7 of The Most Romantic Places in Mexico

Sharing is caring!

If you are on the lookout for the best places in Mexico for couples or you want to discover the most romantic places in Mexico, we’re here to help.

I have been living in Mexico for five years exploring the different Mexico beaches, romantic Mexico resorts, stunning cities, and hidden gems. This article will help you find the perfect romantic getaway in Mexico for you and your partner.

Whether it’s for your honeymoon, a babymoon, or just a romantic escape to the sun, Mexico has something that suits every budget and taste.

You can hide away in the jungles of Tulum, along the high-end luxury resorts of Playa del Carmen, eat at excellent restaurants in Mexico City, enjoy tons of privacy, or simply find a cheap local spot that allows you to be away from it altogether (the very essence of romance!).

For me, summer is all about planning that perfect couple’s getaway. It’s about booking a trip with my guy and getting away from it all.

We’re so lucky to call Mexico home and be able to choose from so many insanely beautiful destinations. It’s funny to think that we live in a country where so many people head for their honeymoons.

This is a collection of all of my favorite romantic destinations in Mexico and beautiful Mexican resorts to head to throughout the year.

Whether you’re looking for big plush rooms, private pools, amazing views, or just a place to kick back with your partner and enjoy each other’s company, you should do it in Mexico.

The Most Romantic Places in Mexico

These are some of the most stunning locations in Mexico that ooze romance. Some of them have amazingly romantic resorts in Mexico and others are easier on the budget.

Many people come to Mexico for the weather, the natural beauty, and the lower cost of a vacation than going somewhere like Florida or southern California where you might get similar weather but at a much higher price tag.

If you are looking for a romantic getaway in Mexico that doesn’t break that bank I’ve got you covered. If you want a luxury romantic resort in Mexico, we’ll cover those, too.

Something in between? Mexico has something for every romantic Mexican getaway that you can imagine.

1. The Beaches of Bacalar

Fly into Cancun and then head south. It’s about a four-hour drive, but once you get there it’ll all be worth it. The water is absolutely stunning in this little Caribbean inlet. Because it’s so far from the tourist hotspots, it’s really low-key; perfect for a romantic getaway.

The Zensus Eco Boutique Hotel is the epitome of a romantic Mexican escape. Each room is its own beautiful cabin and many of them surround the pool that is lit at night to create a romantic ambiance.

Have breakfast outside, coffees on your private balcony, and walk from the hotel right into the beautiful turquoise waters of the Bacalar Lagoon.  Book a stay at the Zensus Eco Boutique Hotel here.

2. Partying in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen is a great place if you’re looking for a romantic getaway in Mexico where you can test out tons of different restaurants and bars, as well as get around the Riviera Maya region to do a bit of exploring.

There is so much to see and do in the Yucatan and basing yourself in Playa del Carmen is practical and fun. There are also so many amazing luxury resorts in Playa del Carmen for a romantic Mexican vacation.

If you want to feel totally pampered with your spouse, perhaps somewhere where champagne is on tap and cozy beds line the soft sandy beaches, then you will find it in Playa del Carmen. See our whole guide to the best luxury resorts in Playa del Carmen.

The Royal Playa del Carmen is absolutely stunning. Every room has a private pool, it has private beach access, and the spa services are made for couples looking for a relaxing and romantic getaway.

Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera is also an incredible place worth checking out.

First of all, any hotel that starts with the word secret is somewhere that piques my interest. This hotel is much more secluded and is a little bit outside of the main town of Playa del Carmen, but the surroundings are seriously stunning.

The beach is as private as a beach in Mexico is allowed to be (all beaches in Mexico are public land). Anyone at the hotel must be over 16, so if you’re looking for an “adult” vacation, this is a great option.

Playa del Carmen is one of the best places in Mexico for couples and the Secrets Marona resort adds even more romance to this Caribbean escape.

3. Caught up in Cuixmala

Cuixmala is a hotel that is so big and beautiful it’s basically its own city. It’s been rated as one of the top 10 hotels in the world. It’s absurdly beautiful and so crazy romantic that you might never want to leave.

On one side of Cuixmala you have the mountains and volcanos and on the other side, you look straight out at the Pacific Ocean. This is a real destination hotel and everything you could possibly need is catered for.

4. Crazy for Cabo

Cabo is one of the best places in Mexico for couples. It is packed with great boutique hotels, amazing resorts, and tons of

Besides being a place for spring breakers, it’s one of the most beautiful coastlines in all of Mexico. I visited for my birthday one year and fell in love with it so much that I moved here. I have spent nearly a year exploring all of the best things to do in Cabo San Lucas and its neighboring San Jose del Cabo.

There are so many little resorts and boutique hotels along the Pacific coast that it can be hard to narrow it down to the most romantic. Allow me to assist.

The Cape is incredible. The setting along the craggy coastline is literally jaw-dropping. The beach, the seemingly endless number of pools that they have, the restaurants, the spa, the rooms. It’s all utter perfection. Book a stay at the Cape here.

The Cape has to be one of the most romantic resorts in Mexico, beaten only by the Grand Solmar. This hotel has one of the most incredible locations in all of Mexico.

Located right on the edges of Lands End, the very tip of the Baja Peninsula, you do really feel like you’re at the end of the world, in the best possible way. You will certainly spend an indulgent amount of money, but if you want to spend a few days at the most romantic resort in Mexico, this is the one.

Book some time at the spa, enjoy your private balcony looking out over the meeting point of the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of California. If you are visiting in the winter months, you will likely be able to see whales breaching right from your sea-facing room. Book a stay at the Grand Solmar here.

5. The Jungles of Jalisco

Jalisco is the home of tequila and mariachi music. Okay, that might not shout romance (until you’ve had enough tequila), there is a little getaway in this famous state that might change your mind.

There’s a tiny little coastal town in what feels like the middle of the jungle, called Yelapa. There are no roads to Yelapa. The only way to get there is to take a boat – either a water taxi or one that is organized by your hotel. It is without a doubt one of the most romantic places in Mexico.

Now picture it: a secluded beach along the Pacific Ocean, surrounded by jungle on three sides, birds chirping, the sound of waves crashing against the rocks at night. I don’t know about you, but that is literally my perfect vacation in Mexico for couples.

Hotel Verana is where I’m going to stay when I go to Yelapa. They have a bungalow called Casa Amor. What could be more romantic? I love how open it all is. It’s not utter luxury, it’s not super plush, but the openness, the connection to nature, there’s something really sensual about it all.

6. Resting up in Riviera Nayarit

Riviera Nayarit is another beautiful region along the Pacific coast near Puerto Vallarta.

The Imanta Resort is in the town of Punta Mita.

It’s secluded enough to enjoy some solitude with your beau, while still offering all of the amenities of a Mexican beach town.

Villas have their own private pools and huge sliding doors so that you can enjoy the sound of the waves and the ocean breeze without having to actually get out of bed. Book a stay at the Imanta Resort here.

Punta Mita is packed with activities like boat trips, whale watching tours, amazing scuba diving opportunities, and ease of exploring closeby towns like Sayulita, Puerto Vallarta, and the quiet beach town of San Pancho.

7. Get Cozy on the Oaxaca Coast

The beach resort of Puerto Escondido used to be as the name suggested, escondido, hidden. However, it has more recently grown into a stunning place in Mexico for couples.

It has a perfect balance of Mexican culture and food thanks to being in one of the most food-focused states in Mexico. Things aren’t as expensive or modern as they are in other beach resorts since it isn’t anywhere near as developed as places like Cancun or Cabo.

But cute boutique resorts that aren’t owned by huge conglomerate companies are cropping up and offering amazing service, beautiful rooms, incredible views, and may just be some of the most romantic hotels in Mexico.

Three of those places include:

  • Casa Kuaa: This beautiful boutique hotel is a wonderfully romantic place in Mexico to have a vacation. You are mere steps from Playa Zicatela, the largest beach in Puerto Escondido. The rooms are boho chic, comfortable, and stylish. Book a stay at Casa Kuaa here.
  • Casa Malayah: For a budget-friendly romantic getaway in Mexico, Casa Malayah has cute rooms with enormous beds and is located very close to the beach. Book a stay at Casa Malayah here.
  • Aldea Paradiso: I have saved the best for last. Aldea Paradiso is a very romantic getaway in Mexico. The hotel is brand new and has been designed with the natural surroundings in mind. You feel like you are both in a high-end resort and also relaxing in the middle of a beach hut (without the mosquitos and with air conditioning on demand). There’s a pool, hammocks, and a delicious breakfast available. Book a stay at Aldea Paradiso here.

There are literally SO MANY romantic places in Mexico, it is nearly impossible to choose just one. If you twisted my arm though, I’d head to Jalisco first. Where would you go first?
