When All is Said and Done Kindle Edition

3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars 23 ratings

A heartbreaking novel about the sacrifices we make for love.

After an unstable childhood, marriage isn’t just a promise to Dustin Carver, it’s his lifeline. He and Tegan grew up together, fell in love, and planned their perfect life. When the future they imagined gets derailed by her demanding law career, their marriage slowly slides off the rails.

Tegan can’t believe her husband took her threat of a separation seriously and walked away without a backward glance. Heartbroken and embarrassed, she covers for his absence with lies. Lies she tells herself about her career. Lies she tells her family about her marriage. And lies she’s yet to confess to her husband about a secret she kept while he was away. When Dustin finally returns, she’s running on fumes and her lies are about to be exposed.

Seven weeks in Key West licking his wounds and watching his best friend fall in love is enough to convince Dustin to come home and fight for his marriage. Saving their relationship means returning to therapy and facing a bitter truth neither wants to address. What if their childhood romance doesn’t have a happy-ever-after ending?

This emotional read told with brutal honesty begs the ultimate question for marriages far and wide. At the end of the day—at the end of our lives—what is worth fighting for, and when, if ever, should we walk away?

Honest look at the roles we each play in our relationships.

Honest look at the roles we each play in our relationships.
Wow! 🤯 This was a different read than my usual Fantasy/ Dark Romance books, and the timing is just crazy! 99.9% of the time, this book would not have been SO RELATABLE for me. It just so happened that this week came with a rough mental health spiral- which has never before affected my 15-year relationship with my husband. Unfortunately, this week, my inner dialogue was even more hurtful than normal and fed on my feelings of never being good enough. I am fortunate to have found my soulmate as a teenager, and he was able to help me work through my detrimental thoughts. 💙Normally, I would 🚫 not share something so personal. But I don't think it is a coincidence that I was chosen as an ARC reader for this book within days of experiencing something so similar to what happens with the main characters. Thankfully, the similarity ends with the destructive thoughts because my husband is so in tune with me.⚜️Both the FMC and MMC struggle with their inner thoughts and being open and honest with their partner. Holding back their truths for fear of the consequences of voicing them led to a huge rift in their marriage. This book follows their journey through trying to mend that rift. Will they succeed? Read to find out!💬Favorite Quotes:🌌There she is—my center, my orbit—in living, breathing color.🟰"You are the sum total of my life goals."🤗"Happiness is a choice. It’s about making healthy choices and feeding your soul.”✨️Thank you to Wildfire Marketing and Christy Hayes for the chance to read an ARC of When All is Said and Done!

A look at a marriage that is on the rocks. Dustin and Tegan are in crisis, but is their love sufficient? Very well written and thought provoking.
I received a gifted copy.

This follows a couple going through a rough patch in their marriage. Jobs, family obligations, misunderstandings. It was heartbreaking & frustrating at times. Ultimately I was rooting for the main characters. The extended family was frustrating but I can understand the dynamic... I'm a middle child too.
It was a good read, and kept my attention throughout. It wasn't a 5 star read for me because I felt like it drug on... without any spoilers I felt like the actual marriage problems verses how they reacted was off. I kept waiting for a big secret reveal of a problem...
Overall a good easy read.

Slow moving and character driven, this book is heartfelt and emotional. The story of a couple that has lost their way in their marriage and is in danger of losing it all, it is one that grabs the reader and doesn't let go. Don't expect any huge drama or major action, but it's not needed. This is a slow moving but powerful story about what happens when two people let their insecurities get the best of them and sometimes when they forget where their priorities lie.

Teagan and Dustin have been in love since high school but recently things have gone off the rails and they can't seem to align their goals enough to pull it back together. Unsure of whether or not their plans for the future still align or not, they start down a path to see if what they have is salvageable or if it's time to close the door on what they thought would be their "happily ever after."

Thank you o NetGalley for this ARC. I chose to read and review and the opinions contained within are my own.

While I enjoyed the story, it just lagged for me. I'm not sure if it's a me thing but I found myself bored and hoping that we would get to the point at some point.

Talk about a book that is perfectly character driven, and When All is Said and Done is it. Christy Hayes has and incredible writing talent that I honestly did not expect.

This is a marriage in crisis story of Dustin and Tegan. While we have to wait quite awhile for anything of interest in the plot to happen, what we do get is a peeling back of these characters to their core.

This story is a third person dual POV which really worked for the level of monologue that is used. We get all of the main characters thoughts, and I was there for it. Tegan is an attorney and a workaholic, while Dustin is just a 9-5 kind of guy. Tegan brings her work home, while Dustin refuses to. But after 6 years of marriage, the resentment of never being together because of Tegan's crazy work week as brought the couple to the brink of divorce.

This story is incredibly relatable. It is a story of life, love, and the sacrifice we make not only in marriage, but all relationships.

When All Is Said and Done is a beautifully written story of love, life, family, and sacrifice.

Tegan and Dustin have been together and madly in love since growing up together. Her family is full of love and light. His childhood was not. The way that her family has enveloped him as part of theirs is inspiring.

Yet seeing how their marriage had grown apart after several years bears the question of “where do we go from here?” With careers and unfulfilled dreams, they tackle the hard road that a lot of other marriages go through, and showcases the ups and downs of truly putting in the work for the ones we love.

I loved Tegan’s family dynamic in just how supportive they all were to one another, however I could have done without the snottiness of her older sister. Oye! I just wanted to reach through the pages and smack her!

Overall, this was a book that’s shows how we can cherish and love one another.

Well done Christy Hayes.
