both have feelings that run deeper than a hookup. After a miscommunication made them go a year without contact, Chase is back in town and recovering from a career-threatening injury. He's determined to clear the air between them while Addison is determined to keep him at arm's length, which means tensions couldn't be higher. If they can finally open up about what they want, maybe they can be more than a dirty little secret.

I had my concerns after reading the blurb, but the cover is SMOKIN' hot, so I decided to dive in anyways. Imagine my delight when I realized how much Chase is ALL in and ready to pursue something real with his girl - and, no, he hasn't been with anyone else! I loved that he had a single focus and knew exactly how to handle his woman. He considers Addison to be his wife, and he truly understands her... and loves her prickly attitude. In comparison, Addison seemed particularly "witchy," but I could empathize based on where they left things. It's super frustrating that they did not have better communication, which is what loses this a star from me. I have all sorts of questions about the logistics of their past relationship - honestly, the whole situation will leave me scratching my head if I think about it too long - but I really did enjoy the story we got. It's spice-focused and strongly relies on Chase's swoon-factor, but both of those things worked, lol. So I liked it!

Audio note: Excellent audio! It's duet-style, which is a MAJOR plus. With all of the spicy scenes, the duet-style narration cranks up the heat by several notches. I wouldn't recommend listening to this one at the office, though it's short enough to binge in a single day. I like Stella Hunter's voice, but she's played an "unlikable" heroine in pretty much everything I've listened to her in, so I do associate her voice with tough-to-love women. But that's just me! She does a great job and Addison is the right fit for that kind of character. I've only listened to J.F. Harding in one or two other books, but he does a fantastic job here. I'll seek him out in the future, his performance was very good. No complaints about the audio at all, I recommend it.

**Audio Review**
Oh my, Firefly! Possessive Heart by Brighton Walsh was a sassy, steamy small-town romance that had me blushing and swooning from start to finish. I had been anticipating Addison’s romance from the start of the Starlight Cove series, so she was worth the wait. Chase was the perfect match for her, and I loved every step of their journey to get to their long-overdue HEA.

Stella Hunter and JF Harding perform this audiobook in duet-style narration, and the duo was the perfect casting for Addison and Chase. Stella’s upbeat flirty tone gave Addison just the right amount of spitfire, grump, and passion as she attempted to resist Chase, but ultimately gave into her desires. JF’s warm raspy timbre portrayed Chase’s persistent, loyal, and dirty-talking nature brilliantly as he never gave up on the long-lasting love he held for Addison. The forbidden, secret sexual chemistry between these two was HOT, and both narrators brought the heat.

Overall, LOVED this book. If you are a fan of a small-town romance with a fiercely passionate Tiny Tornado, a hot devoted pro hockey hunk, a brother’s best friend, forced proximity, snow storms, secret spicy past, dedicated brothers, mutual masturbation, Zamboni chats, super hot steamy times, endorsement deals, misunderstandings, making Starlight Cove your home, and a HEA that will possess your heart, then you will love Addison and Chase’s story. I’m looking forward to more from Brighton Walsh.

Brighton Walsh has done it again! I really, really enjoyed this book. I like Chase as much as I like Aiden, and that is HUGE.

This is the fifth book in the Starlight Cove series, which is a series of interconnected standalones in an idyllic small town setting. Addison and Chase have a history, and when Chase comes back to town after an injury in the ice hockey rink, he and Addison finally solve their unfinished business.

These two had a complex and interesting history that tugged at my heartstrings. I had so much fun unearthing all of the details! Chase and Addison were so sweet and also so spicy. I loved finally getting in Addison's head and seeing the vulnerability behind that fierce face. Chase's sweetness made me feel all the gooey things. And the sparks! They flew.

The story was written well, as always. The pacing was perfect - nothing felt too slow or rushed. The banter was top-notch! I laughed. I teared up. I SWOONED. I blushed a lot in public.

Walsh's characters are all dynamic and endearing, and Possessive Heart was no exception. Each book in this series has been fun and somewhat light-hearted, but not lacking in complexity or depth.
The Starlight Cove series continues to be one of my favorite contemporary romance series, and I was incredibly happy to be able to read an Advanced Reader's Copy to leave this review.

I wish I could rate this more than 5 stars, I would give it infinity stars. Every time I think Brighton can’t possibly write a book I love more than the last, she surprises me. Chase and Addison’s love was everything I didn’t know I needed. This McKenzie family blows me away every time, and not a single sibling has missed. Brava, Brighton. You made me fall in love AGAIN!

I had the immense pleasure of reading AND listening to this work of art. Stella Hunter and J.F Harding in duet was such a masterpiece, that I truly don’t have appropriate words for my love of this pairing. Separately and together, these two immensely talented performers gave me the ride of my life. They had me laughing, crying, snorting, kicking my feet, and screaming at my phone. Such an incredible performance AND story!

I received an advanced copy of the ebook and audiobook, and am leaving an honest review.

With this being the 5th book in the Starlight Cove series, it's become abundantly clear that Brighton never ever fails to deliver. She gave her readers Aiden, watched them go feral, and said, "Hold my beer." *Enter Chase futher mucking Lockhart*

Addison and Chase are everything we never knew we needed. The reverse grumpy sunshine is always something to be enjoyed, and getting that look into the very grumpy pocket-sized demon that is Addison McKenzie was absolutely to die for.

I will say that my most favorite parts of this book where Addison and Avery. Their friendship will live inside my soul forever. They're hilarious, loving, and everything anyone who has a friendship like theirs adores.

We also got to peak a little more at Levi with him being Chase's best friend. And I can't wait for Levi and Harper's book! I'm so so excited to learn more about that grumpy mystery McKenzie man.

As always, read all Brighton's books. Especially these. Yes, they can be read as standalones, but 10/10 recommend reading in order.

I've been waiting to see Addison soften up. And Chase does that so good! I loved the push and pull between them because they were not where they should be because of not just hiding their relationship, but because they haven't even been speaking for a while. Chase was all in and watching him wait her out and show her how much he loved her was perfect.

I was so anxious for Chase & Addison’s story! This book was so good, had me hooked right away & I couldn’t put it down. I loved Addison & her sassy, feisty, smart mouth attitude! I enjoyed seeing her make Chase work for it, but then when she realized why she hadn’t heard anything f/him for the last year I was shocked at the reason, but I also felt really bad for Chase.
Chase definitely goes down as one of the best guys ever. He truly deserves the title. He was so sweet, & I loved that there was never anyone else for him over the years. But OMG! His sexy talk and dirty mouth were HOT! These two were off the charts hot.
This was another incredible read f/the series. It had a lot of really great lol moments, especially when it came to Mabel! Next up is Levi’s story & I can’t wait.

Everyone, everyone - gather around. I'd like to introduce you to Chase, the smoldering hot, thoughtful, beautiful, sexy, compassionate, hardworking man who is also known as my new book boyfriend. Because... *swoon*sigh ....he's the entire package.

We've known Addison for four books as the youngest of the McKenzie siblings, the only girl too. They call her the Little Dictator, but she's the one calling the shots and keeping the inn (their family legacy) together. (Albeit, all the men contribute in more ways than one to keep it afloat - let's give credit where it's deserved). But Addison is this fierce, strong, smart, beautiful and hardworking woman that we've loved from day one.

Enter Chase Lockhart: the man who's held Addison's heart since she was a teen. Her brother's best friend - did I mention he's older too? Oh, and he's a professional 6'4 ft, tatted hockey player. Go on, swoon - I'll wait. ... and while you're at it, check that cover model again and envision Brighton's words with that specimen of a man. Go on, double take it - I'm still waiting on you.

And can we just talk about the cover of this book for a hot second? *fans herself off* Good grief woman! Brighton! Brighton? My girl - you really spoil us with this one! It is not just gorgeous but oh so... panty-melting. I have book friends who lost their proverbial shhh when they saw that cover reveal.

I digress. The book, yes, your story - your words.

Listen, I've been invested in this story - in these characters since Luna busted on the scene in book #1. This series just keeps getting better and better though. Book #4 blew my socks not just off but into smithereens. Your pleasure dom, Brighton? OMFG!!! So I ended that book thinking that that would be the best one in this series because there was no way - NO WAY - you could get better than that.

But here we are.

This book? Well, in all fairness I love it so much, but for very different reasons. I love this book because of Chase's dirty mouth, his possessive growl, and his thoughtful sweetness. And his one-liners! OMG his one-liners and declarations of his feelings.... giiiiiiiiirl! I love this book because Addison finally has someone in her corner for all the right reasons - who will stand up to her brothers with her - and that the tough-as-nails girl finally gets her man. I love this book because Chase and Addie's story is the forbidden one - the secret one that we all are desperate to peek around the darkened corners and try to glimpse them and their secret rendezvous. I love this book because of that flipping tattoo!!! (You know the one). Because it is the sweetest and sexiest thing I've read so far this year... *leaves note for husband with a specific finger tattoo*

This book, this story... gah! Chase? You are my new favorite book boyfriend of the year. Addie, girl! You're my spirit animal, but your man? Ohhh, what a fine man he is, but that man... phewww. We all need us some Chase Lockhart in our lives!

“Addison McKenzie Declares Her Undying Love for Hockey Heartthrob Chase Lockhart.”
In Possessive Heart we venture back to Starlight Cove and the McKenzie family for Addison and Chase's story. A story that has been going on for the past 10 years in stolen moments during Chase's fleeting visits back home from his professional hockey career playing out based across the country in Vancouver. We pick up their story when Chase heads home to rehab his injured knee and settle his relationship with Addie after little communication from her in the past 12 months. He finds her mad as hell, determined it's all over after believing he has ghosted her the past year, and with plenty of evidence in the press and no doubt in her mind with whom he's been spending his time. And she is a right, proper b*!*h to him, spewing mean and snarky all over him, but he knows her so well, knows that level of anger proves she still cares and he takes it all in his stride, like water off a ducks back, as he sets about getting back under her skin. There are some priceless scenes as these two find their way back to one another, like where she uses the gift he gave her to torment him, only to torment herself; but it’s not until they are snowed in at Chase's new house that the truth of the depth of their relationship comes out and they get back on track. Deciding on where his future lies and what form that's going to take, and bringing their secret relationship into the open are tackled by Ms. Walsh in a realistic way that flows naturally in this story that will hook you from the start and take you on a ride as we navigate Addison's temper and the heat between these two. I love that he was all in with her right from the start and the way thinks of her as he makes his decision on the future, "I somehow had the privilege of calling this beautiful, strong, passionate, fiery, dramatic, loyal, loving, perfectly imperfect woman mine. And I sure as hell wasn’t going to leave again now that I’d gotten her." Just when you think the men in Starlight Cove couldn’t get any more swoony, Ms Walsh gives us Chase! A great read and brilliant addition to the series.

I have been waiting to read addisons story so I was beyond excited to get started reading. Addison has always been the baby of the family with 5 protective older brothers. She keeps them in line and runs the social media and the main inn for her families resort. Her brothers call her tiny D(tiny dictator) because she has to be in control of everything and loves to boss them around . But they don’t know her secret.
Chase is Addisons brother Levi’s best friend and a hockey player. when he has a season ending injury he heads home to starlight cove to recuperate Addison freaks out. When a huge storm hits  trapping them together for several days she knows she is in trouble. Keeping her self from falling in to old habits and chases bed may be harder than she realizes. They have been stealing moments to be alone for over a decade and it was never meant to be anything other than a few hours here or there when he was passing through. So why can’t she keep her mind and heart for longing for the one thing he can never give her(his heart and promises of the future)?

This is book 5 in the starlight cove series, one that has had me in its vice since i read reckless heart( my introduction to starlight cove). While I’m normally a dark dark romance girly I have a special place in my heart for small town romances. And just because this series is small town doesn’t mean the spice is lacking. Chase has a dirty mouth and is hot as sin. he also has a huge heart and his love for Addison is so overwhelming it even takes her a decade to realize it’s real. Their banter and her constant  jabs at chase made me laugh so much. I cant wait for Levi’s book but I’m also sad that this families stories are getting close to ending. And as an end note Mabel is the kind of old lady I strive to be when I grow up! She is by far the best and funniest side character.

This book is soooooo good. I have loved this whole series, but Brighton has clearly been saving the best for last. If Levi's book is better than Addison's, I might just go into a book coma, never mind a book slump! But it probably will be, so I should just be ready for it now... 😂

OK, I don't want to spoil it so I can't write too much, but this story unfolds nicely and these two are just absolutely perfect for each other. Chase is book boyfriend perfection. Can I please have a hot, alpha-roll hockey player come and take care of me while still allowing me to be my badass independent self, please and thank you!

Absolutely loved Addie, she was the best mix of girl boss and vulnerable, and it was also just a lot of fun getting her POV of her brothers' relationships and their SOs. She loved them so much and was so happy for them, but also wanted to strangle them still, and if that isn't little sister with a bunch of overprotective brothers energy then I don't know what is. The reveal of her and Chase's secret relationship was also just so on par for this family, I think everyone will love it as much as I did, especially if you've read all of the other books so far. 🤣
I really loved getting more of Addie and Avery's friendship in this, too. Avery is (rightfully) obsessed with Aiden, but that girl is ride or die for her girl Addie and will drop everything when her bestie needs her, and I just love seeing those supportive female friendships represented in a romance.

And the spice? The spice was 🥵🥵🥵
The quality, the quantity, the heat. I'm kind of glad I didn't read this one in public... 😉

The little peeks we finally got of Levi, too????? I am BEYOND excited for his book. The epilogue... The epilogue! The EPILOGUE!!!!! Cannot wait. 😬

Go read this book as soon as it's out. Seriously.

*I received an advanced copy of this book and am leaving an honest review.*

Chase Lockhart has entered the romance arena -- and you're going to want to meet him.

I love me a good Brighton Walsh read. She writes the most hunky book boyfriends, spunky heroines, and romance that practically lights up the page. Possessive Heart is no exception to the Brighton rule.

First off, I love the Starlight Cove series. It has that fun small town vibe, but Brighton Walsh makes it exciting and fun to read. Also, Mabel? She is such a hoot -- and I love seeing what she will come up with next. Her one liners are hilarious.

Let's talk Addison. I have been waiting 5 books for her to get her story -- and it sure did not disappoint. I love to say she has met her match in Chase!

Chase fills the pages with panty-melting dirty-talking, and Addison and him have so many banter! The chemistry is insane.

Definitely another winner from Brighton Walsh.

The setup for Levi's story? It is just that good, so I cannot wait.

I really enjoyed reading this book! I read the previous book in this series and I enjoyed the writing so I knew going in I would love this book too. It’s a bit of a fast paced brother’s best friend second chance romance. Super cute story and lovable characters.

I don’t normally enjoy second chance romance stories, but after reading reckless heart I was dying to learn more of Addisons story and I’m so happy she got her HEA. I loved her character so much even though at times her stubbornness frustrated me. I saw a lot of myself in her personality and the way she carried herself. MMC is such a sweetheart, I love how down to earth he was throughout. I do wish we got a bit more background on why everyone else seems to think he was a bit of a man whore. That was kinda just brushed away.

Mild miscommunication at the beginning, but that was just to explain why they went so long without talking and fit into the storyline perfectly, didn’t take away from it. I thought the pacing fit with the story as well, nothing felt super forced or like a last minute addition to just add fluff for the sake of it.

Perfect amount of spice too for the length of the book. Scenes weren’t overly detailed or drawn out, and the level of feral the characters were matched the timeline for when they last saw each other. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was a funny and lighthearted quick read I could have read in an entire day if I didn’t have work. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series. I received this book as a free ARC in exchange for my honest review.

** Review based on ALC **

Be still my heart! Addison and Chase have been hooking up on the sly for years - hiding it from her brothers, one of which is Chase's best friend - until more than a year passes without a word from him. Heartbroken, Addison throws herself into managing her family's small coastal Maine resort with her brothers and trying to forget about Chase.

When Chase returns to Starlight Cove after an injury ends his hockey season, his number one priority is to win Addison back. Can he break down her walls and make her see it's only ever been her in his heart?

I've loved Addison's little dictator ways and take-charge attitude, managing her brothers in the previous four books, so seeing Chase get under her skin or just be there for her with his little gestures and plans made my heart melt.

Stella Hunter perfectly portrayed Addison's tough, boss-lady energy and her rarely-shown vulnerability. J. F. Harding gave all of Chase's dedication to Addison and steadfast determination to get his girl. A better casting for these characters does not exist!

I'm so excited to see what Brighton has in store for Levi in his book. With the closeness of the MacKenzie’s, and the quirky little town of Starlight Cove and it’s residents, this series has quickly become a favorite!

I don’t even have words for how much I loved this book.

I read a ridiculous amount of books in a month but I knew from the first chapter this would be one of those books that stuck with me for a long time.

It is seriously so insanely good!!

The emotion is there, the spice is there, the plot is there. It’s all there and it’s perfection.

Finding a book that hits all three is hard in the romance genre but Brighton Walsh absolutely knocked it out of the park with Possessive Heart.

Chase has 100% ruined me for all other book boyfriends because he is absolutely top tier. Hockey god, tall, tattooed, with a filthy mouth that constantly says things like “my girl”? How could it possibly be better?! I’ll tell you, it can’t!

Do your self a favor and add this to your TBR right now! You deserve to get to know Chase and you definitely won’t be sorry.

A huge thank you to the author for an ARC of the book! All thoughts here are true and my own.

Every time I think I have a favorite male lead from Starlight Cove, Brighton proves me wrong. This man is obsessed with Addison with the perfect dirty talk. The spice was immaculate.

Chase is Levi’s best friend and a professional hockey player. Addison is the youngest of the 6 siblings and a perfect spitfire who can hold her own. They have had a secret relationship for 10 years where he has been obsessed with her and with him leaving she’s been unsure of their relationship. Our journey takes place as Chase is returning to Starlight Cove after a knee injury.

Brighton always keeps me on my toes with the epilogues. If I could have ended this book to go straight into the next one, I 100% would’ve.

Some of my favorite quotes:

✨ “Those noises better be for me, firefly.”

✨ “You wanna ride me again so you can take what’s yours?” He wrapped his hand around his cock and gave a slow, deliberate stroke. “Then climb on up, baby girl, and claim it.”

✨ “First of all, it doesn’t matter if I’m in Starlight Cove or Santorini. Hell, I could be on fucking Mars. Because in every city, in every state, in every country…in every fucking galaxy, I’m yours, firefly. I’ve been yours. I’ll always be yours. And no amount of distance will change that.”

- Second chance romance
- Reverse grumpy sunshine
- Brother’s best friend
- Secret tattoo
- Pro hockey player
- No third act breakup
- Fun on a Zamboni

This is the first book that I’ve read by Brighton and I absolutely loved the book. It is part of a series, but can definitely be read as a standalone. I loved Chase and his character. He was such a caring MMC and just wanted “his girl” Addison. I think there was a huge miscommunication that led up to Addison hating Chase and Chase not understanding what the problem was. Once we finally found out what had happened it all made more sense, but definitely could’ve been avoided. I loved that Chase didn’t give up and his secret tattoo *swoon* 😮‍💨 I will definitely continue to read Brighton’s books as this was a quick easy read and kept me engaged the whole time!

4⭐️! It’s great to be back at Starlight Cove again and this time we have the brother’s best friend, it has and will always be you, childhood friends to lovers, forced proximity and second chance.

The trajectory of the story is predictable but that did not take away from my enjoyment. I adore the characters and Addison, our FMC puts on a strong and tough exterior but deep down, she’s still soft girl and this is where our MMC comes in. Chase is our obsessed MMC who shows his love not only through his words but his actions. He knew exactly what Addison needs even without her asking for it. The writing also shows the readers why they belong together instead of telling which I really appreciated in a second chance romance.

There were some spicy scenes (2🌶️) and they were not cringey at all. The epilogue also set Levi’s story up well - I’m looking forward to the bext!

While this is part of a series, it can be read as a complete standalone. This story is fast paced with short chapters which is perfect for a binge.

Thank you to Brighton for sending me an ARC.
